Summary: An excellent office software
Review: I like the PDF publishing function, very straightforward. WordPerfect office offers all the tools I need and easy to manage. The most important part is WordPerfect office is fully compatible with MS Office and able to convert all the files, better than staroffice. Other capabilities, like XML and webpage editing, are powerful.BTW, it's cheap, compared to Micor$oft.

Summary: No image preview in this version
Review: I own both Wordperfect 9 and 11 and find that 9 is superior. Apparently in Wordperfect 11, Corel revamped the way the software interfaces with printers so all of the features of my printer (a new model Hewlet Packard Laserjet) do not work without going through several steps in the page setup. Further, Wordperfect 11 freezes up if one uses the latest printer drivers and only works with older versions of drivers. Plus, I bought the product with the understanding that it automatically converts batches of old wordperfect files. I have many documents in wordperfect 4.2 and 5.1. However, Wordperfect 11 does not convert batches of old files in 4.2 and 5.1. Other than above, the software is fine but you may as well stick to version 9 which is fabulous.

Summary: A prolific writer and published author speaks
Review: I purchased this product hoping that Corel would finally have updated critical areas of WordPerfect's interface, fixed the frequent fatal bugs, and improved its overall performance. Instead, the first thing I noticed was the EXTREMELY slow application launch time of WordPerfect 11; its default configuration, makes it a slow overall performer and a huge system resources hog. The next thing I noticed was that various postscript (Type 1) fonts still fail to work with WordPerfect (e.g., ITC ZapfDingbats); this has been a major bugaboo since at least version 8. (WordPerfect also continues to install its own proprietary fonts, and its overall font handling remains non-standard for Windows platforms.) I contacted Corel's technical support, and they confirmed the existence of the bug, AND they don't know if they'll get around to fixing it! The saga continues. I exported various small documents from Lotus Word Pro 9.7 in an effort to get book styles, upon which I rely as an author, into WordPerfect 11 efficiently. These documents import into Microsoft Word XP acceptably. Not so in Corel's WordPerfect 11; the application constantly crashed while I was trying to fix the imported styles. Consequently, I tried saving the documents to WordPerfect 7 format from Lotus Word Pro 9.7, something that I should have done from the start. (WordPerfect's file formats have not changed since version 6.) The problem was not quite so bad when opening the WordPerfect 7 version of my Word Pro documents, BUT page margins, particularly in the footnote area, were bizarrely misaligned--and there was absolutely no way to fix the misalignment. And yes, WordPerfect 11 continued to crash-again and again. Then I tried to create the paragraph styles that I needed manually in a new document. And guess what? This heavyweight wordprocessor is nearly INCAPABLE of doing certain kinds of basic footnote formats that are easily accomplished within Lotus Word Pro; additionally, once the formats are more or less achieved, WordPerfect CANNOT maintain them automatically in additional footnote paragraphs. For example, while I was able to finally, after hours of tinkering, figure out a way to make a hanging indent-style footnote that actually looked great for the first paragraph, as soon as I hit enter to add a second paragraph to the footnote, the left indent was misaligned! To fix it, I had to insert an indent manually and then a tab at the start of the second paragraph. This should be childs' play, but WordPerfect 11 makes it a hassle. There are more serious issues. Corel advertises WordPerfect's real-time preview capabilities. What Corel doesn't tell you, however, is that none of the real-time preview capabilities function while editing existing text or paragraph styles; instead, the user is treated to a Reveal Codes window pane and several other dialogues that are at best cryptic, and very klunky to use. What about WordPerfect 11's built-in Help system? Not only has Corel changed WordPerfect 11's approach to the PerfectExpert, by making it an HTML pane with a few links and forward and back arrows-so that one can no longer enter a language-based query, but Corel's technical writers have emasculated what was already a pretty poor set of regular help files. Now when one uses Help to try to learn how to do something, much of the time all it displays is a statement or two bragging that WordPerfect 11 can do this and can do that and has this feature and that feature, but guess what? The Help files DO NOT TELL THE USER HOW TO ACTUALLY DO THOSE THINGS! Also, the help files lack definitions for common formatting items and terms. For example, what is a "decimal tab"? NOTHING! I am generally a very strong technical writer. I have been a senior software developer and architect since the 1970s. And last, but certainly not least, I am a long-time user of several heavy-duty wordprocessing applications. I came to Corel's WordPerfect 11 expecting to find a cutting-edge wordprocessor with robust long-document capabilities. What I have stumbled into instead is perhaps the clunkiest text formatting approach I have ever encountered in ANY wordprocessor. Also, the product remains highly unstable, and to boot, its feature set-with few exceptions (e.g., indexing)-and formatting capabilities are inferior to a little known but vastly easier to use rival-Lotus Word Pro. I don't use Microsoft Word because it is a basket-case to try to use for any kind of serious long-document work. I was considering giving up my long time use of Lotus Word Pro due to some performance problems of its own when it comes to long-document work. However, before using WordPerfect 11, I had NO IDEA just HOW GOOD I HAVE HAD IT with Lotus Word Pro; it not only continues to put Microsoft Word to shame when it comes to usability and often features, but Word Pro makes WordPerfect 11 look like a dinosaur ready to have its bones picked clean by the vultures soaring overhead. I'd like to see Corel thrive and prosper, but this little piggy just will not fly. Moreover, the changes between WordPerfect 11 and 10 really are relatively minor, as was the case between 10 and 9. In fact, the stability of 11 is NO BETTER. Corel has had years to update the product. Yet it remains incapable of offering real-time previews where they are needed most-the editing of styles. It's interface is obscure and difficult to use, making it a time waster. ... Vote with your dollars. ....

