Summary: Much faster than Quicken 2000
Review: I had been using Quicken 2000 for the past few years and decided to upgrade to the 2004 verion. It is a definite improvemnt and runs much faster than my old 2000. I did not have the negative experiences that others have reported. Overall I am pleased with this product.

Summary: I wish I could get my money back!!
Review: Unfortunately, once you open up the CD it is not returnable. Also unfortunately, you do not know how the software works until you have had sometime to try it. Basically, Quicken is a desktop marketing arm for Quicken. Everywhere you look there are additional services, advertisments, etc. where they are trying to get you to signup for their services or other costly items.

All I was looking for was a way to summarize all my accounts. The software provides you with the capability of downloading information directly from your financial institution. Only problem is that the way you go about setting up your account and passwords, it leaves you with concerns over how secure this information is kept. I personally do not want to have all my financial access information stored on my desktop or Quicken's website. I cannot figure out how you can use the product without providing this information. My expectation was that you can either set it up automatically or provide it each time you access your financial institution. It appears that you must setup it all up or you cannot use the software.

Anyway, with all the concern over security, I am not about to do this. This product is a waste of money in my mind. I will sell my on ebay or just trash it.

SAVE YOUR MONEY!!!!

Summary: Quicken please get your act together
Review: Up until now I have been a very satisfied Quicken user and have used Quicken continuously since 1987. Each year I update Quicken so as to have the latest product. It never occurred to me that Intuit would release a buggy product.

I justed tried to install Quicken 2004 on my XP machine and it would not install. I continue to get this error message. "Error 1311 source file not found E:\disk1\Data1.cab

I went to Quicken's support web page and found this little nugget. "If you are using Windows 2000 or XP contact Quicken customer support".

At this point I decided to reinstall Quicken 2003 because it had always performed flawlessly. Guess what? My Quicken 2003 would not reinstall and I got the same error message about not being able to find a source file.

Fortunately, I was able to use Norton's GoBack feature to return my pc to the way it was at midnight the previous night. Thus I am now able to continue to use Quicken 2003.

So my recommendation is if you need to update go with Quicken 2003 but definitedly avoid the 2004 model until it is fully debugged.

Summary: WHAT A RIPOFF - IT'S QUICKEN 2003 WITH A NEW BOX!!
Review: I have been using Quicken for over 10 years and have never been more unhappy with an upgrade than this. I really cannot tell the difference other than the colors.

INTUIT - GIVE ME MY $60 BACK!!!

Summary: Waste of money. More bugs than you can imagine.
Review: I used Quicken since 2.0 for DOS and went through multiple updates. This one from Quicken Deluxe 2003 to Quicken Deluxe 2004 is the first big disappointment with Quicken. Some basic functionality like Cash Flow report stopped working correctly. It worked 12 years ago perfectly. It now reports transfers between accounts as Inflow.

Example if you pay a credit card bill from a checking ammount it would be considered as your Inflow. There is an option to Exclude Internal Transfers but it does not do anything.

The support (I used online chat session) is a joke. They say that data file is corrupt first and that "the development team is aware of the problem and working on a fix" after.

I am glad that I have a copy of my data file in 2003 format.

Do not see any new functionality added since 2003 release.

Save your money and skip this release.

Summary: Do not buy this product.
Review: I really hate to post this awful review, but it fits. I have used Quicken for 11 years, and been quite happy, most of the time. No more. Quicken 2004's interface is unstable, which is annoying. The real problem is the handling of the data file.

From Quicken 2.0 for DOS all the way though Quicken 2003, I've never lost data. Now, with Quicken 2004, Intuit has corrupted my data file 3 times in the last 2 months. I do not have time to re-enter and re-build my data file every month.

Goodbye Intuit. I would revert back to Quicken 2003, but Intuit's support is sub-par also. Right now, their site is down. The 800 number needs a credit card to bill too.

We'll see how Microsoft handles my data in Money 2004.

