Summary: Save your money. This product is a [bad deal]
Review: I can't remember ever feeling this frustrated, disappointed ...by a software purchase. Advertised as being greatly improved over previous versions, the only real difference between this version and previous versions is the font.Worse yet, the product is filled with bugs that should have been fixed in earlier versions; amongst other problems, it is rife with ".dll" conflicts, causing even that most ubiquitous application -- MS Word to crash. In addition, several advertised features are just plain lies, including: "more user friendly cover sheets," "easier application of signature stamps," "easy installs."

And for the final insult, the [money] rebate they advertise is actually an upgrade only rebate, which means if you threw out your receipt from the version you've been using for the past five years, you are out of luck, and [money].

Now let's see if Symantec will honor their 60-day guarantee.

UPDATE: Symantec did refund my purchase price (but not shipping of course). I sent a fairly detailed letter with my refund request and got no response other than the refund. In my business, customer service is EVERYTHING and I would never let a dissatisfied customer go away angry.

Summary: A Waste of Time and Money
Review: I got Version 10.03 for Windows ME.
It wouldn't recognize my very popular 56K SupraMax fax/modem, and then it wouldn't uninstall. It's another piece of junk from our fine friends at Symantec.

Summary: Winfax trouble
Review: I have been using this product since winfax lite, (around 1995). Back then, windows was not as extensive and burdened with drivers and registry files. In theory, this is an excellent program, allowing an orderly record of all of your faxes ever sent. The unfortunate reality, is that this program will make your Windows PC behave as if it has a virus, and you will spend enormous amounts of time trying to find a virus and attempting to figure out why the system crashes whenever you try to do anything, most noteable, Microsft Word, and Dragon Naturally Speaking. Very few if any T/S people will be able to find a problem.

Be prepared to spend lots of downtime and time problem solving if you put this program on a PC running windows.

Summary: WinFax is great!
Review: I have been using WinFax Pro since 1998. It is the most convenient way to send and receive faxes without a fax machine. The upgraded look in 10.0 to the Outlook interface and Adobe viewer were great modifications.

Plus you really can't beat the price. No other fax application is as simple and easy to use. Combined with your scanner there is never a need to buy a stand alone fax machine again.

Summary: Made my Real Estate Career
Review: I have read some of the negative reviews, and I can only say that I have used the program successfully for 7 months on my machine running Windows 98 and it functions like a dream. This software is absolutely awesome. I'm used to staying organized using PC-based organization techniques (i.e. paperless). Once I started doing more and more simultaneous deals, the paperload would get unbearable. But now I use WinFax. I was hesitant to buy it based on the reviews, but I decided to give it a try, and I was not disappointed. Now when I get home, my computer has a flashing alert that I have received faxes. I can print only the ones that I decide that I need a hard copy of (and only the pages that I need a hard copy of). The program lets me email the faxes (therefore, no loss of resolution from refaxing) to other users with WinFax. Also, for those faxes that I have to send out that are not time-sensitive, I can schedule entire batches of after-hour faxes which don't tie up the phone line during the day. WinFax was definately worth every single penny that I spent.
I guess that if you are running a newer system that you heed the advice of those other reviewers and buy 10.2. But other than that, I would have no reservation in buying this software. Not only does it eliminate the never-ending desktop clutter of a fax machine but it also simplifies and digitally organizes the faxes.

Summary: Terrible Program
Review: I have used this program and earlier versions for nearly 10 years. I wish I never had. The later versions of the program have many, many serious bugs regardless of the operating system. The most perplexing thing is that these bugs have been known to Symantec for 5 or more years and they don't even fix them! For example, I just lost 100's of sent fax records from the message store, and there is no way to recover them. This program may be OK for an occasional fax, but business users should never buy this piece of garbage.

Summary: Avoid at all costs
Review: I purchased WinFax for use on a Thinkpad T23 running Windows 2000.
I'd had good experiences years ago with an earlier version and had
high hopes for this version. However, my hopes were quickly crushed.

When installed, it corrupts the macros used by Microsoft Word, causing
Word to crash on startup. There's a fix for this on the Symantec web
site if you make the correlation and are willing to wade through the
menus on the site, but I can't believe they'd ship a product with a
bug like this. If there were one product to test it with...

WinFax can be configured to answer the phone automatically.
Unfortunately, it continues to do this even when the option is
disabled. Very annoying (both to me and to the people who called
during the 2 days it took me to figure this out).

FAX transmission worked. However, FAX reception usually failed.
There are a number of suggestions for fixing this problem on the
Symantec site (they suggest that it's a hardware compatibility problem),
but my need for this product and my patience both
passed before I was able to get WinFax to work reliably.

Overall, this is one of the worst products I've ever used, with most
major functions failing to work correctly. This product is so bad that
it finally convinced me to abandon Windows in favor of Linux. Why pay
this much for a non-functional software when an equivalent donation in the
Linux community goes so much farther?

Summary: WinFax Pro Awful in my computer
Review: I purchased WinFax Pro 10 from Symantec directly. I had had a Win
Fax program in one of my old computers (years ago). I don't remember the version number. So I thought that this new version has to be as good as my old one.
I unfortunately downloaded the program after paying for it. My computer is now very slow, I have to keep doing ctrl, alt, del because the program and any other program on my desktop are unresponsive. This happened after I downloaded the WinFax Pro.
I went back to the company because I somehow lost the exe file.
You're not able to redownload your purchase. If you have not copied the program to disk or CD you're out of luck. I'm really sorry I bought it. The original product I had was wonderful.
Symantec doesn't have any "people skills".

Summary: The best software to have on hand
Review: I started out with the pc Basic fax, upgraded to the 9.0 version when I upgraded my computer and then upgraded again to the 10.0 version of Winfax. No matter which version, it's easy to use easy to install and very handy and helpful to have. I don't fax often but when I do I know I can rely on Winfax 10.0 to perform exactly as stated. And you don't need a manual or book to learn how to use it. The manual and instructions included in the program is all you really need.
I would like to add this statement from a previous or what another reviewer wrote: "Amazon states that 10.0 will work with Windows XP. Version 10.02 is required according to Symantec's own website."
My search shows not only does Amazon state 10.0 will work with windows xp, Symentec's own web site states the same thing. No where did I find that Symentec's website stated Version 10.02 is required for Windows XP. People do your own search in addition do to reading these reviews.

Summary: Buggy is a huge Understatement!
Review: I upgraded to Ver.10.02 so I could use it with Win XP. What a mistake! Microsoft Word crashes on loadup, and Act freezes and won't close. As soon as I uninstall WinFax Pro 10, everything returns to normal. Good Riddence!
Want Winfax for free? Get Norton Systemworks Pro Edition 2003. Winfax comes with it as one of many usefull utilities, and it dosen't cause any problems.
