Audience
Prerequisites and assumed competencies: This certification is targeted towards two groups. The first group is Network Administrators with very little experience. The second group is technical professionals from a variety of fields who want to improve their effectiveness by learning more about the basics of networking. Typical duties performed are supporting existing networks, planning LANs, and developing technical solutions, which incorporate a network component. A+ Certification, which CompTIA also sponsors, can be used as a prerequisite, but it is not necessary. A+ Certification certifies the knowledge of microcomputer hardware service technicians with six months of on-the-job experience. The Network+ audience is defined as someone who would work under the direction of a network administrator; it is an entry level IT certification program that fills the gap between A+ and MCSE/CNE. Recommended prerequisites are A+ certification or equivalent knowledge. A Network+ professional can be expected to be able to install a client with an emphasis on TCP/IP.