Summary: Quicken 2004 is OK product
Review: I am really confused with these negative reviews. I just bought Quicken 2004 and so far I don't have problems. About tracking 401k, the problem could be that the companies don't offer you to download online statements; at least this is my case, so I need to do this manually. I think it will help a lot, if you buy a good book, even though I am very much computer literate I need books as reference to the product. My opinion is that you don't need to waste time with tech support in India (anyway it is very difficult to understand the accent) BUY a BOOK!!!!

Summary: Apparently Intuit lost focus on quality
Review: This is sad. I have Quicken 1999 which is, as far as I know, completely bug free. Quicken informed me via a pop-up that I must upgrade to 2004 or some online features will no longer work. After reading the reviews, no way. Unfortunately this is becoming the new reality. American companies are shipping jobs overseas to save money. It is happening in more and more industries, especially including the software and service industries. I seriously doubt that Quicken is programmed in the USA anymore. Maybe someday Intuit will figure out that they relinquished control of their product and product quality when they shipped it overseas. Until then I will stick with the 1999 version and forego the online transactions. Sad.

Summary: I'm loving it!
Review: I was quite leary after reading these reviews, but am very happy I upgraded to 2004 anyway. I am a CPA and use it for my personal finances. I'm also quite confused by most of these reveiws and can't help but wonder if the majority are posted by a competitor or inexperienced users. I haven't had a chance to scour my restored data yet, but I have not found ANY indications of data corruption. However, I will say that many features have been significantly changed and it does take a little time and patience to become familiar with these changes so I can see why some may feel their data has been 'corrupted'. Just take it slow at first, make periodic backups so you can easily restore if it seems that something 'isn't right' and you'll be fine. It is a good product and you should take these reviews with a grain of salt. I did have to call customer service for a refund of a downloaded copy (I didn't realize I could just unlock it for $10 less) and it went very smoothly. Other than that, I can't say anything about their service or tech support. I will be heading over to their site shortly to check for upgrades though... :)

Summary: Great product, terrible execution!!!!
Review: I have been a longtime user of the Quicken Software. Needless to say, I'm a huge Quicken Fan!!! I have updated my Quicken software every year. I believe that Quicken is a great product, BUT unfortunately, it has gone the way of other large software companies...now, it's more important to get a product out instead of putting a better product out. This is what happened to Quicken Deluxe 2004. I couldn't believe that Intuit released this version w/so many bugs in it. Don't take my word or the word of others about the bugs in the product, go to Qucken.com and read about the updates. Already, they are on number 3!!!

When I downloaded my Quicken Deluxe 2004 I immediately noticed that inputting data in the register was very slow...the program typing was 'dragging'...It was like I was typing but the words were about two letters behind...I couldn't believe it...are you telling me that the beta testers at Intuit didn't see this. It was painfully obvious!!! Then, when I tried to put my computer into sleep mode, it wouldn't happen. My screen would go black as in 'sleep mode' but the computer was still running. This was due to another program glitch that Intuit put another patch out. They also were having problems w/the back up file to a CD-Drive. So, in effort to fix it, they made it worse. Now, you have to go through all these steps to back up your file. I just now copy/paste my quicken files to my disk.

Customer service is atrocious!!!! Because of my problems w/the sleep mode and CD writing, I called Quicken Tech Line. Yep, that's right, in India. Don't get me wrong, I don't have problem w/tech help in India (well, yes I do), but I do have an issue when I'm having problems understanding what is being said by the Tech rep. Needless to say, nothing was fixed...still can't download to CD like I could w/Quicken 2003 and my computer still will not go into sleep mode....unbelievable.

I still think Quicken is a great product but I believe that all levels of management that released this product w/so many bugs should be fired. If I was CEO, jobs would be lost over this issue. I owned Quicken 2004 for over a month before the first revision came out. Again, Quicken has gone the way of other software companies...just get the product out and we'll fix the problems later. If you have Quicken 2003, don't upgrade. Keep w/it and hopefully, Quicken 2005 will be better. When they come out w/that product, I'll review it at that time.

Quicken has a hold on this niche but they will soon lose it fast if they continue this trend. Loyal users like myself are quick to leave once we feel that Intuit no longer gives us products we expect from them. Quicken had better work very hard on Quicken 2005 and get input from consumers.
