Review: Even though I did have to get used to the environment, this is the one project that I use everyday and highly recommend to those who do not wish to spend millions of dollars. This is the one product where you can use multi-platforms for important presentations (anywhere from Web Page Design to Word Processing To Graphics To Internet Use including E-mail To Spreadsheets/Databases). You can also write a friend and export the file to be read by MS Word. Highly Recommended!

Review: This application can do all the important stuff of larger costlier applications and it looks better, it is more intuitive, and it is logical. It also does things the expensive behemoths can not do. It is easier to learn.

Review: why buy Microsoft office when we have sun's StarOffice? I am doing all my office work with this software. I really, do not need Microsoft office (which is too expensive) The only problem with it is the lack of some language extensions, I hope it will have some Hebrew support in the next verion.

Review: Great decision.Excellent sneaky way to build up something against customer's kidnapping from microsoft. Suite needs better and more promotion. I look forward to buy it or download it asap. It would be great to have in spanish for my people at the company.

Review: Wow! What a relief to have a robust alternative to the dominant business application. StarOffice not only provides fully functional tools, such as word processing, presentations, and spread sheet, it also is delightfully easy to use. The transition from MS Office to StarOffice was swift and painless. But the really amazing feature of this superior product is the price! When you can get a business application suite equal to (and even better than in some features) MS Office and save over $400, you don't need to have a PhD and a cost/benefits analysis in hand to figure out which route to take.

Review: StarOffice 5.2 from SunMicroSystems is the best productivity suite I have used yet. I own MS Office 97 and have used Corel's office but I have chosen to use StarOffice 5.2. It comes with a robust word processor, spreadsheet, presentation program, events and task scheduler. If you don't have the $250-$400 to shell out for MS, download StarOffice 5.2 for free and get an office suite that's second to none and it's completely compatible with all the other major office suites. I have many programs on my computer but if I could only keep one, it would be StarOffice. It does just about everything! Did I mention it's free! Thanks Sun.

Review: With its price, interoperablility with MS office, and platform independence - you can't beat this product. Now I can work on documents at work, and continue them at home on Linux. You need a day to get accustomed to the environment, but its easy sailing thereafter.

Review: Star Office Suite 5.2 is a Microsoft Office Suite compatible package for all of us out here who cannot afford the high price of Office 97 or 2000. As an educator who is using the Star Office Suite on all of my computers in my classrooms, I can endorse this software from Sun as an affordable alternative to the expensive liscensing of Microsoft Office suites. And the really cool thing: you can copy if for FREE! The first thing I tested was whether or not my Word and PowerPoints were compatible and the second thing I tested was whether or not the same type of documents created with the Star Office suite would be compatible with the Microsoft Office Suite. The answer to both: YES!

Review: Since I first got Star Office 5.1 I have been awaiting the development of Star Office 5.2. My wait was well worth it. 5.2 is more user friendly than it's previous version. I installed it on Red Hat 6.1 and it went right in without any problems. I opened it up and was able to immediately go to work developing a word document. The menu's are laid out well and it's easy to find all the text editing features. ( I have had one problem finding out how to change the default margins - but that will come with a bit more investigation) Along with a great word processor is a whole suite of other great things such as the spread sheet, presentation program and scheduler. Star Office has made a great office suite, for very little money and it works on Linux, Windows, Sun Sparc and Unix. Who else can make that claim! There's now no reason not to dump that high priced office product sitting on your windows machine for Star Office at a fantastic price. And yes, it imports and exports to MS Word documents.
