Summary: Hold on, wait a minute!
Review: Kill Bill isn't simply a stylistic tour de force, or Tarantino's satire of B movie genre's. If you believe that, that's fine, but you're wrong. If that's true then every other film that he has touched as a writer, director, or actor falls into the same bin and I don't think this is the case. There's a personal importance that he puts in there to mix it up. Example: in the commentary for the movie "True Romance" which he wrote but didn't direct he talks about a scene that two characters have and says that it's the most 'autobiographical ' scene he has ever written even though what they talk about is completely out of context with his life. In fact, he considers it to be his most personal film even though nothing in the film remotely happened to him. Now Kill Bill has all of the trappings in the simple genre's of film that he loves, mainly exploitation pictures, B movies, and Hong Kong action movies. Most people forget that he also likes movies that make you feel something genuine. He likes filmakers like Scorsese and Hawks who run gamut from brutal truth to good comedy. I believe that Tarantino is constantly running back and forth between these two mentalities and bridges them while buying time with his screwy time structure. Kill Bill isn't simply over the top to get laughs, grimaces, or applause in exclusive ways. I believe he wants all three simultaneously. Everyone who can withstand the violence will see notice the obvious movie universe that this film has. The main character can cure her partial paralysis in 14 hrs and learn to speak fluent Japanese in a matter of minutes because she directs all of her concentration to get one toe to move and because it's not about learning the language more as learning how the people think. Right! This is ridiculous, but the film is committed to this mindset and that throws most people into thinking that it's simply a stylistic movie. Tarantino is a true postmodern filmaker who likes to truly mix things up and he does that here. To those who pay attention he also advances the story while keeping the bloodflow coming rapidly. The plot points in the story are very simple: The Bride kills former colleagues one by one, however as the plot points move he adds a large amount of backstory and because we know this is only the first half we're not sure how to take some of it. That's something else entirely. I agree with Tarantino and Miramax's decision to split it up because the film has a relentless pace, but it's not interested in simple action payoffs and wants you to be into the story. The fight scenes contain realistic rests before the combatants go at it again and these ruin the idea that the film is just action by killing momentum and putting us into the heads of the fighters. Spaghetti westerns might be able to get away with three hour running times, but with lots of flashy cutting and story fragments coming here and there it can't sustain interest without a straightahead story told straight ahead. Splitting it into two makes it as accessible as possible. Also, the fighting techniques used in the film aren't new and have been used in far worse movies like "Matrix Reloaded" and "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon" I say this because those two may have their merits, but they also took themselves too seriously and I believe that they misused the wire and digital techniques. One made them look beautiful in a puppetmaster kind of way, but useless as fight scenes and the other made them look absolutely cold and boring, while the fighting took the scenes nowhere in terms of plot. None of this is true of Kill Bill although I'm sure people will still complain. There's a lot of fighting and blood. If you're patient and attentive enough there's an engrossing story throughout, but with Tarantino you always get it in pieces. It also didn't hurt to see Michael Madsen in a role again, can't wait for Vol 2.

Summary: Outstanding Revenge Film
Review: Have just returned from my third dose of KILL BILL and it is just as good if not better than the last two showings. The Battle at the House of Blue Leaves is sheer cinamatic genius a great tribute to all those Japanese films one spent the 60's and 70's growing up with. The duel in the snow is marked with absolute quiet, stark beauty, and subtle violence that only Tarantino could capture. This one scene alone makes the film. Sure it is mind chilling violence, sure it is snatches of lives lost, but when in recent memory have you gone to a film where the audience gave it a standing ovation, and bothered to stay till the end of the credits?

Summary: Awesome movie, one long anime flick/RPG game
Review: This movie is tons of fun. Plenty of action and enough comedy to keep you content. Uma does an amazing job here and looks pretty cute too! It's great seeing a movie with swords and not so many guns once in a while, that's actually set in the present. Can't wait for vol 2!** Review ends here ** ** Small observation begins here ** This movie to me is reminiscent of an anime epic. I'd even call it a live action RPG video game. Her "death list" can't help but remind me of "bosses" that you have to fight in a video game as you "level up." It's actually not too outlandish of an idea considering that Japanimation and their RPG video games (a la Final Fantasy) are extremely similar in their form and function. Very interesting and new style of movie I'd certainly like to see more of.

Review: I have not walked out on a movie in many years. But 20 minutes into this movie I left. I do not believe in censorship but this was pure crap and a waste of time to show. I would like to meet the people that gave this a 4 or 5 star. There are so many good movies out there that get left behind - and this is not one of them!

