Summary: Awesome Graphics!
Review: I almost didn't watch this movie--just not too big on Science Fiction types. However, I'm glad I decided to bring it home for the night.

The story line is ok. Loner boy gets magic power, loses his uncle, and finds the ones he loves threatened by the mysterious Green Goblin.

The best part of the movie are the incredible jump scenes where Spiderman hurtles himself through NYC. The fight scenes are also pretty neat...kind of reminiscent of The Matrix.

If you want a movie that you watch strictly for the filming, this is probably it.

Summary: Top-notch comic adaptation
Review: This is the movie I've been waiting for since I was 9 years old! Director Sam Raimi and screenwriter David Koepp have gotten it just right. The story of high school nerd Peter Parker's (Toby Maguire) transformation into the powerful, crime-fighting Spider-Man is light, humorous, and filled with action and thrills. The major characters from the comic are brought to life by the fine cast. I hope we get to see more of JK Simmons' J Jonah Jameson next time around.

Unlike many, I thought that the CGI effects worked well. The one disappointment in this film--and it was a big one--was the design of the Green Goblin's costume. Why did they put that blank Power Rangers-type helmet on him when they were had such a fine actor playing the role? The Goblin's mask should have been malleable, just as it is in the comics, so that we could have seen Willem Dafoe's acting. As he demonstrated in the laboratory scene, he is capable of projecting frightening rage.

Summary: Damn Good Movie!
Review: ...As soon as it came out for dvd I ran out and bought it. Anyone who's a fan of the comic books or has seen the cartoon will like this movie. It stays on track with the comics really well and the acting is superb. Great special effects and storyline, overall just a badass movie! Highly Recommended!!

Summary: Love Story in Disguise
Review: This movie was terrible, Toby Mcg. can't act, the girl is also terrible and annoying. This is a good movie to get dragged to by your girlfriend or wife. Might as well be named Maid in Manhattan. Dumb movie don't waste your money even to rent. Over rated piece of garbage. Be Warned

Summary: Spiderman's web an illusion
Review: The only reason this film is successful is because of September 11th. Do any of you really think this generic action film could ever acheive such a lofty standing as the number #1 movie of the year if New York City did not go through such tragedy?

Tobey McGuire is far to passive as an actor to carry this film. His performance during Uncle Ben's death was not very convincing especially with those forced tears.

How about the annoyingly over-acted performance of William Defoe? Or the absurd special effects to create Spiderman? Is that entertainment? Does anyone know what a Five Star movie truly is?

Comic book fans definitely have influenced the thinking of the average movie viewer with their rants all across the internet about how excellent this movie is. In reality, it is NOT an excellent film and many need to realize this.

It's great to know that many are finally awakening from this illusion and realizing this horrid mess is truly not quality entertainment. Just look at the responses on other movie message boards and many of you comic book fans will realize the BACKLASH IS COMING. Get ready to see a darker future for this bloated franchise

Summary: It was stupid!
Review: I thought it was really dumb. The storyline was bad, the ending [was bad] and the fighting scenes were just plain awful. The guy who played Spider-Man was ugly and didn't look right as Spider-Man. It looked like they copied this movie from Superman and Batman because it's almost the same storyline. The stunt scenes looked like they put a different guy in the costume to make it look like Spider-Man. I just really didn't like it. I hope the movie Daredevil turns out good it has Ben Affleck in it he's way cuter than Tobey Maguire. I think Spider-Man should have been played by Matt Damon or Ben Affleck because there cuter.

Summary: Great fun, great movie
Review: Wow. I never expected that Spider-man would be so great. ... After I saw the preview, I said to myself, "Tobey Maguire is going to play Spider-man? The world must be coming to an end." I guess I was just out of the mix, because Maguire did a great job, and the movie is more than I ever thought it could be. It's awesome man!
The movie is better than the cartoon, and that's saying a lot. Spider-man's costume looks so cool, as does the Green Goblin's (Willem Dafoe). The action sequences are fast-paced and riveting, and Danny Elfman's musical score is rich and powerful. Well, here is the real reason why Spider-man is so great:
Remember how it was easier to be entertained as a kid? I do. I remember that during every Power Rangers episode (at least the old-school ones), I would wait in suspense until the morph battle at the end. ...the Megazord would take one swift swing at the evil monster with his awesome blade, and the bad guy he would fall dead, helpless to the amazing power of the Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers. See, what the power Rangers did for me then, Spider-Man does for me now. I didn't just pass the movie off as comic book nonsense. I was like whoa. Spider-Man is the real deal.
And, hidden beneath all the wondrous action and comic book drama (which is by no means a bad thing), there's a message from the hero: "With great power, comes great responsibility." Spider-man is a modern myth. I just can't wait until the sequel.

Summary: A nice light movies
Review: I enjoyed this DVD (just got it for Christmas). I did not see the film in the theatres, so I miss some of the roller coaster ride you get from the giant screen. Tobey Maguire was perfect for Peter Parker. I enjoyed his almost clueless personality; an direct opposite of Spiderman's heightened senses.

They could have found someone else for Mary Jane. I am not a big Dunst fan, and it was hard to get past that.

The supporting material on the DVD is great. I enjoyed the interviews with the previous artists and writers of Spiderman. Also I really enjoyed the bio of composer Danny Elfman (one of my favorite musicians). If you enjoy comic book movies that are not as dark as Spawn, this will be a great addition for you.

Summary: Does whatever a spider can
Review: I love Spider-Man the comics, but I didn't know whether I would love the movie, after disliking other comic-related movies such as X-Men. But after seeing Spider-Man, I can definitely say that this is up there with Superman with the comic-book movies. Tobey Maguire makes a great choice to play Spider-Man. Some may think he's an odd casting choice, but I think he's perfect. Kirsten Dunst, James Franco and the overacting-and-loving-it Willem Dafoe round out the cast.

The DVD is amazing; the menus are just spectacular. I loved there was actually a section on the comic book; now why wasn't something like this on the X-Men discs? The comic cover gallery, however, was a bit of a rip; I thought it showed all the covers, but it only shows a select few from a year, with a brief write-up on it. All in all, this is one of the best DVDs of the year.
