Summary: Back to the Basics -- Free
Review: If you have any sort of spread sheet, why bother with Intuit's lack of concern for you. Get IRS Publication 17 -- Free including shipping -- Make your spread sheet work for you -- You already paid for it. Up date it next year. If your taxes are too complicated for that, your best investment is in an accountant. The link: Go to IRS(.)Gov, Forms and Publications by Mail, enter Pub 17, put it in your cart and check out.
PS. Short Intuit stock.

Summary: A Disappointment
Review: Like so many others, I have been using Turbo Tax for serveral years. I think that it is time to move on to something else.

When installing you need to activate your software so that you can use it. Before the installation is completed you are asked if you want to unlock Quicken...

Once the program starts you are bombarded with upgrade offers for other Turbo Tax Products.

This was the first year that I needed a form that was not included and so I had to update. That was a 30-40 minute process. Granted I live in the Stone Age and still use dial-up, but the Library of Congress will download quicker.

This was one irritation after another. I'd rather shove slivers under my fingernails.

Summary: Great product, don't believe the bad reviews
Review: I was originally nervous when a friend told me about all of the comments on Amazon. But when my TurboTax copy arrived in the mail (a surprise, but apparently a benefit for prior customers), I went ahead and installed it. As near as I can tell, the new activation process took about a minute longer, including going through the payment process since it had arrived free in the mail. Big deal. The product worked fine. I then gave it to that same friend who also activated the product trouble-free (of course, he now had to pay too). I question the claims regarding the 'legitimate' need to install the software on multiple PCs. If you need to install TurboTax on more than one machine, you not only need to buy another license,...

Summary: Great Product: Only thiefs complain about Product Activation
Review: Have been using fully licensed and purchased Turbo Tax for many years. I also use Quicken Home and Business and it integrates seamlessly. Intuit is one of the best developers of business software out there. This product makes doing one's taxes so easy.

I completely do not understand anyone complaining about an Activation process. The only reason an activation process would be disturbing is if you are a thief and are trying to steal the software - otherwise, its good business. Anyone who would prefer Intuit to go out of business - well guess who is Intuit's biggest competitor - Microsoft. Take your pick folks. Pay for the software or watch all the little guys get swallowed up. So, word to the wise - FBI should grab everyone's name who complained about activation codes because they're likely not paying for their software and have plenty of other illegal installations on their machines. Pehaps these guys aren't paying their taxes either now that they can't get their free TurboTax.

Summary: Bashing unfounded -- TurboTax still great
Review: I don't understand the reason behind all of the negative reviews. Perhaps they are all from TurboTax competitors, or customers angry that they won't be getting a free ride this year with a 'shared' (actually stolen) copy of the program. To them I say "The jig is up!" Time to pay your toll like every other honest American. As a software engineer, I say kudos to Intuit for having the bravery to stick their necks out on this issue. I'm sure they knew they'd take a few lumps, but despite what you may think, expect to see more of this, not less. You can bet that there are a thousand other software vendors out there watching this case and learning how they can implement their own product activation! Personally, this is only my second year using TurboTax, but I wish I'd been using it for the past 10 -- who knows how much money & time I would've saved. I had my version of Deluxe installed and activated inside of 5 minutes -- no problems. The product is great. Do yourself a favor -- don't believe all the bandwagon TurboTax bashing.

Summary: Stand up to product activation
Review: I was a regular Turbo tax user, but no more. I can't stand activation and monitoring schemes. Therefore, as far as I'm concerned, there is only one tax software on the market now, Taxcut. While I hardly condone software piracy, I have had it with product activation. It's intrusive, aggravating, and flat-out insulting. I have had my problems with Office XP, such as being forced to call and answer probing questions after being refused Internet activation (a hosed antivirus install forced me to re-format and install Office twice in one day on the SAME computer, however the same day double install obviously alerted M$ monitoring goons). Product activation on tax software is just wrong. It's bad enough that you can only use the rubbish one time and it turns into a shiny coaster after April 15th. Now they're forcing you to buy more licenses if you also want to complete a different tax return (as I frequently do for immediate family as a favor). I don't have to buy a license to borrow a cup of sugar or some bread from a neighbor and I'd be mad as heck if the food makers tried to force me to. That's my philosophy with software activation. They can scream about piracy all they want (although you can STILL obtain illegal bootleg software quite easily) but activation schemes like this are aimed squarely at the heart of the average consumer, to squeeze every drop of blood they can. I won't be victimized. If Taxcut starts this nonsense next year, it'll be back to the accountant for me. Here's a novel idea, why doesn't the Government stop spending billions on overpriced hammers and bombers and produce a tax software program with all the capabilities of TT or Taxcut for free? They could give it away like AOL does with it's discs. I guess I shouldn't expect Uncle Sam to make it easier and cheaper for me to fork over my hard-earned loot to him.

Summary: Still #1
Review: Why do you use TurboTax? To get your taxes finished quickly and easily with minimum hassles. NOTHING HAS CHANGED! It's a great product.

Summary: Must Read This!!!
Review: Why punish yourselves and Intuit for protecting their product? It's as user friendly as ever and makes taxes a breeze. I've been using TurboTax forever and can't understand why everyone is complaining this year. No problems here.

Summary: Loyal TurboTax User
Review: After reading the horror stories posted I was reluctant to buy it again this year but since it's familiar I did anyway and I'm glad I did. Easy to install, easy to use. As for the [C-Dilla] issue, no problem and it's easy to uninstall it when your done. Don't let the horror stories fool you too. It's as easy to use as ever!

Review: If you need to work on a second machine, just copy your data on to disk and update the original machine--it's not a big deal!!
