This is the second course in a five-part series that will provide IT professionals with the knowledge and skills necessary to design and implement database solutions using Microsoft Access 2000. At the completion of this course, students will learn to retrieve data from an Access 2000 database; customize forms, use forms to accept validated data, and navigate between controls and records in a form; customize reports and create advanced reports for displaying data; and customize, enhance, and deploy a Data Access page.

This series is designed for database programmers and developers who want to design and implement database solutions using Microsoft Access 2000. Participants should have completed Microsoft Access 2000 End User Series (Course Series 72050 - 72052) and the first course in this series.

Unit 1: Queries 1 - 2 hours

Create a join to retrieve data from multiple tables by using a select query.
Modify the join type between tables by using the Design view.
Create a view to retrieve data from multiple tables according to a specified criterion by using a parameter.
Create a view to retrieve data from a table according to a specified criterion by using an expression.
Summarize data to display the top values from a table by using a select query.
Summarize data to display the aggregate values for a table by using aggregate functions in a select query.
Display related data in a spreadsheet-like format by creating a Crosstab query.
Create a table by using a Make-Table query.
Append records to a table by using an Append query.
Update the records in a table by creating an Update query.
Delete records from one or more tables having a one-to-one relationship by using a Delete query.
Delete records from multiple tables having a one-to-many relationship by using a Delete query.

Unit 2: Forms 1 - 2 hours

Customize a form by modifying the properties of a control.
Customize the functionality of a form by using the Design view.
Create a subform by using the Design view.
Create a dialog box by using the Design view.
Validate the data entered in a form by setting the Validation Rule property of a control on that form.
Validate the data entered in a form by using macros.
Modify the tab order to navigate between the controls on a form.
Implement navigation between the records displayed on a form by using macros.

Unit 3: Reports 2 hours

Customize the sections in a report in the Design view.
Add controls to a report in the Design view.
Resize the controls in a report by setting control properties.
Sort the records displayed in a report in the Design view.
Group the records displayed in a report by setting the group properties in the Design view.
Apply conditional formatting to the fields in a report in the Design view.
Display the calculated values in a report in the Print Preview view.
Export the data in a report to an external application.
