Summary: Backup bug
Review: I have been using Quicken since version 1 for Windows. I have been upgrading every 2 years. My last upgrade was 2001. In June my hard drive crashed. I thought, "No problem, I have been backing up regularly." I was using the Quicken backup feature to backup on to another computer on my home LAN. Boy was I shocked when I found that the last time it had actually been backed up was October of the previous year - 8 months of data gone. I was going to upgrade to 2003 hoping that they had fixed this bug, but I guess I will wait for the next release because of the bad reviews.

Summary: Can't use it with Norton Internet Security
Review: I had numerous warnings about private information. I could not use it. I wish I never bought it and I now have increased junk mail because I turned off my Norton Internet Security to use it!! Of course they got all my private information hence the junk mail. Folks, don't buy this product. Get Taxcut. It's leaner, private and cheaper. I give it no stars. It's overkill. Don't buy it.

Review: Check out the Amazon customer reviews for the 2002 and 2003 versions of Quicken and TurboTax. Average point scores (stars) for both software packages have dropped by about one point from last year to this year. Stay away from 2003-version products from Intuit.

Summary: Quicken issues after 3 months use
Review: I have been a satisfied user of Quicken for many years; a few months ago I upgraded to Quicken 2003. Since then the following has happened: On three occasions I have received the message "Online setup information is missing. Please visit [there site]... to see if this is a server related issue or try reinstalling Quicken to resolve the issue." Each time I have visited the indicated website (by writing down the URL and typing it in - it wasn't even "clickable") to find out that the problem did not seem to be "server related," and so I needed to reinstall Quicken in order to get a missing file - fidir.txt. It seems overkill to me to need to reinstall an entire programs just to replace a single text file. Give me the file and tell me what directory to put it in and I can do so a lot quicker and easier. I do not have the time to uninstall and reinstall Quicken 3 times in 3 months! When I click a menu (such as File or Edit) it takes a full 3 seconds for the menu to pull down. This did not happen with previous versions of Quicken, and it does not happen with any other program on my system - I am used to a menu pulling down immediately, not after a 3 second wait. On a few occasions when I have run a report and then clicked "customize" the system has crashed. For example, this occurred with the Income/Expense report. When I have Quicken open along with other programs, and another program's window is in front, and I click Quicken on the task bar, it frequently does not bring Quicken to the front. I need to minimize the other program in order to bring the Quicken to the front. This does not happen with any other program on my system. From the Quicken "Home" screen, I clicked the tab entitled "First Page." It showed me a graph of my expenses for the past month amongst other things. I clicked "Options" and the system crashed. Very frustrating issues!

Summary: Advertisements (and Spyware, too?)
Review: Quicken now automatically downloads advertisements directly into your files. I have an ad taking up a good portion of my screen, and I cannot make it go away. It is inteferring with my ability to use my own financial records. I am also concerned that Quicken is uploading my personal financial information and/or installing spyware on my computer. Remember, Quicken is owned by Intuit, which also owns TurboTax. Before you buy any Quicken product, take a look at the reviews on TurboTax. Intuit used to make good software. They made a good product, and we paid a fair price. Now, they have turned their substantial talents the dark side. Too bad!

Summary: Solid product, worth upgrading
Review: The product is very solid - I used quicken 2000 and 2002 before and upgrade to 2003 is worth it. I was thinking if I need Premier and Deluxe and stuck with Deluxe this time around. I like the ability to group accounts and ability and option to see net-worth all the in various group on the left side navigation bar. I like the online payments - some banks even have built functionality to have their web-based payments to be accessible from quicken and you don't have to signup for quickenbillpay if your bank supports online payments through quicken (bank of america does!).
The reviewers here seems to have jumped from yahoo finance message board (go back) they seem to write review for product they didn't even buy. How could you write a review if you decided to read reviews and didn't buy the product. That's more of comments on hearsay. I would give normally 4.5 stars if I could.
Reviewers are complaining about turbo tax on quicken 2003 - they are separate products and these same sheep are accepting Windows XP activation - what a surprise. Turbo Tax activation is no different than Windows XP.

Summary: No problems with 2003 deluxe - Impressed with the interface
Review: I have been using Quicken for about 6 years now. After reading the reviews on Amazon[.com], I was hesitant to upgrade my 2002 to 2003.
After installing 2003 deluxe - I am glad I bought the software. The installation was painless, registration was as simple as automatically loading last years information and sending it across. Once I opened up my Qdata - it took less than 3 minutes to convert the 2002 data to 2003. In less than 10 minutes, I had downloaded my transactions using the one step update. One problem is that it refuses to download the R3 update using the auto update - I had to manually download and install the R3 release. The interface is better than 2002, there are ads but these don't bother me. For e.g. on my accounts screen - below the investment accounts I have a small GIF for quicken brokerage and below the credit card list, I see a gif for a quicken credit card. Ofcourse, I would like to lose them but I really don't care. If quicken starts pushing more and more features into their new Premier version and forcing deluxe users to buy Premier - this may be my last quicken upgrade. I have Windows 2000 running on a AMD Athlon 1GHz

Summary: Save your money
Review: Luckily I bought the package with [$$$] rebate, it's not worth even [$$$]. I wanted to use it for stocks transaction processing. However, I wasn't able to see the data after downloading the file of my broker's web site. I cannot understand how companies make simple idea so complex to use till the point it becomes useless.

Summary: Great Product if you can get by the Ads...
Review: I am a Quicken Deluxe user for many years now.
I just purchased the 2003 version a week ago. Install was seamless as usual but I did notice a bit more Ads then the norm. And what's worse is that you can't get rid of them. What's great is that you can see the balances of your Checking and Saving Accounts instantaniously within a day or so. I have had some questionable charges on my debit card and if I didn't catch them as quickly as I did, who knows what would have happened. Not only do I use Quicken to reconcile my accounts, but I Pay Bills online too which is a great feature if you are out of town, busy (who's not!) and etc. Once the bills come in, you pop them into your register, change the date to make it a few days prior to it's due date, and go Online to submit them. The only time I buy stamps is for the Holidays! And I save on checks too! You should verify that these type of payments are accepted by your creditors and keep in mind that your Bank will charge you a monthly fee as long as they are set up for it. But in the end, Quicken Deluxe is worth the time of paying bills online and keeping track of your Debits and Credits. There are several graphs to show you where your Expenses are going- scary!Also, tracks and outlines your possible Tax Deductions as well! There are many other features which I normally don't use such as linking your Taxes to TurboTax, setting up Credit Card accounts and Debt reduction. Just recently, I started to use the Stock and 401K Portfolio. I gave it 4 stars out of 5 due to the annoying Ads.
