Summary: A must have!
Review: As a first time user, in 45 minutes I had the program loaded, updates downloaded and my taxes done. It was very simple and guided me through all the write-offs I needed (house, car, work, moving, etc.) It is well worth the money!!! I noticed that I really only needed the federal turbo tax and then I could easily do state taxes on my own.

Summary: Turbotax For The Web? YES! ; Turbotax cd-rom NO!
Review: Both Turbotax for the web and the Turbotax cd-rom are exactly the same product. I found the software user-friendly. The tips very helpful, (did you know the cost of this product is tax-deductible?), and filing my taxes considerably less stressful than paper filing. It's more of a personal preference. When trying to decide which way to go, I factored in time and cost of each option. With the cd-rom you pay for all your products before hand, (federal, state, e-file for federal, e-file for state), and wait for a refund. You have to wait at least 10 weeks for your money back and from some reviews that's not even guranteed. I don't know about you but I can barely wait for my tax refund! The alternative is the website. You don't have to install any software, download any forms, your information is filed on a secure website and you pay for your federal & state e-filing at one time. Much cheaper. Less time consuming. If you come back next year, your information is stored and easily retrievable. (Just don't forget your password.) Again, it's a personal preference, but to me it's more cost and time efficient through the website.

Review: error's downloading......better to get the CDROM until Amazon figures this one out...regardless of who's end is the problem, the website should be informative enough to prevent any issues or problems in downloading.

Review: For the third consecutive year, I purchased TurboTax for my family tax software. As it brings forward much of the data from the previous year, it makes data entry quicker, certainly a good move towards guaranteeing repeat business, and th single reason I purchased TurboTax rather than a competitive product. That said, my beef with the latest, Year 2001 version, has to do with its inclusion of many screens of video files discussing the latest tax laws and implications for all. Two points here - from the data taken from my income status, it is clear that parts of the tax laws do not apply to me. Does TurboTax then skip these sections? Not on your life; I should just be impressed that software created to bring organization from chaos can do so, and click through all the excess. Oh by the way, save your file often. My computer locked up twice on me (PIII 550 machine operating on Win98) attributed by microsoft explorer as due to the video, though none were being asked to run at the time. I buy tax software to simplify a distasteful process. Lately, TurboTax is bringing unneeded complexity back to the process.

Summary: Simple interface - walks you through the whole process!
Review: Having used Turbo Tax for the past few years, I can't see why anyone would want to fill out forms manually. Granted my tax situation is not that involved, I can usually have the software complete my entire Federal 1040 form in about an hour. For repeat users, a lot of information is retrieved from last year's returns (assuming you're on the same computer) which saves a considerable amount of typing. And the forms are sent directly to your printer when done. Just fold them and send them to the IRS.
This year (tax year 2001), electronic filing is made even easier with the option built into the software. There's even a rebate that Quicken offers for those who wish to pay to e-file which offsets the cost entirely.
If you decide to purchase this software then be prepared for Quicken to attempt to sell/push other products on you. There will even be a few desktop icons that appear after you install the software. And an additional folder will be added to your "Favorites".

Review: I downloaded the product and had my taxes done by the end of day. Watch out for the rebate text file to get your free electronic filing rebate-- use the icon on your desktop to print and send in after you file.

Summary: turbotax.com is quicker & easier
Review: I find that doing my taxes at www.turbotax.com to be just as easy as doing it with software. No worries about getting a "free filing" after a rebate. It's much easier to do your taxes safely online at their website, doing federal AND state and paying them an electronic filing fee in one easy payment. Plus..you don't have to order/buy the software, load it use it and then buy another program next year, install it etc. The website will even import last years info when you log in the following year.
