This course is intended for IT professionals who are responsible for installing, configuring, customizing, optimizing, integrating and troubleshooting Microsoft Windows 98. Participants should be familiar with Windows 95 or Windows NT 4.0, completed NETg courses series 71441 - 71444, Networking Essentials 2nd Edition and have taken the first course in the series.

Unit 1: Configuring Hard Disks in Windows 98 1 - 2 hours

Identify the features of primary and extended MS-DOS partitions.
Create partitions on a hard disk.
Delete partitions on a hard disk.
Format partitions on a hard disk.
Identify the differences between FAT16 and FAT32 file systems.
Identify the tasks to be performed before converting a partition to FAT32 file system.
Convert an existing FAT16 partition to FAT32.
Identify how Windows 98 implements long file names in FAT partitions.
Identify the MS-DOS file name that Windows 98 will generate for a long file name.
Match the common problems encountered while working with long file names with their probable solutions.
Sequence the different compression methods supported by DriveSpace3 in the order of the level of compression that they achieve.
Compress a drive by using DriveSpace3.

Unit 2: Printing in Windows 98 1 - 2 hours

Match the print subsystem components with their functions.
Sequence the steps in the printing processes for the print data types.
Enable the bi-directional printing support in Windows 98.
Enable the Extended Capabilities Port (ECP) support in Windows 98.
Install a local printer.
Identify the local printer configuration options that you need to set in a situation.
Configure the spooling options for a printer according to a requirement.

Configure a print queue to use deferred printing.
Disable the MS-DOS print job spooling.

Unit 3: Maintenance in a Stand-Alone Environment 2 hours

Scan a drive by using the ScanDisk utility.
Defragment a hard disk by using the Disk Defragmenter utility.
