Franklin Planner Software

Review: I bought this because the company I work for does not use Outlook (or any other calendar/scheduling software)...I, at least, needed something for myself to maintain appts, etc.
How disappointing this software is. Besides having the "feel" of something incomplete, there are some serious problems...here is what I have discovered after one day of use.
- There is no way to have this program auto-start with Windows. You must manually launch this application.
- There is no place to enter a website in the "Contacts" area of businesses, clients, friends, etc.
- When you bring up an email address using the Planner software, there is a button ("E-Mail:") that supposedly launches your email application with the recipient already filled in and ready for you to compose. Well, unless you have Outlook (and if you do, then why do you need this?) no application will start...and there is no way to select your email program...Outlook is hard-coded in.
-There is no way to enter a reminder, unless you assign some sort of duration (minimum 15 minutes) to it.
I verified all of these issues with Franklin-Covey.
So, save your money and buy something that's fully functional.

Summary: I really wanted to like it.
Review: I did a fair amount of comparison shopping. I knew what I wanted from my organizer. I thought that the Franklin Covey Planner Software would give me all the functionality that I needed plus a bit of focus to my decisions. It does everthing that it says it does, but the interface is just unappealing. There are a lot of little boxes and I could never decide how to arrange the desk top for really efficient use. I thought I could add the printouts to my paper planner and have the best of two worlds since I'm not ready for a handheld electronic organizer yet. But, the printouts are difficult to read and I can't print one day at a time, only weekly, monthly, or yearly views. I've used it for a couple of weeks. I also downloaded a trial version of another organizer. That one was from a real software company. It may lack the philosophical vision of a Covey product BUT it has all the style of a useful desktop device and the printouts are available to fit all sorts of paper planners. The printouts from the competitor product are ledgible and they leave formated space for written additions to the pages. So, all in all, the Franklin Covey Planner does what it was intended to do, it works, but it was't the best product for me.

Review: I used this software for 3 years. It worked great!! I used the daily task planner to help me do my job and keep me on track. I had things scheduled out as far as 2003. Well on Monday,I signed in and got an ugly error message, 3343. The FC website told me to email the database in for repair (I guess this is a common problem). I did and when the database was returned all of my entries were lost!!!! Gone!! Needless to say, I feel completely lost at work, wondering about all the tasks I'm not doing. I'm also afraid to begin using it again. It's like a relationship, I feel as though I can't trust it anymore....but on the otherhand 3 solid years of performance is a lot to disregard. If you decide to buy this software, I suggest synching it regularly with your palm, which is something I chose not to do, as I use my palm for personal use only. Maybe I should rethink that decision.

The introduction helps you develop your mission statement and what matters most whether you start with 2 word value phrases or paragraphs. Wizards help you plan weekly and daily and prompt you to think about what matters most....and it prints out with a great daily appointment and to do list. The manual, if you need it, is easy to follow. If you have a question, like I did, email tech support answers the next day.

The introduction helps you develop your mission statement and what matters most whether you start with 2 word value phrases or paragraphs. Wizards help you plan weekly and daily and prompt you to think about what matters most....and it prints out with a great daily appointment and to do list. The manual, if you need it, is easy to follow. If you have a question, like I did, email tech support answers the next day.

Review: This Planner is terrific. A friend recommended it to me and Iwanted to see how it worked. I downloaded a 30 day version off the Franklin Covey web site. I really liked the way I can keep track of everything going on...I went to [the Franklin Covey] store and they told me that it was a different version. I couldn't tell the version from Amazon.com but it looked the same so I bought it. It is the same. Now I can keep track of tasks that I am doing including time date stamping them. I can do my invoices easier at the end of the month because all the information is recorded. I can keep on top of birthdays, anniversarys and evaluation dates so much easier. In short it gets my day started and keeps me on track. The long range goal feature is super. I read the Covey book "7 Habits of Highly Successful People" and this program is much better as it makes you do the exercises. You input one piece of data and then it asks you ok now what are you going to do "next". This also helps to keep my goals in mind. A terrific planner. I would highly recommend it.