Summary: Quentin in all his glory
Review: This is the best movie I have seen this year. Do not listen to ignorant individuals who were dying expecting Pulp Fiction 2. Kill Bill is Quentin's 4th movie and it really is a piece of work. I can kind of understand why he cut it into 2 movies. Both volumes as one movie would not work too well for people who don't have any patience and since it is the majority of the population, it's totally understandable. This movie is so violent and the violence in mostly onscreen unlike Reservoir Dogs and Pulp Fiction. Bottom line is that if you are expecting a Reservoir Dogs, Pulp Fiction or Jackie Brown, you won't like this movie. This is something totally different for Tarantino. Uma Played her role beautifully in this movie. My only dissapontment is that there wasn't a lot of Michael Madsen ( Mr. Blonde from Reservoir) but thats what the next movie is for hehe. No regrets man

Review: Quentan Tarantino's "Kill Bill" is hard to put in any particular genre of film. It's of the Tarantino genre of film I guess. It's a masterpiece in any case. Everything done in this film is done intentionally. Mr. Tarantino has created an artistic violent film that most of his real fans will appreaciate. The violence is approached with a percentage of humor. What I mean is when a head is chopped off or a limb, it isn't done in a realistic style like Tim Burton's "Sleepy Hollow" or Coppola's "Bram Stoker's Dracula" for instance. It's done in a Mortal Kombat video game buckets of blood like way. Which adds humor to the macabre. As soon as I saw one of the very first shots of the film I knew I was going to have a great time with this movie, ..The scene involved Uma Thurman & Vivica A. Fox in the best girlfight of the decade. Well the best until the next girlfight scene short after that one, it comes much later with the 17 year old bodyguard of Lucy Liu's character. Notice the name of the cereal that Vivica A. Fox fixes for her daughter, it's comes with a surprise. Look for "Kill Bill Vol. 2" in APRIL '04.

Summary: Kill-Bill: Possibly Tarantino's finest yet??
Review: There is a real possibility of this movie being Tarantino's finest work as a director. His other 3 movies of course are all priceless, but this truely a work of art. Volume II's reputaion proceeds it, but if your a true fan of Tarantino's work, then you wouldn't have cared watching the whole film in its 4 hour intirety. And the great thing is, you actually see everything that would be cut in other movies, you see the violence... You see Lucy Liu cut off a guys head, you see Uma Thurman cut off arms,legs,feet,hands and heads. She also cuts a guy down the middle (through his head) which is very spectacular. If you've seen the trailer but not the first volume yet, then the guy jumping on the sword and 36o kicking Uma in the face isn't until Volume II, but hey, it'll be worth the wait. I attended the Premier in London and it was truley amazing, so i saw it again at a cinema nearer home, and it was amazing again. Definitly worth seeing, htis film is a legend, and should be awarded oscars (although it properly won't because the american film associastion is really annoying and will probably give it to something rubbish like "Chicago II" which hasn't be made but is a good example) The gore is vabulous, Lucy's death is brilliant, (i won't tell you how...) and so is her life, which is potrayed in anime (the japenese cartoon) and is truley great. have fun...Tarantino, your a genius, your best work yet.

Summary: Excellent flick
Review: Most other reviews have a plot summary, so this is simply my opinion. This was my first Tarantino film and I really enjoyed it - aside from the excess blood, which I guess was integral to the revenge plot. The fight scenes were phenomenally choreographed and the anime flashback scenes were top-notch. Along with the superb casting, visionary direction and a marvelous soundtrack - this film has it all! Obviously there will be a sequel(s?) and I can't wait to see the rest.

Review: Amazon only allows me to give whole number reviews, but this movie is a three and a half stars out of five. To begin, DO NOT SEE THIS MOVIE IF YOU HAVE A WEAK STOMACH, blood, guts, gore, and violence is not a lack in the forth film by Oscar winner Quentin Tarantino. This is not "Pulp Fiction", nor is it "Jackie Brown", the story is not that complex, it is simply a story of revenge, but unlike other movies dealing with revenge this one was done alittle bit better. Thurman does an outstanding job, which could quite possibly get her an Oscar nomination, or at least a Golden Globe nom. Blood was defiantly not a shortage of on the set, the opening scene alone a couple of people got up and exited the theater after Uma gets shot in the head, apart from that at most there might be three minutes of non-violence between the begining and the end, but even with all of the violence the movie is not that bad. Tarantino, as in all of his movies still has that 1970s in mind when it has to do with the music and basically the entire atmosphere of the film. The downfall of the film came when the more minor characters were given such great character development, when some of the main characters seemed alittle flat. Overall the film is a good example of an action, drama, comedy, Tarantinoesc film that is good fun for anyone who likes action to see.

Summary: blows up REAL good!
Review: Loved it! Some references not mentioned: Sonny Chiba made to look like Toshiro Mifune; Theme from the TV series "the Green Hornet" featured after mentioning the "guy with the Kato mask"; and Uma defeating Gogo Yubari with a stick reflecting Mifune as
samurai legend Miyamoto Musashi defeating his opponent with an oar. With all the comments on the bloody action scenes it still did not rank with the absurd quantities of blood pumped out in the Japanese flick "Samurai Assassin" (Lone Wolf and Cub in Japan). Quentin is to be praised for his restraint, don't you agree? Tarantino's love of the genre was certainly evident in this cool movie.
