Rating: Summary: Best Bang for the buck Review: After going to best buy to listen to some of the selection of speakers they had, I finally narrowed it down to the Bose 301's and the Yamaha speakers. Both systems had me going, but the esthetic appeal of the speakers drove me to them. They have great sound and ... they are well worth the money. Just so the reader is aware, these speakers were compared to the Bose 301V speakers [which are $200.00 more per] pair.

Rating: Summary: Not bad at all, considering the price Review: I got mine for a mind-boggling fifty bucks at Best Buy online, and have been quite happy with them. I use them mainly for watching DVDs and the occasional CDs. For dedicated and discriminating music listening, I probably would recommend spending about four to eight times the price if you are especially picky about sound quality. The mids are not very well-defined, and the highs can be a bit harsh at really high volumes. Otherwise, these are more than adequate for most people. With an impressive 91db of sensitivity, they "sound" louder and more alive than most speakers 2-3 times their price, and deliver impressive bass, probably the result of the enclosure being quite deep. Oh, and one other note: these are a bit oversized for the "bookshelf" category of speakers. If you really are planning to use them in a cramped position, you may want to look at the dimensions listed and use a measuring tape to make sure you have adequate room.

Rating: Summary: still going strong. Review: I have a older version of these speakers (10+ish years) and they are still going strong. Despite me having mishandel them in my younger more youthful days. They still sound great and work great. I plan to upgrade to these more mordern versions some day. There are speakers that sound better but cost much more. I'm quite happy with them for the price i paid years ago and would pay again to update.
Rating: Summary: Features seem impressive BUT horrible sound Review: These speakers are currently on demo at many Best Buys. I was interested because the features were impressive (3 way, large woofer, looks nice), especially considering the price. Plus, they were Yamahas. However, I was very disappointed with the sound. Everything sounds really "harsh". Probably because the cabinet is extremely thin (can almost be used as a drum!). The bass hardly comes through. The cheaper Sony sounded better. Don't buy these before listening to them.
Rating: Summary: GREAT SPEAKERS!! Review: You can't judge the sound of these while standing in a Best Buy store as another review stated. These speakers are excellent for the price and outperform many other speakers that are more money. I have a pair of Wharfedale 7.2's and the Yamahas sound much better.
