Summary: Don't buy Winfax
Review: Reading through the reviews, I saw many, many folks had big time problems installing this package. This was especially true for WinXP users.

Using Google I found an OEM CD copy of Version 10.3 for $15 + s/h. At that price I figured I could risk trying it since some reviewers had very good results.

Well, it went on my Dell Dimension 8250 with Win XP Pro without a hitch.

My only comment is: before installation (1) clean out any and all previous versions from your computer; (2) shut down antivirus and firewall applictions (and any other easy to close applications).

It's a great package that does it all.

Summary: Opps...retraction on that last recommendation
Review: The new Norton Systemworks Pro 2003 no longer includes Winfax. The previous version does, but it won't work with XP. Oh well...

Summary: Great on Win 2000, Terrible on Win XP
Review: The previous reviewer was incorrect. I ran this program on Win 2000 and it worked great. I can't even get it to install correctly on Win XP. I haven't explored the version 10.0 versus 10.02 issue yet.

Summary: Get HylaFAX instead
Review: This product [is bad...I needed to send my resume by fax to a few places and my server is currently offline, so I tried WinFax. While the very basic things work, there are a lot of business features that just do not exists. Such as, what if you want to manually send your faxes and hold them in a queue until you are ready? There is no way to do this with this software.

It looks like this product was released in 1999 or something. It is now 2002. No updates and no upgrade? Clearly this is not a product that is very interesting to Symantec. Then again, fax is a technology that is no longer necessary due to eMail.

Summary: Worst program I ever bought !
Review: This program is by far the worst I've ever purchased. It clearly does not install/work as advertised with Windows XP. Tech support couldn't help and in fact screwed up my registry while trying. Although Symantec agreed to refund my money (supposedly in 8 wks), they wanted to keep the $29.95 they charged me to talk to tech support. I argued that if the program worked as advertised, I wouldn't have needed their tech support -- and certainly shouldn't be out of $30 at the end of the day. I'm waiting to hear from the "Consumer Relations" department. No relief in sight for my damaged registry!!!

Summary: Don't Buy if You Have DSL
Review: This program is virtually unuseable if you intend to use it on the same phone line that brings your DSL. This is true even if you place a filter on the connection to your modem. This is made clear on Symantec's support pages, but is excluded from its promotional material. An unethical practice in my opinion. Given Amazon's own uncomplimentary review, one wonders why they sell this product.

Summary: All Puff
Review: This program was very difficult to setup for faxing with Act 2000. I live in an area that has two area codes for local dialing. This program along with Act 2000 which claims to do an area code overlay doesn't work and the instructions (which are not clearly written)will confuse you even more. Forget, customer support each company blames the next. Act blames WinFax Pro, WinFax Pro blames Windows and so on and so on and so on. After six months of trial and error, I still have mostly errors. Area code rules, overlay's etc. don't work.

Summary: AND it doesn't work for BROADBAND!!
Review: Total disappointment!
I send lots of faxes as part of my job-seeking process, and when I read about this software I thought it would be particularly useful for saving paper and not using up the ink on my printer, not to mention that faxes get attention faster than an e-mail does, but I was totally disappointed that it DOESN'T work (symantec admitted so on their website, too!) with broadband internet connections. Are these people DELIBERATELY trying to make their products unusable or WHAT?!!

Summary: Think Carefully
Review: We use this product in a small office environment. I decided to purchase it based on the fax sharing feature; the idea of having a fax server-like system at a relatively low cost was appealing. My assessment of the product is mixed. For the user it is simple to learn and use, anyone who has used Outlook Express should be able to pick up the basic features in a matter of minutes. And the ability to log and archive faxes instead of losing them in the paper shuffle has proved invaluable. For the administrator, however, expect to be challenged. Many of the more polished features don't work under Win 2000, and I've lost count of how many times I've come in to work in the morning to find the program crashed. To ease the transition for the office, I originally left our old fax machine on line as a backup. After 6 months of using this app, I still can't turn the old fax off. I would strongly suggest thinking carefully about your needs before purchasing this product.
