Summary: Great when you turn your brain off & enjoy.
Review: Go watch a Streep movie if you want real drama. Go watch Casablanca if you want a classic. Go watch The Longest Day if you want the multi-national approach. The movie doesn't apologize for being a flag waving comic book. I loved it for what it was....two hours of fun! Buy it if you enjoy this type of movie....don't if you want depressing drama staring the above.

Summary: Very lame big budget movie, skip it.
Review: Typical dumb action movie, a lot of explosions, and nothing else. Contrast this with a movie like The Road Warrior, which was a pretty low budget film, but with great acting and directing and a lot of intense action scenes. Don't waste your time or money on this one.

Summary: Like, this wuz kewl and stuff
Review: Do you see the title of this review? That should give some clue as to the type of people this film is directed at. This may just be the worst movie ever made. It has one quality that may be deemed beneficial for some people: it will insult your intelligence like no other. Therefore, there are two audiences this super-hyped, overbudgeted crap is aimed at: wretched masochists who've tried all else and failed, and mental patients with severe neurological dysfunction.

Summary: Explosive action. Cheap laughs. Good Movie.
Review: ID4 was a great movie. It was thrilling and even funny at times. The cast was incredible, especially Will Smith. He is a great actor and shines in this blockbuster. I liked this movie because it could appeal to a lot of people, people who liked comedy, people who liked action, even people who liked big motivational speeches. I think this movie deserves more than five stars.

Summary: Fun, could have been much better
Review: It's a comic book with great special effects and lots of one-dimensional characters that are incredibly annoying or incredibly dumb. you may find yourself rooting for the aliens just so they'll wipe out Judd Hirsch's character. It was an O.K. adventure that should have been quite a bit better. I don't put it in the league of "War of the Worlds" or "The Day The Earth Stood Still."

Summary: it deserves that !
Review: us only saves the world ???????

Summary: Overall its a good movie
Review: I enjoyed the movie but again it is way to much flag waving. but have you ever noticed that in most movies that have anything to do with some sort of doom that will end the existence of this entire planet, that it is always america that pulls through and saves everyone on the planet? And the weird guy who dies's son is hot. it was still a good flick.

Summary: Great Entertainment (for U.S. citizens)
Review: If you read on thru this whole list, you'll see that people either love or hate this movie. The ones that hated it expected it to be something its not - Star Trek, apparently, although they are somehow upholding Star Wars as being a believable picture with serious acting and well-rounded character development. HUH?

Independence Day is neither. It is an action film, in the tradition of The Rock and ConAir. If you like that stuff, you'll like this better. If not, you probably won't like this - especially if your normal film selection runs toward serious drama. This isn't Wells, and it isn't meant to be; nowhere did the producers say they were re-making the War of the Worlds except in people's imaginations.

I only had two problems with this film:

1) It's target audience is the USA and only the USA. Now, if you're a US citizen, like I am, and you thought it wouldn't be shown in any other country, you could sit back and enjoy it and get all teary-eyed with patiotism. [Just like if it was made in your country and depicted your country as saving the day you might react the same way - probably most people have some kind of fantasy where they save the world single-handedly, even if the fantasy is only momentary - the movie is like that]. But when you know other world citizens will see it, it's just plain embarrassing. Unfortunately, what it *does* try to get across (its only real message) is that we would all of us on Earth work together if anything like that ever happened (and you know we would, I don't care where you're from). And it fails this by being too US-oriented. We're not all a bunch of provincials, in spite of movies like this being made.

2) The inclusion of an absolutely gratuitous death for no reason other than to draw sympathy, apparently. You'll know what I mean when you see it. These two problems are all that kept it from being five stars.

I still recommend you see it. It was outstanding otherwise (unless you're the heavy drama type as mentioned above). If you're not from the US, just bite your tongue and know that a lot of us are just as embarrassed as you are miffed.

Summary: Stupid movie made a lot of money
Review: This is one pretty stupid movie that made a lot of money. Don't watch it

Rating: 4 stars
Summary: Not to be taken seriously
Review: If you take this film seriously, you'll be seriously disappointed. It's just a bit of wacky fun Don't expect it to make you feel, don't expect it to make you think - just laugh at the actors hamming it up next to some pretty decent FX. Overly flag waving, IMHO, but still fun.
