Summary: Come on losers!
Review: Ok, i have already written a review of this movie, but i really feel the need to at least try to talk some sense into the morons who say the movies are bad. I must admit that i like the books better, but they are still some of the best movies that exist. John Fumunda, i really think you need to just hit yourself over the head until you get some sense knocked into you. The problem is not us, or Peter Jackson, its that you are writing a review taht sounds like the person who wrote it had an IQ of -2. Sure, you can write a review with words six letters long, but you cant even recognize a quality movie when you see one. You even understand some of the meanings behind it, and some of the biger picture, and you still dont appreciate it. With all the trash thats out there these days, i cant see how you could not like the respite this gives you from the foolishness of Hollywood. Im not just talking to him, either, im talking to all of you who were too senseless to see the genius of these films. All any of you ever do is whine, so just give us a break and SHUT UP!

Summary: The Lord of the Douche Bags
Review: First of all, to all you dateless losers who watched this crap, let me say that winning awards does not mean that you are vindicated; these movies still blow. Just a bunch of bad acting, just a bunch of faires and elves and dwarfs running around killing each other over a small gold ring (And spare me the mind set from you putzes that think I don't get it, a classic struggle of good vs. evil with the circular symbol of the ring telling us that the struggle will always be, for all eternity, see, I get it). The problem is that Peter Jackson looks like a big, fat, dateless, emotinally weak moron who identifies more with make believe than he does real life; a man who can't control his own weight let alone the process with which to make a good movie. Poor J.R.R. Tolkien, he's got fans who dress up as hobits and elves to see his movies. Even in death he's got no peace. This movie is a reason NOT to get out of bed in the morning. And you people are lucky I don't have control over the A-bomb. And no, Jason Gilmore, you will not be the next Tolkien. You can't even write an interesting on-line review.

Summary: Excellent DVD set!
Review: Being a Tolkien geek who's read the books every year for over 20 years, I was thrilled, yet apprehensive, that the movies were being made. And as a Tolkien geek, I had quite a few questions after seeing FOTR and TT (why some characters' roles were changed or scenes invented). This extended edition DVD set, and the one before it, has answered all of my questions.

I didn't expect to love the movies as much as I did. I don't think any of the changes from the book were bad; I just wondered why they were made. The included commentary from Peter Jackson and the other writers/developers clarifies that there is a HUGE difference between a great book and a great movie. That is, some scenes/roles are just a big snore if you try to play it literally.

The additional scenes on the DVD are nice, but it's easy to see why they were left out for the theater release. The movie was already loooong. Another reviewer said that TTT was really not meant to stand alone as a movie (or book), and I agree. Of the three, TTT was hardest for me to sit through in the theater just because, in addition to being so long, as a stand-alone it seemed a little disjointed (as is the book). However I think the DVD extras and commentary are excellent, and smoothed out the transition between this movie and FOTR.

Also, I just like knowing how movie magic is made. And there are definitely HOURS (read: perhaps TOO many) of that to be watched in this set, if that's your thing.

Overall this DVD set is definitely worth owning, whether you liked the books and/or the movies.

Summary: Incredibly well done
Review: So, after seeing Fellowship I was somewhat afraid that TTT would not live up to the greatness of that movie. I was most pleased to discover that it was an incredible film in its own right, well, sort of...

The key is that TTT the movie, like TTT the book is really not supposed to stand alone. Lord of the Rings is NOT a trilogy. Well, at least it wasn't supposed to be. It is a single novel that was broken up for publishing reasons.

That said, it's an extremely well done PART of a movie... Again, there are a few parts I could do without - the comic relief of Gimli, Aragorn's near death experience... But I overlook those as minor annoyances.

Again, it is a true treat for fans of Tolkien and is enjoyable for those who are open to truly great fantasy and enjoy a good epic.

Summary: Which is Better- DVDs or the original?
Review: With its recent victories at the British film awards and the Oscars, 'The Return of the King' confirmed why it (and the 'Lord of the Rings' series in general) have become one of the biggest cinematic events in film history. But is it too soon to write a review? As has been seen with the film's predecessors, 'The Fellowship of the Ring' and 'The Two Towers,' recently-issued extended DVD versions are already proving cause for revisionism and reassessment.

Anyone who's not been living under a rock (or in a hobbit-hovel) for the past few months knows that the final installment of the 'Lord of the Rings trilogy' made box office history in December, taking in over $125 million in its first 5 days (US totals alone). Not only these totals but the film itself is nothing short of remarkable.

When word got out about the LOTR project in the late 90's, many diehard Tolkien fans were worried that the film adaptation would be pulled off clumsily, tastelessly, or just wrong-headedly. Yet not even staring at the endless list of credits following the movie can really give the viewer a sense of the monumentally complex achievement here. From special effects to costumes to fight scenes and, of course, spectacular natural scenery, 'The Return of the King' delivers a truly unique experience that more than lives up to the challenges set for it by fans...

Summary: The extended version fills the wholes that make no sense
Review: I was part of the masses that saw LOTR. I went to the theaters in 2001 and saw its first installment. I left thinking I had seen something different, new. I liked it. Then a year passed, I saw the 2 towers. I was completely lost. I still wasn't a fan then. When ROTK came out, I went out, rented both the first 2 flicks so I could be fresh for the third. I enjoyed myself with ROTK. Still, I wasn't a real fan then. I bought LOTR, regular version, watched it many times, started to dig it more. Then, 2 days ago, I was reading the reviews of the extended version of LOTR and TTT. I said to myself, hey, I need to see what I missed. My brother in law had the extended version from awhile back. Man, was I missing TOOOOOOO much. In LOTR you do not realize on that movie alone the importance of Aragorn till you see the extended version, nor the sacrifice the 9 members of the fellowship make by forming an alliance amongst themelves. You get to see in the EV that dwarfs and elves do not like each other at all, and can appreciate now how legolas and gimli become pals. Of lesser importance, but important nonetheless is the scene at the gate of Moria. In the theatrical release, I thought Pippin was a moron for throwing pebles into the lake. I thought, man is he annoying, even though he might seem so at times. But in the extended version you see that Gandalf has been casting spells for hours, with no luck in trying to open the door. Pippin was bored out of his mind, hence he tossed rocks into the lake. That makes more sense ! Anyways, as I have read in these reviews, I want to get the full story, cause TTT was with no doubt, missing scenes that would have made perfect sense to the plot. I just ordered TTT EV, and I hope if you hadn't , then treat yourself with the whole story. The real vision of peter jackson.
