Summary: Good Movie, but More of the Same
Review: 'The Bourne Supremacy' follows the life of Jason Bourne after the events of the preceeding movie 'The Bourne Identity.' Jason Bourne, played by Matt Damon, and his girlfriend Marie, played by Franka Potente, have moved around the world to keep away from Jason's past. They've run to India, and the past they tried so hard to avoid has caught up with them. Suddenly, Jason is thrown back into the life of a covert operative that he has tried so desperately to get away from....

This movie is good but flawed. Amongst its strengths are a strong ensemble and good acting. Matt Damon has nailed this character. Bourne doesn't look like a guy capable of espionage or assasination, and that is partly due to Damon's portrayal. He pulls it off beautifully. Brian Cox, Julia Stiles, and Joan Allen also contribute admirable performances to the movie.

Another strength are the tactics employed by Bourne. The character is built up to be a resourceful assasination, and this portrayal is made convincing by having Bourne do clever and resourceful things. For instance, watch how he tracks down Joan Allen's character, or how he baits the CIA into putting their men right where he wants them.

Unfortunately, the movie has its pitfalls. First off, 'Supremacy' feels almost more like a remake of 'Identity' than it does its own film. The amnesia subplot predominates this movie in the same exact way that it did the first. Jason knows he did something, is not sure what, but it has covert operatives chasing him. Sound familiar? It should if you have seen the first film.

Second, the timing of the plot. The first half of the movie rolls along nicely. The plot develops and when it is not developing, there are well placed action scenes demonstrating Jason's combat prowess and his resourcefulness. However, after that, the second half of the movie is really just Jason marching towards the conclusion, which would be fine if it weren't for the third problem...

The third problem is the much maligned camera work. The action scenes in this movie were really pretty good. At least the ones that were coherently filmed were. It seems the the film was shot using hand held cameras that were operated by camera men running to keep up with the actors. Frequently, the action becomes indistinguishable. The point is, the action scenes were good enough that they didn't need this primitive filming style to make them more exciting.

All in all its a decent film. I liked some of the action better than in the first film. However, the story of the first film was better. The DVD has plenty of bonus features for the enthusiast. I'd recommend this movie to fans of the first film, and as a rental to those that like spy thrillers and action movies. I'll catch it again if it comes on cable, but I'm not adding it to my collection.

Summary: Are we PG-13 kids watching this disaster?
Review: A great idea (see "The Bourne Indentity"), a great book series, and a great actor all should add to a great movie. Or not? Well, not really. We forgot the PG-13 rating.

I am willing to forgive the cameraman who suffers from compulsive Parkingson's disease, and the shoddy direction by Paul Greengrass.

I will not forgive the PG-13 rating. Are we little toddlers who need parental guidance for everything? We have entered the age of fear. Everybody is afraid. Nobody dares to say anything for fear of... who knows? Fear of retribution? Fear of the government coming at us with the thought police to punish offenders for the sin of having free and independent minds?

These cowardly movie companies make me sick. If they release a movie for general audiences, okay, rated commercially with a PG-13. If they release a DVD, please make an R rated edition for adults.

They killed the plot, the character and everything else. Why didn't they hire Doug Liman to direct this movie? (See "The Bourne Identity"). At least it would have been much better. But, oh no, they know sooo much and are sooo wise. Well, they suck.

This movie sucks, too, and so will the third installment if they don't have the guts to film it the way it should be filmed.

Minus stars for a cowardly PG-13 rating, bad direction, bad camera techniques and script adaptation.

One star for Matt Damon who is great as always.

Summary: Picky, Picky... If you are, then don't see the sequel.
Review: As good as the first movie, simple as that and maybe even better. Great acting (like in most of his films) by Matt Damon and great moves as Bourne in this one. Not the kind of movie to pick-apart, just sit back and enjoy the ride. Whew! And isn't that why we go to movies, escape and to be someone we can't. Well, that's my preference anyway. Enjoy the ride!

