Summary: Non-existent plot but it's working!
Review: The plot (if at all) of the movie has been reused many many times before: evil corporation, things gone wrong. But all this is not the most important for horror thriller (although it never hurts) as this movie proves. This movie has suspense (at least it kicked my adrenaline), the special effects are quite good (I would do without the monster in the end though, which I thought was silly) and the acting is more then adequate.

Summary: Resi Evil... Resi Terrible more like
Review: Where to start, where to start. I know... the game. Resi Evil the game was, and still is, one of the greats. It had everything you could've hoped for. Zombies, action, scaryness, and a conspiracy/mystery. The sequels continued the story, and once again great. They where like movies themselves. Now, lets look at the movie on its own before we compare it to the original game (resident Evil 1 - psone). The casting of Milla Jovovich, although she can't act, wasn't bad. It was the others who where terrible. Michelle Rodriguez... OH MY GOD, when she tried to act tough, i squirmed. The Story... oh yeah, there is no story. The zombies... people with a bit of grey make up and contacts (although the dogs where good). Action... Yawn. Scary level 1-10 (10 highest) -4. Sory to sound sarcastic, but it stunk. Now the comparison. With the game, you had a great story with real suprising twists. You had real terror, and great music to go with it. Even the characters where top (although the voice acting is the only bad point on this game). It was gritty, it never had mad sci fi gizmos... it was a true horror game with true horror survival game play and could've been easily converted in to a film. But no, Paul Anderson (One of the worst directors ever) some how gets the job to turn this great game in to a film. Instead of keeping to the story, he throws out all the work done by the guys at Capcom and uses the name to tell his own so-called story. he throws out the characters of resi evil and brings his own in. Who ever says this is a kick ass movie deserves to have there ass's kicked. I've heard this be called a prequel. If its a prequel, where's Albert Wesker. Bye this film at your own preil. Regarding the sequel, Apocalypse, i've seen stills of Milla and the new character, Jill Valentine (thats right) and four words come to mind, looks cheap and tacky. Don't let the trailer fool you. Kick ass film... yeah right... idiots. If the review sounds rough, sorry. Very angry man. Paul Anderson has destroyed any chance of a proper Game Adaptation with Resi Evil, With Chris Redfield the main guy, and Albert Wesker the arch nemeisis and the betrayer. I Hope the studios see sense and don't make a 3rd resi film, and leave it a few years for a proper director to come in and revive the franchise in the proper way.

Summary: About what I'd expect from the genre......
Review: I haven't played the Resident Evil games, mostly because I saw the previews and I admit it, I chickened out. So I can't compare to the games how accurate the movie is and so forth. I watched this movie because I wanted something interesting, scary, suspenseful one evening, oh yes, and a little gross. That is, more or less, what I got. It falls under the genre of sci-fi horror for me. It has that creepy being-isolated-and-stalked-by-icky-things feel to it much of the time. Milla is great in her role. I'm not sure the movie would have worked at all without her. If you're a fan of hers, the movie is worth seeing for that reason alone, as she's featured in most scenes. Oh yeah, and for the boys, there is some (subtle) nudity.

So it was kind of fun, kind of creepy (I did get very tense watching it in several parts), kind of interesting, though it did borrow from other films. I liked the effect the Red Queen had on it all. Her voice was cold and calculating, in a sinister, playful kind of way. The ending was really good and actually left me wanting to see what happens next. But....

It's hard to watch the movie and not, several times, wonder "if only they'd done this.... If only they'd done that....."

For me, the boss mutant creature should have been left out. If only they'd introduced the zombies more gradually, building up the tension towards a climax in the movie where the heroes face the huge hoard, rather than revealing the true horror of their mass numbers and hungry violence so soon. By undermining their emphasis on the zombies so soon in the movie, they then needed the boss mutant creature to up the ante. It almost seemed.... inconsequential by that point.

There were little inconsistencies that didn't make sense either. I get that they needed the amnesia scenario so that we, the viewer, could learn things along with Milla, but exposing the military operatives that are supposed to be protecting the entrance to The Hive to a memory-loss-inducing nerve gas doesn't seem very efficient. And there was some sloppy moviemaking. Keep your eye on the note Milla finds in the beginning, the handwriting, and compare it to the flashback scene involving that note towards the end. I'm pretty sure I didn't miss anything.... It looked like a flub to me. OK, everybody's a critic. I'm done. :)

Summary: Good idea for a prequel
Review: Since Romero's trilogy never gave a real explanation for the return of the zombies Resident Evil would make a good prequel. At least that's how I have it set up in my collection.

Summary: Great movie...but..
Review: I admit, I have grown to love this movie. I was able to seperate the movie from the game and look at it as more of a prequel to the game. The ending is also one of the best that I have ever seen when the camera pulls back and shows us the destruction, but at the same time I also would have LOVED for it to be more based on the first game. Where is the creepy mansion!? Where is the creepy music!? (the only music that sounded like the music used in the game was when Mila puts on her robe after coming out of the shower) It would have been so cool if they used the same atmosphere as in the game, even if they used diff. characters. Since RE2 the game was more action oriented maybe the sequel to RE the movie will mimic the game in more ways. I hope it doesnt get to stupid though because I heard the Milla is supposed to have super powers in the sequel. *rolls eyes* STICK TO THE FORMULA GUYS!!!

Oh, and the commentary on this movie is funny as all hell! The best commentary of any movie ever! Milla and Michelle seem like they have great personalities and it shows during the commentary

Summary: Very Entertaining !!
Review: First off I will say I don't play the video game. I'm sure a lot of the game's fans are angry because the movie doesn't follow the game to a tee. It's a movie based on the game, people, not a documentary of the game, so give the cast and the director some freedom. They did a great job here. I enjoyed "Resident Evil" a lot! I was most impressed with Milla Jovovich's character, she looks so fragile and beautiful, but she can defend herself easily and shows no fear, mentally very strong. The story line was very interesting and kept me guessing. The style was creepy & gory and also fast paced. Great casting! All the characters fit well and the actors did a great job with this movie. The visual/special effects was awesome!! I can't see any flaws at all. I just wish this movie went on longer, but the sequel "Resident Evil:Apocalypse" opens in October! I can't wait. Glad they didn't make this one a kiddie PG-13 flick. This DVD is also available as a superbit!!!

Summary: one of the least scary zombie movies i have ever seen
Review: It never gets the heart pumping never provides decent suspense no tense moments what so ever. the action is shoddy and terriably executed. Watch a classic Zombie flick instead somthing from the Dead trilogy.

Summary: Where's George A. Romero?
Review: Well well well... what have we here? Ah an intersting bit of trite marketing to 14-16 year old boys... interesting. What happened to the highly anticipated artsy horror film that the maestro of zombie movies was supposed to make? I for one am very curious as to why the studio canned Romero and instead brought in the "oh so talented" director of Mortal Kombat. What a crock of sheckles; I have had the privelage of reading a draft of the script by Mr. Romero and let me tell you that that film would have been a million times better than the mindless fodder that ended up on the screen.
I love George A. Romero's films, particularly his dead trilogy. It hurts me deeply that something beautiful could have been made and wasn't out of the deeply involving and original Resident Evil video game saga.
Well kudos to the studio for raping and pillaging a very artsy and wonderful videogame series. My deepest sympathies to George A. Romero for the studio's injustice. Hopefully someday a different director and smarter studio will do this series justice.
