Description:
Webroot's Child Safe lets you discreetly monitor sites visited, files viewed, and keystrokes entered. Child Safe even takes periodic screen shots of your system, letting you see exactly what your child was looking at. It will also block sites, although only the URLs you specify. If an attempt is made to visit a site on the blocked list, the browser simply shuts itself down. Child Safe runs completely in the background, and is only called up when the designated key combination is pressed. Even then, a password must be entered before any changes can be made to the program. The interface is simple enough to manipulate. The Web Activity Log tracks sites visited and e-mails sent. The Keystroke Log tracks all of the characters entered on the keyboard, letting you keep tabs on anything said in an online chat room. And the Screenshot Log displays all the captures taken by Child Safe. The default is once every 15 minutes, but you can set Child Safe to snap them as often as every minute. Child Safe can also be set to automatically send these activity logs to any e-mail address. So, if you're at work and the kids are at home, you can be kept up-to-date on their Web activity. Child Safe can also notify users that they are being monitored, popping up a window when Internet activity is detected, for example. After all, just letting your kids know that you're aware of their online activity will most likely be enough motivation to curtail any unsavory visitations. --J. Curtis
