Rating: Summary: Willow is One of the Greatest Stories Ever!!!! Review: Let me just say first off that Willow is my favorite all time movie. It's got just about everything you could ever want -- adventure, romance, good vs. evil, heroes big and small, magic and a great setting; as well as trolls, a goat who turns into a woman, and some brownies thrown in for comic relief. The mythic world of the movie is magnificent and the moral of the story -- that everyone holds the power of the universe in his/her own finger -- is really great. While is movie is not material for the Oscars or Cannes, it is definitely a wonderful story and will appeal to the wide-eyed child in everyone of us.
Rating: Summary: This is a great film and series of books! Review: Willow is a fantastic film. Great characters and very funny humor as well as a series fantasy drama. Who could forget when the large husband fo the tavern woman ask Val Killmers character: "Wanna breed?" I almost fell out of my chair I was laughing so hard. My friends and I still imitate Frangeen and Rool the brownies so well played by Kevin Pollack and ....forgot his name, sorry! What is interesting to note is that there are 4 books about Willow. One is the original book by Lucas written before the film and adds some further insite into the events of the original film. The next 3 books were written by Chris Claremont(of Marvel Comics X-Men fame) with direction by Lucas in the late 90's to 2000. This series is decidedly darker than the original movie and is NOT, repeat, not for young children!! Actually I never felt the first film was for young kids either but it is much lighter than the trilogy. Check out all 4 books if you like. I enjoyed them all even though the trilogy was shockingingly different at times it is well written.
Rating: Summary: J.R. Tolkiens the Hobbit and Lord of the Rings come to life! Review: If your a big fan of J.R. Tolkiens, (I know I am!) you must get this movie. Of course, it is not based on the books at all, but it is terribly exciting to see that world come alive. The movie will keep you entertained each second, giving the viewers many twists and turns to keep them laughing, or in suspense. Ron Howard definetly gave it his all to make this movie big, and boy, is it more than just big. Val Kilmer, (Mad Mardagon) delivers a comic relief to the film, as well do the Brownies. But many fights and close calls lead to a perfect balance of humor and action! If you ever get the chance to get Willow, GET IT! It is rare and valuable, but most importantly, its a dang good movie!
Rating: Summary: one of the best of the genre...Lucas I hope you read this! Review: ...Willow struck a great blow in showing the movie-going public that the Fantasy genre wasn't just for D&D geeks and computer nerds. I was happy to see Willow then, and I've been egerly awaiting it's arrival on DVD for YEARS. Willow shows that with great actors, a solid story, and a decent budget fantasy films can be successful and endearing. As opposed to the plethora of "b" grade fantasy movies with nobody actors and $200 budgets Willows was light-years ahead of its time (thanks Ron!).Lucas, if you read these reviews, it's time you brought another classic back to life on DVD, Indiana Jones! The Laserdisks were awesome, but I know better can be done on DVD now. So please give 10s of thousands of fans some hope! Release the Indiana Jones trilogy on DVD!
Rating: Summary: a movie that just doesn't get old! Review: A epic story of rouges, sprites, brownies, dragons and ogers. a must see for any fantasy loving freak like me.
Rating: Summary: Not just a chick movie! Review: This classic tale of good vs. evil has it all. Action, comedy, love and adventure. Like most fans of this classic tale I have waited (not too patiently!) for its release on DVD. This is a must see!
Rating: Summary: Willow: An adventure you won't forget! Review: This is one of a few action/fantasy films that comes along very rarely with a super cast, plot, location, and enough action to keep everyone entertained even after watching it many times. This is one of my families favorite films, it never gets old or boring, because of the character development, plot, special effects, and just enough humor mixed in with the action and story line to involve anyone who watches it. I would recommend this movie very highly! I cannot wait for a DVD version!
Rating: Summary: An Unapreciated Fantasy Review: Most fantasy films that are released usually aren't treated well by critics and this is one of them. Except unlike Dungeon & Dragons this one is actually good. When Willow was released people expected better from the Ron Howard/George Lucas team but how much better did they expect it to be ? Because Willow delivers fun special effects, entertaining action sequences and a fun performance by Val Kilmer. The only bad thing about it is that Val Kilmer calls Warwick Davis a "Peck" a little too many times. Plus the scene where Val and Warwick roll down a snowy hill and form a giant snow ball is a little too cartoonish. Still though Willow is as good as Fantays come. It has fire breathing dragons, fairies, an evil queen, trolls, wizards and too comical little guys called brownies.Disapointing ? I think not!
Rating: Summary: Awesome Review: Willow is one of the most amazing movies I have ever seen! Combine action, with romance, some comedy, and true fantisy and you have a movie that the whole family can enjoy. This movie/story is what I like to call the 1988-1998 Harry Potter! This movie is full of excitment, fun, and laughter and I have loved it since the first time i saw it when i was 5. I still enjoy it today and having it on DVD just makes it even better! This is certainly in my top ten movie choice and if you haven't seen it yet you are missing out!!
Rating: Summary: A movie to long for. Review: I'm 17, but when I was a little girl I watched this movie almost every single day. I'm not kidding. My parents taped it a long time ago and even though the tape is really old, I have recently enjoyed watching it once again. I cannot believe that this wonderful film is out of print. There are films much less popular than this that are still in print, so why is this film not around anymore? It is so incredibly good. The characters, the story, the setting, and the magic all steal the viewer away. The setting is a realm of fantasy, full of monsters, little people, warriors, and sorcerers. The story evolves around Willow, a little person who discovers a baby that was born to be empress of all lands and overthrow the wicked sorceress queen. Some of the great characters include Willow, played by Warwick Davis, Madmartigan played by Val Kilmer, the funny little brownies, the good sorceress, and all of the other little people. Val Kilmer really stole the show away, doing so well at acting out the personality and action of Madmartigan. Warwick Davis was very charming and magical(rumor says that he will appear in the upcoming Harry Potter movie). The brownies also added in so much humor that you just can't put this movie down. When my sister and I watched this film together a short while ago, from our very old tape, we loved seeing all of those timeless scenes, like the baby going down the stream, Val Kilmer in the cage, the two headed monster, the people turning into pigs, and so many other great things, I would prefer not to give away the plot. And the music! The score was by James Horner, whose mystical, ethereal music creates a very haunting atmosphere. Several Celtic instruments were even used in the soundtrack, such as the Celtic harp. The credits also say that Wales one of the sights for filming. It gives a very Celtic feeling to the movie. Some time ago, I found out that back in '88, this film somehow ended up on Siskel and Ebert's list of worst films of 1988. I don't know why such a disgraceful action took place because in contrary, this movie is one of the best fantasy films, not just of the 80's, but of all time. These other reviews testify of that. My family does not have a DVD player, but as soon as this movie comes out on DVD, believe me, we will get one!
