Product Info Reviews

Description:

NetWare 5.1 is a collection of services and technologies to move your enterprise to the Internet, including a network operating system.

The features include the fully integrated NDS eDirectory, an enhanced version of Novell Directory Services (NDS). Also included is IBM WebSphere Application Server 3.0 for NetWare, Standard Edition. This Java-based Web-application server can absorb network traffic from your Web server and can be accessed by your NetWare login. WebSphere applications are secured by NDS, which supplies multiple layer security features, including Novell International Cryptographic Infrastructure, passwords encrypted over Secure Sockets Layer, RSA private key/public key encryption, Secure Authentication Services, smart cards, and X.509v3 certificates. In addition, WebSphere Studio (Entry Edition), a collection of Java development tools, helps you create and enhance dynamic Web pages.

NetWare Management Portal (NMP) is a Netware 5.1 browser-based tool with which you can manage your NetWare 5.1 servers and file system through a Web browser, from any location on your network. Some of the tasks you can perform with NMP include mounting and dismounting volumes, monitoring system resources, browsing the NDS tree, and automatically performing many other routine management tasks. NetWare 5.1 also includes ZENworks Starter Pack and ConsoleOne, two administrative tools you can use to deploy applications and manage your network.

NetWare 5.1 supports all open Internet standards, including Lightweight Directory Access Protocol (LDAP) 3, an Internet protocol you can use to access directory information from many different directories. NetWare 5.1 also contains expanded support for HTTP and WebDAV. Using WebDAV, you can also build Web-based administration tools for specific components of your network, such as printing.

The NetWare 5.1 Server Plus 5 Connections kit is required to license your server and provide five connection licenses. The kit includes the following:

  • CDs that have server/client software and documentation.
  • A license diskette that has license certificates for the Server Plus 5 software (one certificate has a server base license, the other has five connection license units)
  • An installation manual
  • A registration card
