Rating: Summary: Electronic Filing fails on WIN98 SE systems with IE 6 Review: I've been using this software for several years and have been very pleased up until this year. When I attempt to electronic file it fails with a message that "Connection was reset by the host". I used the TurboTax support web site and the live support. Neither of these offered a solution that allowed the e-filing to work on my WIN98SE IE 6 system. All of their suggestions were for IE 5.5. Looks like I'll be mailing my return instead of e-filing due to this TurboTax 2001 bug.
Rating: Summary: At last -- good tax software, right price, simple to use Review: I've criticized TurboTax for five years (since it bought Personal Tax Edge for TurboTax). It has taken since 1997 for Intuit Software to finally produce a simple to use, fairly priced, clean federal tax software program. They finally did it. This is a good tax software product. It is free of the bells, whistles, other nitwittery, and intrusive on-screen product advertisements of past years. Unless this is your first year completing your federal income tax on a computer and need hand holding, buy this not the deluxe version of Turbo Tax and buy the all-states version (January 27th) of Turbo Tax as well. (The $... tax software is exactly the same minus a talking narrator and lots of extraneous nonsense.) The federal and state integration (at least for PA) is perfect. Don't order the state version on-line from intuit as prompted ... If you buy both federal and state versions from Amazon you'll save a lot of postage and handling costs. TurboTax and a good computer makes tax form preparation for e-filing or print and mail a snap. All tax forms and tax preparation guidance is included. Integration with Fidelity data is perfect - at last.
Rating: Summary: Rats! Review: I've used Turbo Tax for 7 years, but 2001 was probably the last. I'd carefully kept Internet Explorer off my computer - no easy feat! Then, I install TurboTax 2001 and it installs IE! No asking if I wanted it, no "cancel" button, just a program I didn't want. (Which incidentally [fouled] up my internet connection.) But that's not all. While running, Turbo Tax splashes advertisements for all kinds of garbage on the screen. I don't know about you, but I find doing taxes unpleasant enough without having to plow through supurflous adverts. Maybe they should charge a little more up front and quit the bogus hucksterism.
Rating: Summary: What a deal! Review: If you're still paying an accountant to do your taxes, you're getting ripped off. Use what the pros are using. Get this now and complete your return in record time. I have been using this product for years and it's amazing. File electronically, and you'll have your refund (if applicable to your tax situation) in a matter of days, not months. Bring it on and get it done right. Hey Uncle Sam! Game on.
Rating: Summary: A really pathetic product Review: Ive used Kiplinger's program for three years now on three different machines with no problems and consistently good results. Today, I purchased Turbo Tax 2001 by mistake (really, I didnt look closely and just tossed it into my cart). After completely finishing my taxes (two hours) I saved to a diskette and decided to print at a later date. When I went to open my saved tax return.....nothing. The diskette is fine, everything else on it is fine, but my tax return is COMPLETELY GONE! Nice job Intuit. Im out [the money], a trip to the store (again) and two awful hours of filing my tax return. Is this, easy, fast, or powerful tax help? I certainly think not. Never again will I buy an Intuit product.
Rating: Summary: Couldn't be easier! Review: So long, H&R Block! With this software, I did my taxes in less than an hour, sent the forms off pronto and got my rebate back within 3 weeks! Put me on the list for Turbo Tax 2002 --- I'll definitely be buying it!
Rating: Summary: fantastic Review: They make doing your taxes so easy....I am sorry I ever paid for someone else to do them!
Rating: Summary: The Only Way to Do Your Taxes Review: This is my fourth year using Quicken TurboTax and it will be my second year using the state tax version. I'm sold on it. I can't imagine going back to pen and paper to do taxes. The program takes you step-by-step through the tax process by asking you questions about the various sections of the forms. It also prompts you to make you remember about things that may have slipped you mind, like other deductions. And, it makes suggestions for deductions that you may not have thought about. At the end of the process you can print out the forms for mailing in the traditional format or in a format that's easy for the IRS computers to read. In addition, you can opt to file electronicly. The help section IS very helpful. It actually makes sense of the rules and instructions for filing your taxes and explains the relevant sections of the tax code in easy to understand language. My one suggestion is that you have all your papers with you before you start the process. You can, of course, save your work and come back to finish or edit it, but it is a pain to be half way through and remember that your mortgage statement is two floors away.My advice: Don't do your taxes without it.
Rating: Summary: Does the job Review: This is the first time I have used Turbo Tax. My returns aren't real complicated and previously I did everything by hand.... I was skeptical after reading the complaints some reviewers had, but went ahead anyway since my situation should be pretty straightforward. Conclusion: I am glad I purchased this product. It led me through the entire process, asked relevant questions, put everything in the right place, and printed my return and supporting schedules. It also saved me some tax dollars (much more than the purchase price) by pointing out a deduction I hadn't thought about. It was soooo nice not to have to deal with all the frustrations associated with doing the return by hand! Note: I bought only the Federal version. I live in California and think it is a waste of time to buy the state version unless you have a very complex situation. For most people it is an easy matter to follow the California forms and transfer the info from your federal return. I plan on purchasing the 2002 edition, unless our government gets wise and reforms the tax system to get rid of all the politcal special interest greed that makes doing taxes so convoluted. So in other words, I plan on purchasing the 2002 edition.
