Summary: Amazing!
Review: From the moment that the film starts you know that this is going to be good, From the detaling of the hobbits feet to scenary. There are some very good actors in this film such as Elijha Wood (frodo Baggins) to sean Astin (SamWise Gamgie).
The story is very good so i recommend this to anyone of any age!

Summary: Worth the extra price for all you get
Review: I got the first DVD edition of the Fellowship, but knew I had to have this one based on all the plugs they gave for it in the first edition. Anyway, I have been very pleased with it. It includes the entire full-length director's cut which brings in nearly an hour of unseen footage, and gives the story a bit more depth than the released film version did. There is also more commentary and behind-the-scenes stuff here than on any DVD I've seen, and, not to be understated, they don't spend all of the time trying to get you to see the next movie! Given that the first edition DVD was basically just a big (albeit COOL) plug for The Two Towers, it was a relief to see that this edition just went back and showed all of the intricacies that went into making this film. If you're into Tolkien, this really is a good buy since they spend one entire disk talking about how to take Tolkien's text and turn it into the visual masterpiece that you see on screen. Can't wait for the final film, and the special edition of the Two Towers!

Summary: Actually it's 4 and a half but I erred on the generous side
Review: I actually liked the theatrical version, and even after I've read the book, still liked the first DVD when it came out. I don't agree with every addition and alteration the filmmakers made, and I still would have loved to see Tom Bombadil, but overall, this extended/platinum version answers most of the questions we asked. I especially liked the part where Galadriel gives the fellowship members gifts. Just the one I thought was sorely lacking in the original version. And Celeborn plays a larger role, like he did in the book, setting Aragorn on the right path in a subtle way only Tolkien elves could. If I have a gripe it's that when it came to the gift for Sam, the filmmakers deemed the rope more important than the box of Lothlorien soil. Now that I've seen Two Towers in the theaters, I can see that even the rope wasn't put to much use in the sequel. Certainly not as important as the part it played in the movie. The transformation of Gimli and his moments with Legolas in the Extended version were wonderful too, but again, this poses consistency problems with the sequel, where he is back to his funny but irritable self again. Mind you, this is not a criticism of the Extended version, it's just that because Peter Jackson had already finalized all three films, and since this Extended version came after, it just doesn't mesh that well with the sequel that is being shown in theaters. And the battle scenes that most critics panned became even longer. But then, this is way better, IMO. It looks better too. The Shire is gorgeous. How do I book flights there?

Summary: A masterpiece.
Review: This is simply an epic film and I cannot say enough to describe how phenomenal it is. Let me say this first, the movie is not as good as the book (they never are). With that said, however, as far as films go, this one is awesome. Peter Jackson has done an excellent job of staying true to Tolkien's text without being devoted to it to the point of ruining the transition from book to movie. Furthermore, the focus of this movie is where it should be, on Tolkien's wonderful characters. The acting is excellent and the actors cast for the parts are wonderful. Particularly oustanding to me were Sean Bean as Boromir, Ian McKellen as Gandalf, Liv Tyler as Arwen, and Elijah Wood as Frodo. The visual and graphical effects and sound are also excellent and really bring Tolkien's amazing world to life. There are just so many details in this movie that mesh perfectly to create an amazing experience. The added scenes in the Platinum Series Extended Edition add so much to this movie. Obviously there are no new plot revelations but the added and extended scenes are wonderful atmospheric touches. In some cases they provide a little more insight into the world of Lord of the Rings and in other cases add a little extra character or plot development. Despite the fact that these scenes add an extra 30 minutes to an already 3 hour movie, they are well worth it and add a lot of extra atmosphere to a film that is already a masterpiece.

Summary: Great Story - Great Movie - Great DVD!
Review: This extended version of the literary masterpiece has much more detail than the theater version. As a LONG time fan of Tolkien, I was happy with the way the film followed closely to the Book, but I am even more thrilled with this new version as it includes so many little things that made the story so interesting.
My only complaint is that there was not more! :)

Summary: ASTONISHING, WONDERFUL, SUPERB, INCREDIBLE
Review: I have no words to describe how I felt while unpacking this wonderful gift set, bought for me by my wife. It was much above my expectations. When I saw it on the stores for the first time, I knew that was a special product, but when it arrived at my hands I discovered that it's much more than I could expect. Starting by the box of the DVD that is beautifully decorated with drawings. The menus are gorgeous, with great music and good animation. Everything well organized and the scenes added or extended are marked on the scene selection menu, allowing you to see exactly what's new on this version. There are lots of audio options that go from the simpler Dolby Surround to the DTS 6.1, with options for all kinds of equipments. There are also 4 commented soundtracks, which will drive you to a deep journey on how the movie was made. The National Geographic DVD that comes with this set is also good to any fan of J. R. R. Tolkien, the book and the movie. The statues (bookends) are great with lots of details and look good in your office bookshelf. If someone loves the movie and is a bit afraid about replacing the theatrical version of the movie by this one or just purchasing it, I will say that it's a great gift to yourself and at the end you will see that this was the best DVD ever seen.

Review: The original theatrical release seemed hurried to me. This extended version adds so much depth and richness back into the story. The most wonderful scenes were "concerning hobbits" and the scene with the elves passing to the grey havens. I highly recommend this version and definitely waiting for the extended version of Two Towers...

Summary: The Fellowship of the Ring
Review: For Strider alone this movie gets five stars. The man is keener than a fox. His valor transcends that of Roland, King Charles's nephew. He cuts through the enemy with his sword like a spoon through ice cream when it is warm. The strength of his arm is beyond that of all the foes he faces combined. He does not use a shield; he charges the enemy undaunted; he does not fear death. He almost smiles when Gandolf falls from the ledge, for that did not upset him in the least. He saw heroism in the Wizard's act, thus he smiled. When Frodo fell in the tavern and lost his hold of the Ring, he started; he rose to action; he came to the Hobbit's aid. Such is the man's character. When the Elven princess said to him: I will take Frodo to saftey, not you, he did not argue. He saw in that brave woman's soul she was sincere, that she was right, that she had the faster steed. And when, near the end, his companion with the round shield fell by the arrow, he knelt before him. For, though that man betrayed him, he felt sorrow for his loss; he knew that a good man had died. Such is the man's compassion. This film I recommend.
