Summary: It's every woman's role model.
Review: I grew up on this movie. I always wanted to learn swordsmanship so I could fight like Sonja. Sonja is strong and encourages women to be part of the tough crowd. There are no damsels in distress in this movie! GO GIRL!

Summary: So bad it is good
Review: I just got finished watching this movie on the high definition HBO channel. I'd seen it before when I was much younger and like it then. Essentially part three of the Conan movies and directed by the same guy who did the second Conan movie. The Schwarzenegger character in this one isn't Conan though, he's some other barbarian who tells Red Sonja early in the movie "Danger is my business." This movie is so campy, so woodenly acted, and so fantasy movie cliche ridden it's hilarious. I'm a little torn. As an example of the art form, this is a dreadfully bad movie and worth one star. As Saturday morning entertainment, along the lines of watching cartoons, the movie is brilliant and worth five stars. The scenery in some of the outdoor shots can be pretty spectacular, especially in the scene where the gang was staring across a chasm to the place where the sun doesn't shine (I think that was the name of the evil queen's land). The special effects are cheesy. The dialog is...uh, well Arnold and Brigitte were the lead characters. The annoying brat should have fallen into the boiling mud early on. The queen's pet spider was a cute touch. If this ever does come out on DVD I'm getting it. It's both one of the funniest and worst movies ever made. Take some pain medication before watching though because this one can be painful to sit through.

Summary: A woman in her beauty is not enough
Review: I only rate this film 2 stars for the following: - films about fantasy ages are rare - Red Sonja is a knockout of a woman (hail Brigitte)

This film has a very poor music score, bery bad conducted artists and poorly explored script. They tryed to make another Conan and ended up with a low level movie. Its entertaining sure, the landscapes are beautifull and the image is very good, but this film is poor. Arnold and Brigitte, you can do much better, you've done it already. I only advise this film to fantasy film fanatics like me, but only a child can't see the poor quality of this movie. Anyway I will sure buy it when I have a DVD because as I've said before, I like this type of movies and this one leaves me with that feeling that if the director had put more attention into it this could be a classic. Unfortunately it isn't.

Summary: Pathetic
Review: I saw this when it came out originally, and has been a very, very long time since then. Not remembering, I purchased this after getting back into the "Conan" series; what a mistake! This was so lame I didn't even make it through the finish, turned it off. The production level is that of "Ulyses"(sp?), back in the 50's, and the acting level is below rating. I'd put money on it that Swartznigger regrets this one....he is the best of it, and he's hampered. if you're into below "B" movies, this may be for you!

Review: I think this movie is OK, but the actors have pretty funny accents

Summary: Ok for kids, adults... keep away.
Review: I used to love this movie when I was a kid! Yes, the acting's dreadful, but it had a wonderful score by Ennio Morricone, good cinematography & larger than life sets. A classic story of Sword-and-Sorcery. Sanadahl Bergman is fun as the evil Queen Gedren.

Summary: An Eighties Classic
Review: I was raised on Conan and Red Sonja, so I can't help but highly recommend these movies. No, the acting isn't great, and there are homosexual connotations that I just didn't catch when I was six, but these movies have stood the test of time-- at least in my estimation. Wonderful adventures with unforgetable characters, and the swords are just darn cool.

Summary: What were thinking and not thinking
Review: I've always been a fan of Robert Howard. I've enjoyed the Conan books that I've read and I love the first Conan movie. I can't figure out though is why Hollywood has butchered all his other characters in lame movies like Conan the Destroyer, Kull the Conqueror and Red Sonja.

Red Sonja(Nielson) is a warrior. Her family was murdered in front of her by the evil Queen Gedren(Bergman). She escaped from the fiery death that Gedren put her to, and now is training for her revenge against her.

Kalidor(Schwarzenegger) is a warrior in search of Sonja. While he was on his way to the great temple to watch the Great Talisman be destroyed he came upon Sonja's dying sister. He gets Sonja and takes her to her dying sibling. While the two sisters talk Sonja and Kalidor learn that Gedren has stolen the great talisman of power that could destroy the world. They have 13 days to destroy it, before it destroys them. The kicker to it all is that it can only be touched by woman.

Along the way they'll pick up a brat prince(Reyes) and his bumbling aid(Smith). The party must hurry to find the talisman and stop Gedren before it is all to late.

Brigette Nielson fills the role out physically, but that's about it. This woman acting is like watching paint dry. She's dull and boring. If it weren't for the fact she filled her costume out nicely, you'd probaly find yourself not wanting to watch it at all. The same thing can be said about Sandahl Bergman. She's a real stiff and is terrible too. It's not saying much when Arnold gives maybe the best acting performance of the film.

I did give the movie three stars though, and that would be for the pretty good sword play. Arnold and Brigette do plenty of it and are both pretty good at it. This movie followed the Conan movies so we knew Arnold could play the part. Brigette holds her own. The swordplay is more of that in the second Conan film. It's not all that bloody. This is one of the few films that I've ever seen where I wish they would've bloodied it up more and possibly given it an R rating.

Ennio Morricone has written a beautiful score for the movie. In ways it's a shame because the movie is so bad. It has a quick catchy melody. This guy really is underrated as far as Hollywood composers. If your a fan of him, you might want to check the movie out.

When it comes down to it, this really is a pretty bad movie. The acting is horrible, and the swordplay isn't good enough to make up for it. The movie is relatively short, and quite frankly the movie isn't enough. They should have made it a little longer, gotten rid of the brat kid, and made it more violent to match the world they live in. Richard Fleischer is the easy target for this bad movie. I don't want to knock a guy for trying to make a family film, but don't do it and the expense of Robert Howards character.

This one is definetly a rental. If you loved the second Conan film, you might want to buy it. If your a hardcore fan of the actors in the film, you might want to check it out as well. I would definetly rent or borrow this one, before you buy it.

Summary: Great Fantasy Film
Review: If you like ancient world action flicks (ex. Conan) you'll love Red Sonja.

Red Sonja is one of the best fantasy films. Red Sonja (Brigitte Nielsen) is beautiful. You gotta love Schwarzenegger. This film had excellent sword fighting (It just wants to make you take fencing lessons). The background settings and art are very interesting such as the skeleton bridge. The little bratty prince and his servant are pretty funny. I never get tired of watching this flick. The action sequences will always stay in your mind.

If you wanna relax and watch a good old adventure flick then watch Red Sonja.

Summary: Old but but better than Scorpion King
Review: If you like swords fights, Muscles, and warriors at it's best then you'll like to watch this film.

If you're looking for more "acting kind of stuff" you can watch Bridget Jones Diary.

Arnold can look like a robot or a Kindergarde teacher or a man from 2000 years if he wanted to, we all know that. this movie is from 1985 so it may not have the same effects that we see these days but It was meant to be an old flick anyway, IN the dvd version the sound It's terrific, a must have specially if you have kids or If you're an Arnold fan!!!
the story is plain and simple but everyhting looks real and Arnold is in his own surroundigns unlike the Rock who was more like an showing off in Scorpion King.
Everything looks real(from that era) if you get in to the story.
Again you got to love those swords man they are real Briggitte did a good work also!!!
