Summary: I Made the Mistake...
Review: I made the mistake of buying the PFE release of this title on DVD. It is without a doubt the worst video transfer I have ever encountered. I realize that someone has to take the first step to see if this thing is actually a remastered version. My experience with PFE regarding their level of truth-telling on the phone was miserable, so it will not be me. If it turns out that this is a remaster of acceptable quality, I will buy one but not until I see the proof with my own eyes.

Summary: If You Have to Time Travel, Hawaii's the Place to Go
Review: Whew! All those fellas sniping at each other over the production of the disc make me want to avoid any mention of DVD quality, so I'll just stick to the movie:Big aircraft carrier helmed by KIRK DOUGLAS (applause here) gets trapped in a temporal vortex and whisked to 1941. Specifically Pearl Harbor. We know this because the natives use UHF bands to communicate, and everybody who's a power today knows microwave transmitters are the way to go. Anyway, after an altercation between a Zero and some fat senator's pleasure craft we get to the meat of the plot: what if you can prevent not only one of the biggest naval disasters of the century but change the course of the world? Do you? SPOILER: The answer was 'yes', but they got sucked back to the present before they could take action. Not surprising, really. Good fun, not meant to be taken seriously. Martin Sheen was wasted here in my opinion, as his character's main purpose was to be the one who makes it there and back (or had and so had to go in the first place...ah well, you'll see). At least the lady got her dog back. Good weekend fun.

Summary: Journey To the Unknown
Review: To start, this is a great film and I have seen it many times and definitely desire a copy of it for my collection. Its a classic science fiction story whereby in this case a navy carrier travels back in time because of a time warp just before Pearl Harbor and has to make the decision whether to change history or not. It has a nice twist at the end. Good special effects too. On the downside, I have read numerous reviews from people on e-bay who have bought the Pacific Entertaiment product and were very displeased with the quality. Now after reading the reviews of the previous reviewers here it sounds like it may have finally been remastered and the quality improved on. So I will give it the benefit of the doubt, but I will not buy a copy of it until I rent a copy and see for myself whether it is up to par or I buy the Australian version (which is excellent) but only plays on a PAL system. As they say caveat emptor. Its a great movie but check it out before buying.

Review: Is this a new, remastered version or just the same old thing in a new package? I hope it is; the color and picture quality as well as sound could be fantastic for this DVD in the right hands.

Review: If this is the same disc Pacific released before, it's not worth the money. The transfer wasn't enhanced for 16x9 TVs and it looked like someone projected the film on their wall and videotaped it with a camcorder. Blech!

Summary: The Final Countdown
Review: A new "Final Countdown" DVD? Where has it been made available to merit 5 stars if it's not released until August 2003?If Triumph is owned by PFE, does this mean we can exchange our other "TFC" DVDs for the newer version? How are we to trust anything remotely associtated with PFE anyway? (I'm still sore from being burned by PFE the first time).I think I'll wait until I read the reviews on the new version before committing to any pre-purchase for another beer coaster.

Summary: PFE Prez is wrong
Review: I have heard nothing but god awful reviews of the PFE DVD release of "The Final Countdown." Not only was the picture not digitally remastered, but there is no widescreen available, no special features and Ive heard not even any chapter breaks. I hope the re-release of this DVD will do it justice. Because the PFE version is just terrible. I give the movie 10 stars out of 5, but the PFE DVD is 0 out of 5.

Summary: Final Countdown, re-issued again
Review: For those of you not in the business, Triumph Media IS Pacific Family Entertainment. They've re-issued the DVD in a MUCH better version than previous editions. These DVDs have scene access, but no other frills. If you're looking for deleted scenes, you'll be disappointed. It's just the movie, widescreen only, and it's one hell of a movie!

Review: An exciting docudrama of a modern nuclear powered aircraft carrier that goes through a time warp to arrive off the cost of Hawaii on December 6. 1941. When you discover where and what period of time you are in, as the Captain, what do you do? You have a ship that can destroy the imperial Japanese fleet steaming toward Pearl Harbor, yet we are not at war with the Japanese. A thrilling well done film with a stellar staff. A 5 star film by anyone's measure

Review: A movie truly deserving of a new release. One of the best movies ever released in the 80's!
