Rating: Summary: Works great but watch the installation Review: PCsync 3.0 works great -- as advertised. However, installation isn't quite as easy as advertised (is it ever?). Here's what happened as I connected two laptops running Windows 2000: After intially installing the software, I found that the two computers would not communicate with each other through the serial port. I went through all of the troubleshooting actions suggested in the documentation and came up empty. Out of desperation, I uninstalled the software from one of the machines and tried to do what PCsync refers to as a "remote install." By doing this, I realized that the machines were unable to access the COM1 ports through the serial cables. The COM1 port (on both machines) was busy because of the Palm Desktop HotSync program running in the system tray (bottom right of Windows). I closed Palm on both computers and PCsync instantly worked. One would think that such a simple program conflict would be detected by the program (our outlined in the troubleshooting documentation), but it wasn't.
Rating: Summary: Wow! That bad!?! Review: Very frustrating experience. After spending money bucks for this piece of junk and wasting hours-and-hours, I threw it back in the box, never to use it again. I have a pretty simple situation... "old" PII/233 running W95, new PC running XP. Simply wanted to transfer a bunch of MP3s, photo files, and a few other miscellaneous data files. It took three hours just to get it configured and working. Once it finally did connect (which it only did sporadically), it was SO SLOW in transfering the files, I simply gave up. Of course, you need to be a master dective to find a phone number to call for support.... After using the extremely weak manual, I went on line to find help, but found nothing more than the manual information. The error messages are cryptic and the online help is dismal. And, I could not find a phone number to call. So, do what I did... simply burn a bunch of CDs and call it a day... it will save you $ and hours of frustration!!!
Rating: Summary: PCSync 3.0 Buyers Beware !!! Review: Wasted 8 hours trying to make PCsync 3.0 work. Failed repeatedly to make serial connection. Tried everything in support files, nothing worked. This program setup is not easy and not for the average user. Ended up transferring all files to new computer using CD/RW. Should have done that first, would have saved a day.
