Summary: It Just Doesn't Get Better Than This!
Review: I've used Lotus Organizer since the early 90's and have upgraded religiously. At job interviews, I'd even ask if I was allowed to install my one necessary program, Lotus Organizer. Now that I'm older and use a PDA, I still can't live without it. Any little thing I need to remember, any idea I might want to research later, just jot it, set a reminder and forget about it. My favorite feature of all is the linking, so I can cross-reference a contact with notes, web pages, events or even other contacts. I also love being able to archive; I have one large file that stays on my home hard drive and has every old task, appointment and contact since before 2000 while my active file stays trim. It's indispensable. If IBM ever drops it, there's nothing on the market right now that could rival Lotus Organizer. From college to career, it's done well by me!

Summary: Overall, the best one around...
Review: I've used Sidekick, Outlook 98, Day-Timer and older versions of Organizer. Overall, Organizer is the most intuitive and competes head-to-head on features. I have one complaint -- alarms that are set to pop up a few days before an event don't always work. The addition of an integrated Web site tab is a nice feature from which you can go to a Web site directly from Organizer. Email integration seems to be tighter than in previous versions. At $70+, the program should work flawlessly and, for the most part, does.

Summary: Tim Shelling is right
Review: In response to previous reviewer. There is no way for a file to protect its self from being overwritten (unless marked read-only and in this case will not work-since you have to periodically have to write to the file.) This is a problem with the Operating System. You should be voicing your concerns to Microsoft, or use NT, which has file level security. This is like saying I can destroy your PC by deleting all the files in the Windows directory and calling that a Windows security flaw.My advice for all users of PC is backup, backup and backup. And to protect your information from wandering malice users, use good physical security. (i.e. lock your office door, users of Win2k and NT lock your PC's when away from the desk.)

Summary: Serious Security Flaw
Review: It is easy to overwrite a password protected file with another file of the same name. All you need to do is "Save As" under the name of the password protected file. It is easy to lose information either by accidently or through malicious activity. If security is a concern consider other programs on the market. I voiced my concerns on Lotus' website several weeks ago and no one has been able to find a solution to this problem. I wish Lotus would take a more proactive position to customer concerns. I am extremely disappointed in Lotus Organizer 6 lack of security. I am even more disappointed in how nonresponsive Lotus is to security concerns.

Summary: One of the three most vital pieces of software I own
Review: Lotus Organizer is an excellent personal and professional organization tool. I have used it (in different versions) for years to keep my personal schedule, while living as an undergraduate and graduate student, researcher, and instructor. I am particularly impressed with the Palm Pilot interface, so that I no longer have to print out my weekly (or daily) schedule and carry around a piece of paper to mark on all week. It contains all standard features of such software, has an extremely intuitive and flexible interface, and is, quite simply, the home base of the organization system of my professional life. Version 6.0, in addition to adding the PDA interface, also corrects several minor annoyances from earlier versions. I particularly like the ability to schedule items which cross over midnight. Minor annoyances in this version will, I am confident, be worked out in the future. In particular, the routing system from the PDA to the Organizer sections and Address Book fields could use some work. However, on the whole it is a natural and extremely flexible tool.

Summary: Better Buy Bacon (Mavis), Too
Review: Organizer lies. It will not transfer DayTimer data. What's more, the third party CSR phone number(listed in the software itself) will know not that Lotus claims their support. And what's even more, Lotus' own CSR will be unapologetic and baffled that you do not wish to re-key several hundred names to enjoy the dubious benefits of their wonderful product. So buyer be very ware. This software will likely demand that you re-type all your data. And your calls to Lotus will contact you with unsympathic imbeciles. That's because they were hired by even more callous cutthroats, whose business plan is to sell you expensive software with nary a thought of offering you help should you require it. So if you think you may ever, ever need support, stay with DayTimer. With Lotus, as with MicroSoft, hey, you're out there alone.

Summary: Better to Find a Used Lotus Organizer '97 !
Review: This is a very difficult, time-consuming organizer compared to it's predecessor Lotus Organizer '97. Between the two, it appears that IBM bought out Lotus & RUINED this once great, easy system. By adding bells & whistles, it takes way too much brain damage & time to do even the smallest tasks. Too many options & too many steps. I was thrilled when I found an update of the wonderful original but, after 3 weeks, it hasn't lived up to expectations & I have returned it (thank you amazon.com!). Another serious irritation: the small instruction book they give you is not enough to figure out even the very basics & the "help" section in the software is grossly mis-named. I just re-loaded my old organizer until I can find another brand that doesn't make me curse the organizer gods hourly.

Summary: Great overall program, but needs cleaner Palm syncing
Review: This the best organizer for personal or business use. The screen is broken up into tabs representing the various organizer categories (i.e., to dos, contacts, holidays, etc.) The brights colors add to the great appearance and easy-of-use. Even though I have been syncing data between Orgainzer and my Palm for about 40 days without any mishaps, I do have one qualm . . . The Palm sync feature sometimes writes the item twice on the laptop file and the Palm pilot. If IBM can fix this feature, I would buy this over Outlook or Sidekick.