Summary: Consider skipping this upgrade
Review: I upgraded from WP 8 and, after installing and using WP 11, I went back to WP 8. Biggest problem is that the upgrade is not seamless. For example, WP 11 does not fully support Corel Addressbook--they expect you to use Microsoft Outlook for your addressbook. If you want to continue to use Corel Addressbook, you get a scaled-back version of it which isn't as useful as the Version 8 Addressbook. Also, I had problems with some document conversion issues. On the whole, if I had to do this again, I would not buy this product.

Summary: Very Good, let's hope it gets better
Review: I've been using WordPerfect for several years now, and I am very happy with WPO11, Professional Edition. Anyone looking for a reasonably-priced office suite could do no better than WPO11, for now. That said, there are some problems, that I hope version 12 or later will address, especially the Publish to PDF feature. Feature for feature, WPO leaves M$ Office for dead, at a fraction of the cost. It has some problems, but is a MUCH better option than the market leader. Go for it!

Summary: The most stable release in years
Review: I've been using WordPerfect since the early Windows versions and this is the most stable release I've ever seen. They may not have added a long list of new features, but they tightened up and perfected the features that were already there. I don't need a lot of new features--I just want the features to work and I want the software to be stable. Not to say that there aren't significant new features. The Document Map feature alone is worth the upgrade. Not to mention the integration with MS Outlook (document tracking, address book) and improved XML capabilities. There is a new conversion utility that allows you to batch convert your files and don't forget that WP has the most comprehensive list of conversion filters on the market. They added the legal tools that were available in the Legal edition of WP8 - thank you Corel! And if you haven't used RealTime Preview, you haven't seen the coolest feature in the program. They expanded it in WP11 so it works in more places than ever. Take my word for it, once you've used it, you'll wonder how you ever got along without it. WP is the most cost-effective, easy-to-use, customizable word processor there is. Always was, always will be.

Summary: They Ran Out of Ideas!
Review: Well, what can I say, a new version that's all? WordPerfect the word processor has been a respected program for many years, but some of the features it presently supports are just ridiculous and absurd. WordPerfect 5.1 emulation mode is not very amusing, its not nostalgic either, just a plain waste of money. If you are someone who is yearning to use that mode of WordPerfect, get WordPerfect 5.1, don't waste your money to get limited, useless features that no one is using or getting any advantages from. The legal documents are always excellent for producing, documents that pertain that area. Quattro Pros features are still simple and no different from prior versions, the only feature that's enticing is the charts, and that's all for Quattro Folks. Presentations I always say is the killer app in the suite, the presentations are inviting, and sound effects are more catchy and powerful than PowerPoint, but not in the animation department. Corel Central features the same Outlook Express interface that is just not catchy and not worth switching to. Paradox is not easy and as integrated with other Database programmes such as Access. But Office 11 does feature satisfactory file compatibility with Microsoft Office and other Office suites such as Star Office and Open Office. For people who do not require much from their productivity applications WordPerfect Office is an excellent easy choice at an average price. For businesses who demand the most from their applications for connecting people, places, ideas and information, Microsoft Office 2003 seems more valuable and more flexible and more feature rich for the Enterprise because of all the tightly integrated applications that Microsoft Office 2003 compromises of. For small businesses WordPerfect Office only offers a portion of the incremental features users need. Microsoft Office 2003 on the other hand delivers with Outlook 2003 with such features as Business Contact Manager, which allows business to control their customer information more smoothly. A more easy to use interface that's more productive with the reading pane.

Summary: No image preview in this version
Review: When I tried to insert an image into a document in WP 11 I got the error message "no viewer available." Several hours of repairing, uninstalling and reinstalling, and a phone call to Corel support later, I find out that this is NOT an error. WP used to include QuickView Plus, but Corel was not able to bundle it with WP 11. So there are no image viewers inside the program. If you work with images, beware!

Summary: BETTER THAN YOU-KNOW WHAT
Review: WordPerfect is simply better than the Big Alternative. It is simpler to use and it works intuitively. It also treats you like an adult: for example, you can place a button on your toolbar to close without saving or being prompted to save, which the Other Word Processor will not allow. Its handling of columns, margins, tables, and in fact almost everything else is easier and offers more choides. Above all, Reveal Codes (of which I understand the Opposition now provides a pale copy; imitation is the sincerest form of flattery!) solves problems over which you could otherwise scratch your head for ever. I know, I know, it is not the most popular choice. So leave the Big W to the lemmings, don't follow the crowd, go with what's Perfect!

Summary: The WP11 Previewer Crashes The Program
Review: WP 11's previewer crashes the program every time you try to preview a document created with WP10 or earlier, or if you try to preview an MS Word document. WP 12 is excellent. WP 10 is stable also. WP 11 should never have been shipped with its defective previewer. I was forced to reinstall WP 10 for day-to-day use. I used WP 11 strictly to create PDFs. WP 12 has excellent stability and better functionality than WP11. WP 11 is a defective program. I should be given a refund for the money I spent to buy WP11. Skip 11 and go right to 12. The WP12 demo is available now, and WP 12 ships later in the month. (I've been using WP since 5.0 in 1989)
