Summary: Great to use -- easy to upgrade
Review: I just received Quicken 2001 today and upgraded from Quicken 98 (I wanted to finally get Y2K compliant). The program easily upgraded from my Q98 files with no problems what so ever. The new layout is very user friendly and the quick graphs are a nice touch.

As a person who only has a couple of bank accounts and no securities, Quicken Basic is the perfect tool. It's a great way to balance your checkbook and avoid common errors in simple math. The graphs are a neat feature and I find it helpful to be able to categorize and chart my expenses.

I really like the on-line display that you can set up. Quicken has a feature will it will let you upload the balances of your accounts to their web page for easy viewing anywhere you have net access.

The one problem I have with Q01 is that the on-line banking (at least with the credit card I had) was not automatic. You have to go to the cc's web site and download the Quicken format file in from the web site into your quicken folder.

Overall, if anyone is looking for a new money management program, I would highly recommend the Quicken series. Unless you have a 401(k) or a lot of stocks and bonds, the Basic program is more than you will ever need. With respect to upgrading, I did not see a huge differnce from Q98 to Q01, outside of the new web-like format. The register and reconciliation was virtually the same. So, unless you need to get Y2K compliant, I'd just keep the old version of Quicken.

Summary: Great way to organize
Review: I ordered and downloaded this version of quicken and discovered that all the multimedia parts are not included!! Had I known this, I would have ordered the real product with cd-rom instead. We can't use the self help movies because of the missing cd-rom disk. The rest of the program works fine, but I felt that the description of the download would state that certain files are not included. I would also like to see a price break as well. sprovost

Summary: Quicken does it again!
Review: I started out with Quickbooks Pro and I am constantly amazed at Intuit, I just keep moving up with their software, doing things that with any other program I never would have understood. This program is very user friendly and easy to work with. I am buying another for one of my employees who worked with it at our office and couldn't believe how simple it was. Neither one of us had any accounting experience but because Quickbooks is designed in easy to understand profiles everyone can us it.

As I said Quicken has done it again.

Summary: Beats Money 2001 Deluxe, hands down
Review: I switched to Quicken 2001 Home and Business after wrestling with MS Money 2001 Deluxe for a week (the first MS software I've really disliked, excluding Win95/98). Quicken is working great for me. I find the navigation much more intuitive than Money. I do think that Money had a better budget planner, but I wouldn't give up the ease of Quicken just for that.

Summary: Disappointed
Review: I used the product for years, than made the mistake of upgrading to a newer version. I guess in their desire to rush something new to the market it had bugs in it. The customer support is the worst I have ever experienced bar none. There is absolutly no one to call unless you want to pay per minute charge or chat on the internet. After two hours of holding on the chat service I got dumped by a busy server. The telephone people will not discuss anything without a credit card number. They should sell a service policy if they don't want to offer customer service. What a gross experience.

Summary: Good Software but beware if you use Pocket Quicken
Review: I was upgrading from and older version of Quicken and I found this to have more ways to view your finances. I just use this for my basic accounts and it is very good in keeping me organized. I don't think that they have made any upgrades that I think are useful for the average person.

I gave this software three stars because of the problem with synchronizing my pocket quicken. If do some research on landware.com you will see that the 2001 version uses a different method to read new transactions. It tries to match the transaction to an old one. If you don't recognize that it doesn't say "new" then the transaction will not be entered. You have to be very carefull when you accept data to your home computer.

Overall it is good software but I would rather use the older software for the pocket quicken.

Summary: A quicken user since version 2.0
Review: I've used Quicken since 1994 when I bought my first computer and Quick 2.0 came preinstalled. Since then I've tried MS-Money twice. I keep going back to Quicken. It's intuitive, logical and makes reconciling the check book a breeze. I admit that my finaces are fairly simple and others may need the deluxe or small business versions of the program, but I think for the average person the basic program is perfect. I don't upgrade every year. I don't think there's a need to. I moved from version 2.0 to Quicken 98 to the current version. The program is very stable. I haven't had problems with bugs or crashes in any version. I recommend it.

Summary: buggy
Review: Lost my data a few times with this one. Since I know my way around a hard drive, I've been able to recover. Wouldn't buy this one but what choices do you have....MS Money. Same ballgame.

Summary: Quicken Basic is very basic
Review: The Basic version of Quicken 2001 appears to be a tickler only. This version was purchased for the simple task of printing checks (due to my poor handwriting), but there is insufficient flexibility in formatting the print to (1)change the memo, and (2)align the fields on my checks. I am sure that with Quicken check forms it would do better, but that should have been mentioned in the specifications. The Help instructions seem to be written for a different version of Quicken, as they mention course and fine print-field adjustments that were not available on the Basic version of 2001. E-mail help, which is now fairly standard at other software publishers, is not (yet) available.
