Summary: MEANINGLESS FUN TRUE TO COMIC BOOK
Review: SPIDER-MAN raked in another ... million in just the first three days of it's home video release. That brings the world-wide gross to about a billion bucks. An off the chart figure. So what is it about this story that connected with a global audience on such a stratospheric level? Was it the marketing, the name recognition from the seemingly endless series of comic book incarnations or something else?

If the film does not hold up as well as one might guess on repeated viewings, the metaphors for the frustrations and fantasies of male puberty come though even clearer. Perhaps more than anything, this film is a romantic rite of passage; almost tribal in its subtext (the ritual spider bite and the shamanistic hallucinations of flying and fighting demons) but in a post-modern garb.

But does it all add up to anything? Not really. Perfectly directed by super-visualist Sam Raimi (a master of the floating camera), and with nice, understated, naturalistic performances by Tobey Maguire and Kirsten Dunst. These two actors exude a rare and apparently authentic chemistry in their scenes together. Inexplicably, Maguire is missing on the entertaining audio commentary with Raimi and Dunst. Interesting but rather ordinary making-of and behind-the-scenes extras on the second disc.

Summary: Still My All Time Favorite Super Hero
Review: Spider-Man starring Tobey Maguire is definitely one of my all-time favorite superhero movies. I wasn't certain what to expect of the film, particularly being a huge Spider-Man fanatic as a kid who was hooked on the cartoon. This film pleasantly met all of my expectations as a Spider-Man fan and as a novelist and screenwriter. It is a wonderful story about young Peter Parker who is bitten by a high powered genetically enhanced spider, which transforms him from a nerd into the crime fighting, web spinning Spider-Man. The main storyline is accompanied by a touching subplot that involves the childhood love of Peter's heart, Mary Jane(MJ) played by Kirsten Dunst. As these two storylines interweave, Peter expresses his long overdue affection for MJ in dramatic fashion by springing to her rescue as the high flying superhero. As in all superhero stories, it would not be a good story without a formidable adversary. No one could have played the role of the "Green Goblin" better than Willem Dafoe, who gave an absolutely superb performance. This film pulls the viewer into a nail-biting conclusion as the Goblin and Spider-Man clash in the finale, bringing the audience to a breathtaking and satisfying climax. I recommend this feature to all Spider-Man fans and to those who enjoy a good story. Kudos!

Summary: GRRREEEEEAAAAATTTTT MOVIE
Review: This was a greeat movie, the ending was sad but it shows you something important about Spider-Man, that he doesnt want the people he loves to get hurt because he is Spider Man, if your Spider Mans wife or girlfriend then Dr Octopus or Venom or the Hobgoblon might come looking for you. The webbing thing was innacurate, the webbing comes out of Spider Mans web shooters not his wrists like the movie has it, and uncle Ben dies when his house gets robbed, he doesnt get shot on a street. Its a really great movie, be prepared for 1 or 2 kinda silly things (every movie has 1 or 2 silly things) and the Green Goblins costume looks a little cartoonish, and be prepared for a depressing ending (but keep in mind that Spider Man eventually marries Mary Jane) get the movie and cherish it, especially if your a Spider Man fan.

Summary: The best movie of 2002!
Review: "Spider-Man" is the best movie of 2002. Tobey Maguire stars as Peter Parker who lives with his Aunt May (Rosemary Harris) and Uncle Ben (Cliff Robertson) from the death of his parents. He gets bitten by a radioactive spider and when he has spider abilities, he becomes Spider-Man. Kirsten Dunst is amazing in her role as Mary Jane Watson, Peter's beautiful classmate. James Franco is great playing Harry Osborn, Peter's best friend. And Willem Dafoe is good playing Norman Osborn, Harry's dad. The picture and sound quality from the DVD are good. The extras are superb including the "HBO Making of Spider-Man" and the commentary. An excellent film.

Summary: Not so special
Review: I got this thinking it would be full of behind the scene content. The movie is great, minus showing how he created his final costume. But the other DVD is just a waste of time. I would have like to have heard what the actors were saying in the clothing test scenes. Also needed more behind the scene stuff. Very laking of anything beyond the movie.

Summary: The Hottest Summer Movie of 2002
Review: This movie was by far the best summer movie of 2002. The cast of this movie was outstanding & the special effects were terrific, & the plot was the best material I had ever seen. Get this widescreen version of the movie & watch the bonus material & pay close attention to see how they make these characters come alive on the silver screen.

Summary: Sensational comic come to life!!!!
Review: A trusted friend had recommended this movie with two reservations
1. "Kirsten Dunst..she was okay..pretty enough but not how I thought the Spiderman's herione should look."
and 2. "too many computerized special effects"

Wrong on both counts. Kirsten Dunst glowed and was the perfect girl next door from a dysfunctional family. She's beautiful.
And the effects...my god, they were fantastic. I never once sat there thinking..oh, there they go and again -- Tobey McGuire couldn't do that...which leads me to my next compliment....Talk about perfect casting...I'm surprised Hollywood didn't cast a Backstreet Boy! McGuire was believable before and after his transformation.
William Dafoe puts the StarWars IV's villain and especially the 4th Batman's villains to shame. He chewed up the scenary and spewed out a believable character.
This is a movie for the whole family!!! If only the world had heros like Spiderman!!

Summary: Widescreen???
Review: Super DVD, but not widescreen. Outer box and DVD both marked "Widescreen" edition, but to my dismay, the DVD was Full Screen. Returned it to a different location and second copy, though marked widescreen, was also full screen. Is this a screwup and will the studio make it right???

Summary: Wins prize for minimal plot
Review: I preordered this video because everyone was raving about it for months. I still can't believe how devoid of a plot, the shallowness of the characters and this untiring Yo-Yo "webbing" all over the city that quickly grew old. I'ld rather read the comic book!!!!!
