Summary: Very simple and works great.
Review: After reading some of the negative comments I just about did not buy Quicken 2003 Basic even though I had a $30.00 rebate making it free. My wife takes care of all the finances and usese Quicken 99 on her computer to keep track of it. So when I received Quicken 2003 I installed it on my computer just in case there were problems I could just uninstall it and not worry about it. I installed it and updated it on my computer with no problems what-so-ever. I rarely used Quicken 99 since my wife took care of this but I still had no problems using Quicken 2003. I read no directions since everything was simple and straight forward. Someone mentioned that you cannot hand enter checks but I had no problem at all doing this. I transferred the data from my wifes computer to mine and it worked perfectly. (Over 5 years of data). I then loaded it on my wifes computer with no problems. It does everything we need it to. It takes care of our checking account, savings account, credit card accounts and personal loans. I set up a personal loan I have for a friend and it even breaks down the principal and interest amount for me with the option of compounding it daily, monthly or yearly. I have to recommend it because it does everything it advertises. As far as customer service I do not know because I have not had a need for it. If you can use a checkbook and have just the smallest amount of computer knowledge this program should work great for you. Especially at the end of the year come tax time when you can print out a year of expenses itemized however you choose.

Summary: Quicken 2003 Stinks !!!
Review: After using Quicken for 8 or so years, I'm sorry to say that buying Quicken 2003 is buying aggravation if you want to do anything besides basic addition and subtraction.
The manual ? It stinks.
Online help? It stinks.
Chat help ? Not on weekends or evenings after 7:00.
Telephone support ?...not available evenings after 7:00 or weekends.

I've wasted way too much time trying to get online accounts to run, etc. I'm very disappointed. Once upon a time I respected Intuit, but no more. It seems most of the product now is geared to get you to put stock trading information into Quicken's system...

Summary: Quicken 2003 is easy to use
Review: As a long time user of Quicken I am happy with the latest version. Their Guided Setup when you initially run Quicken 2003 allows you to easily set up your accounts. It also allows you to easily set up Online Banking (which is an improvement from Quicken 2001). Your accounts are visible from the home page making Quicken 2003 easy to navigate. The Budget function is a bit more cumbersome than 2001 but once you start working with it you can get the same results, it just takes a little longer. All in all a good product.

Summary: No problems for me!
Review: As a long time user of Quicken, I almost didn't upgrade from 98 basic to 2003 because of shaky reviews. However, it handled my old data transfer just fine. I've not had a problem....basically jumped on and started using. I'd give it 5 stars, but I haven't done that much with it yet. I have set up a new loan and worked with checking & savings accounts (data entry to reconciliation.) So far so good! (Knock wood!)

Summary: Risks Using Quicken
Review: Before you give Quicken such a favorable review, you might want to check the 4 month problem they have had with Credit Card downloads. These have compromised the integrity of customer financial records. Their final solution has been to have customers manually check 4 months of statements and enter missing transactions by hand.

In the course of this problem they gave out incorrect information stating how soon the problem would be fixed, and stating that when fixed one would be able to download the missing transactions. For months they did not even inform customers that the problem continued past the original June 24 deadline.

Summary: There is NO Tech Support when you have problems unless ...
Review: FIRST POINT and VERY IMPORTANT: There is NO Tech Support when you have problems unless you want to fork out a hefty [amount] per minute! SECOND POINT, plan to have problems.I made the mistake of upgrading from Quicken 1999 to Quicken 2003 (bigger, better, wow!)

Here is the sad situation I just came out of. For three days, and for many hours, I tried to get Quicken 2003 to log on to the Internet to register and use the services (that's why I upgraded).I tried using my Roadrunner cable service (zero). I tried my trusty old 56k modem (nada). Round and round in circles and I got nowhere.

Yes, I tried to get help and only got more frustrated and angry at Intuit. The "help" in the program Quicken did nothing to resolve the problem. Then I went online and found that the WEB Support that Quicken provides was as dismal...Sure you can get human technical support but you will pay [alot] per minute (and those minutes can rack up).

Sure, I kept at it. Yes, I know, that wasting HOURS on [this]program is a waste of time...But final, the god of gigabits smiled, and per chance, by going back through and check out the security setting of my LAN and Internet I saw that both were on medium security (default setting for one) BUT as soon as I lowered the settings one notch-Voila! I got on. (If you have this problem Try going to 1.settings 2.control panel 3.Internet options 4.security and lowering the security settings.Quicken 2003 failed me miserably.

NOWHERE did Intuit have a notice that these settings could block you from getting on line. Intuit's installation is not "intuitive" enough warn of possible conflict and direct you to reset. The customer tech support is abysmal...A product of their stature should give a minimum of 30 day tech support - FREE! I am definitely going to check out Microsoft Money, and I recommend that you do too.

Summary: Ok So Far
Review: I am all too familiar with software disasters. I have developed a philosophy of staying away from new releases because of this. I decided on Q3 B because my bank advised that they were no longer supporting Q2k. I went with the basic version due to in the past not really using the features from the deluxe packages. I am running a 1.8 Gb, 512mb ram, W2K machine. The install went well although it took a while to convert the files. Apparently there is an encryption process that occurs which I will research later. The interface is a little more cluttered, but overall I was up and running in about 90 minutes. Also, the online update downloaded a software patch (expected) to update the app with the latest an greatest. Problem was, it turned my screen grey and did not give me any notice or status of what it was doing or the progress until completion. I worked with another machine for a while and when the drive settled down and the CPU utilization was at three percent, I rebooted. Everything came up fine. Hopefully by the time I have to upgrade again they'll have Quicken 2006 fully debugged. :)

Review: I guess I am just too dumb, but I did not find Quicken easy to use. The help menu is useless. The screens are hard to understand and the menu names do not make sense.

I used to use an Excel spreadsheet and I think I will just go back to this.
