BUYER BEWARE - CRITICAL SHUTDOWN ISSUE

*Last year I bought PCSync 2.0 and upgraded recently to 3.0. Although the product does what I need it to, I found there to be a few too many glitches with the item. For example, as a result of my loading PCSync onto my computer, it won't shut down all the way. This is the same problem that could be found on the earlier 2.0 version. I must now manually shut my computer off each and every time I use it. I attempted to rectify this situation but found that the technical support folks at PCsync/Laplink are the absolute worst. They have a huge attitude and are very bitter. And to add insult to injury, they don't seem to have very much knowledge in regard to their own products. It goes without saying that they were unable to rectify the shutdown issue. If you don't mind the inconvenience of having to perform a manual shut down each and every time you turn off your computer, then get the product. However, chances are you'll find this to be a big pain in the rear. Combine this with what is stated in other reviews on this website about installation problems and you'll agree that it would be best to purchase a different product.

Summary: PCSync 3.0 Buyers Beware !!!
Review: After several attempts (and nearly 6 hours) of trying to create a serial connection to enable file transfers from an old computer (operating under Windows 98) to a new computer (Windows XP), I gave up frustrated and angry that a company could bring out such a poor product. In addition, the online product support was useless and there were no contact number to contact the manufacturer. A process that I was hoping to take an hour, has taken 6 hours to date without resolution - I would suggest that you stay away from this product!!!!

Summary: THE ANSWER TO ALL MY NEEDS!!!
Review: For the longest time I've been looking for a product that actually does what it promises, and PCsync does just that!
I have an old Windows 98 computer that has all of my family pictures, countless letters, and personal documents on the hard drive, and I've needed to transfer them all over to my new Windows XP laptop. I've seen the LapLink name in the file transfer genre for years, and I thought why not give them a try!
I purchased PCsync 3 at my local computer store, came home and loaded it on both of my computers. I then popped my USB cable into each computer, and before I knew it, I had a copy of all my files on both computers!!!
As if that didn't blow my mind, I played around with the migration wizard a little bit, and I know have all my personalized settings that were on my 98 computer on my XP, all with just a few little clicks of the mouse!!!
It's easy to see why Laplink has been in this game for so long, they're just the best at what they do!
Would I recommend PCsync? YES!!!

Summary: Incompatible with XP and USB
Review: Have spent many hours, unsuccessfully, trying to get this product to work on XP with LapLink's USB cable -- the only fast option, the other being a serial connection. Problems include getting scary blue-screen messages which bring down the whole operating system. LapLink was unable to help... Finally had to uninstall the whole thing and at least my PC has recovered.

Summary: magnificent migration
Review: I have had the opportunity now to both work and play with PCSync. It is a nimble, simple to use and very capable software package allowing data and application migration and easy file transfer over networks, between PC's and using the Internet.
I have transferred files, helped others with their computing tasks and even borrowed MP3 music files so that I could complete a copy of an out of print CD.
I have moved apps and files between my networked PC's with ease and also worked over the net with co-developers in a remote location.
The ability to transfer, play and catalog MP3 files are great features for one stop MP3 sharing and use. I have found this to be a really fun feature. It certainly takes the drudgery out of the process of building a great music collection.
I also believe it is the BEST migration tool for moving all your applications and data to Windows XP. And it's the ONLY migration product that keeps on giving AFTER the migration is done with its file sync and music mover features.
I recently helped my father with his PC migration to Windows XP. It was a snap!
PCsync is a great product and I recommend it highly for the inexperienced user or the cagey veteran!

Summary: It doesn't even make a good doorstop!
Review: I have worked with Laplink 95/3.1 and had a very good experience. So when upgrading my computer and operating program this was a natural to select for file transfer to the new computer. I spent many frustrating hours attempting to make it work. Requests to the on line help generated a reference to an on line article that was of no help. I have given up. This software would not recognize a connection with the provided cable between a Windows 98 Pentium II to a XP Home Edition Pentium IV.

Summary: didn't work
Review: I spend several hours with tech support trying to connect a Win XP desktop to a Win 98 laptop and it never worked. I formerly used version 1.52 and it did work, but was squirrelly (and not compatible with XP). Obviously no progress was made with 3.0. Plus, you can only access tech support via chat, so every time you reboot you lose them. Annoying. Bottom line -- PCSync is at best way too complicated for a consumer product.

Summary: Works fine!
Review: I use this product to synchronize files between my XP laptop and my windows 98 desktop over the house network. I have had no problems although it sometimes show conflicts where none seem to exist. Very helpful. A little difficult perhaps for those with less computer experience to use but otherwise great!

Summary: PCSync is the BEST for getting access to files from anywhre
Review: I was happily surprised when I noticed PCSync came with an MP3 manager (Music Mover)- doesn't matter where all my MP3's are scattered accross my hard drives, it finds them, organizes, and i can make play lists from it. Does the thinking for me. PCSync 3.0 ROCKS for allowing me access to my shared files from anywhere, using a web-browser with LapLink's Surfup web service (at no additional charge). With V3.0 I was able to upload files with Surfup, and it comes with it's on easy-to-use security. Very very cool.

Summary: Wow! That bad!?!
Review: PCsync 3.0 works great -- as advertised. However, installation isn't quite as easy as advertised (is it ever?). Here's what happened as I connected two laptops running Windows 2000: After intially installing the software, I found that the two computers would not communicate with each other through the serial port. I went through all of the troubleshooting actions suggested in the documentation and came up empty. Out of desperation, I uninstalled the software from one of the machines and tried to do what PCsync refers to as a "remote install." By doing this, I realized that the machines were unable to access the COM1 ports through the serial cables. The COM1 port (on both machines) was busy because of the Palm Desktop HotSync program running in the system tray (bottom right of Windows). I closed Palm on both computers and PCsync instantly worked. One would think that such a simple program conflict would be detected by the program (our outlined in the troubleshooting documentation), but it wasn't.
