Summary: What's the big deal?
Review: Okay, based on all the scary reviews listed below, I almost bought the Block software instead of Turbo Tax this year. However, we have rental property and I didn't want to spend the significant amount of time re-entering and re-calculating all the depreciations for the properties. I decided to go ahead and get Turbo Tax and take the risk, figuring if I had problems with it, I'd return it. Boy am I glad I did. I had NO problems with the activation (just make sure your internet connection is set up to run automatically). It ran slick as a whistle as it has always done. Not only that, but I got all my tax info entered in 1 hour. Now all I have to do is wait for the forms to come to confirm my numbers and file the puppy. I don't see how doing taxes could get any easier than this!

Summary: Another paying customer gone!
Review: I too will be switching to Tax Cut this year. Call it what you want, but any program which is uninstalled without my consent, and covertly monitors certain aspects of my computer is spyware.

Summary: No activation required after October 15th
Review: Please note that after October 15th activation is
no longer required. This slightly improves the
situation since if you change computers after
October 15th you can install the software again.

But it really is too bad that you can't have it on
your notebook and desktop, or your home and work
machines.

It isn't a program I'd choose to buy any more due to
Macrovision and what C-Dilla installs in the hidden
area of your hard drive.

Very sad that a clueless product manager can do to such
damage to a once fine company. They could have used a
much less intrusive type of anti-piracy protection and
achieved their goal without alienating their loyal, paying
customers.

Summary: Do NOT Buy this!
Review: I end up buying 2nd license to file my return. And the only reason I purcase the 2nd copy is that I already spent 2 weeks working on my return (lic 1), before I last my drive. I was lucky I made a backup of my return, but in order to complete my return Intuit (reinstall on the new drive)forced to buy 2nd license. What will happen if you want to ammend you return years from now...buy another copy??..No way. I never used TaxCut,but my next purchase will be that and not turbotax.

Summary: Don't Give In to the Hype and Conjecture...
Review: It's amazing to me that the reviews for this program are so heavily influenced by conjecture and mob mentality. TurboTax is a stellar product, and it is a shame that misinformation about product activation might force potential TurboTax buyers to choose another, inferior program. The facts are that SAFECAST is NOT spyware, you CAN install the software on multiple computers, and the VAST majority of users won't be inconvenienced by product activation. For reliable information about TurboTax product activation, bypass the misinformation bandwagon and go right to a credible source.

Summary: My actual experience-- activation is NO problem
Review: As a loyal, long-time user of TurboTax (8+ years), I felt I should get the straight scoop before jumping to a competitor so I bought the product and installed it-- here's what I found in the product. This whole thing is NOT A BIG DEAL.

1) If you purchase a new PC you CAN install TurboTax on that new PC for NO additional charge. I tried this, you call their support # and they just ask a couple questions to make sure you're the real deal.

2) I'm convinced all these spyware claims are groundless after reading an FAQs on their website ("About Macrovision Safecast and C-Dilla"). Would Intuit really ruin their business like that? I think not.

3) After reading the FAQ on the TurboTax website ("Do I need to activate TurboTax again if I reinstall the program?") it appears that you can install on more than one computer after 10/15/03 (read: re-installing TurboTax to file an amendment or print your return 5 years from now won't be a big deal)

4) Printing on another PC is EASY. I'm in the product now-- there's an option to Save in PDF format in the printing area of TurboTax. You can print on ANY PC using Adobe Acrobat. I've also tried this and it works.

I'm sticking with TurboTax. I've tried TaxCut too and it's not nearly as good as TurboTax. Seems like lots of rumor and confusion out there. Buy TurboTax and you won't be disappointed. GO JETS.

Summary: Copy Protection will backfire
Review: I have the solution for those of you who want to put the program on your laptop and/or re-install 3 years from now in case of an IRS audit. There is a guaranty on the box that says use this program for sixty days and if you are not satisfied, return it for a full refund. I did return Turbo Tax and got a full refund. I am buying Tax Cut with the refund.

Use the guaranty - that's what it is for. If you are unhappy for any reason return Turbo Tax and get a REFUND and buy a product that does satisfy you.

Summary: I would like to give it 0 stars.
Review: I would like to join the host of others who have given TurboTax the lowest possible rating. I would give it 0 stars if that were a choice. I made the mistake of buying TurboTax with no advance warning whatsoever of the new security measures that this year's version would have. I'm even more upset that the program also installs the so-called C_Dilla [program] that requires all but a low level reformatting of the hard drive to get rid of it. Just shame on you Intuit!

Summary: Reinstallation Nightmare!
Review: The makers of Turbo Tax alledges that we are making much ado about nothing! Well, I installed TT and my system (Windows XP Home) became unstabled. I then uninstalled TT and then I manually removed C-Dilla, by first going to Control Panel,Administrative Tools and then Services to Disable/Stop C-Dilla. Then I went to Windows\System32\Drivers and removed C-Dilla's "exe" file and another C-Dilla file. I found it strange that C-Dilla was the ONLY file in the Driver folder that had an "exe" extension!

I rebooted and all was well. Then I read Intuit's lie posted on the website and decided to reinstall it...after all Intuit said that reinstalling TT would most likely not even require a call to Tech Support! Umph, what a crock!

When I reinstalled it, the Request Code required for Product Activation was BLANK...spent 45 minutes on the phone with TT's Tech Support for nothing!! I gave up and returned the Software and purchased Tax Cut Platinum. Tax Cut is not as "user friendly and pretty" as Turbo Tax...but hey it gets the job done and it does not require Product Activation.

I do plan to email Intuit's spokensman Mr. Scott Gulbransen (scott_gulbransen@intuit.com) to voice my displeasure! Hope u all will do the same...we need to let them know that they're no Microsoft....THEY AREN'T THE ONLY ONES SELLING TAX PREP SOFTWARE!

Rating: 1 stars
Summary: Not worth the hassle
Review: I am thoroughly frustrated with the product activiation and poor customer service. Installation issues are rendering me unable to use the product I legitimately bought.

I strongly suggest that prospective customers steer cleer of this product and Intuit. Historically, I have been a loyal Turbotax user. However, I now feel compelled to find another vendor and solution.