Summary: Hey Jason Greeno
Review: Don't you think your being a little too harsh, and whats your problem with dentists. If you have not seen the Bourne Identity or read the books it might be a little confusing. All in all it's your typical spy/espionage flick. If your not into the genre you won't like the film, but if your a James Bond fan you should enjoy this. I love the idea of traveling from country to country it gives the movie an international feel. Bottom line is I enjoyed this movie.

Summary: Like the original but this one is so much better
Review: Great movie with great action. Just watched it today. And it was not slow paced like bourne idenity was but it was fast paced and it was good. Also Franka Potente and Julia Stiles are hot.

Summary: I'd rather be at the dentist
Review: I snagged a Sneak Peek movie pass from a coworker yesterday to check out this film. Universal would not allow the name to get out. It was a huge secret. We were not sure if we would be seeing "Two Brothers", "Spider-Man 2" or something else. I finally learned my fate when a rep. announced it as the lights dimmed. Gosh, how I wish I got out then.

Long story short, I have not seen the first film. Hence, I really had no idea what was going on. It's one of those movies that keeps moving from country to country like an online Lonely Planet guide. The name of the place shoots up on the screen so that we can read it. They do this because you can't tell from the script where you are. It's all convoluted and dry. Damon has never done worse work. He looks like a robot from the new Will Smith movie than he does a real man most of the time. There is an emotional part near the beginning that was nice, but then it is all procedural FBI/police type stuff.

If you have a calendar of Matt staring down at you right now, you should go and see this. If you will be starring in a new episode of a one-season cop show, go.

If you are hoping for a coherent, fun summer flick, look elsewhere.

Summary: Suspense in Spades
Review: If it's action and suspense that you want, you'll get both in spades, with a "knock your socks off" cast and script. The car chase near the end of the movie, while gripping and exciting to watch, defies plausibility but doesn't detract from the suspense or the quality of the movie. Well worth watching for action aficionados and those who enjoy thrillers. Overall, 4+ stars.

Summary: Bourne reigns supreme
Review: In "The Bourne Supremacy" Jason Bourne (Matt Damon) is brought back into the spy world because of the death of his girl friend (Franka Potente) and because the CIA is after him; they think he killed two agents in Berlin. The movie is basicly a bunch of chases mostly through Berlin and Moscow, but they are done exceptionally well. The camera work is a lot of hand held shots; the camera never stops moving, even if the characters do. Director Paul Greengrass keeps things moving at seemingly hyper speed with the MTV like editing cuts. There are also a lot of very close shots of Jason's face, especially when he's in the cars. The locations are fantastic, very ethnic and authentic, especially in Boa, India. The acting is top notch; Potente and Julia Stiles dose well with their limited roles. Joan Allen and Brian Cox also butt heads with the best of them (though after watching "Troy", Cox seemed subdued). But the star of the movie is Matt Damon. He plays Bourne as a reluctent warrior, and Damon's boyish face dose the part right. Bourne is not James Bond; Bourne is not comfortable with his status as a hero. If there is one problem, it is that Jason dosn't say much. In "The Bourne Idnetity" he had Marie to talk to, NOw she is gone and we must more or less wonder what Jason is thinking. The extras on the DVD are standard, making of documentry, how the stunts worked, ect. I was a little disappointed with the director's commentery, Greengrass was a lot quieter thn I expected. Oh well.

Summary: The performances are strong
Review: Matt Damon pretty much carries this sequal where his charecter comes closer to restoring his memory of who he realy is. Julia Styles also shines in her role as someone who is still uncertain if she is a friend or for of Jason Bourne. It's more complex then you may think.

Rating: 3 stars
Summary: Not the Bourne Identity, but watchable, mostly
Review: The car chase is one of the most inexplicable scenes I have seen on film. What is going on? Is it exciting? Darned if I know. It was just a lot of quick cuts. The director needed to sit and watch Ronin again---driving against traffic is impressive visually, but only if you can actually see what's going on!

Okay, rant over. The Bourne Identity is one of the best, intelligent action movies of recent years. This sequel is watchable, Matt Damon does a quite reasonable job, but a pale shadow of the original.
