Summary: good value but terrible user interface AND instructions
Review: For the price it's a good mp3 player as it comes with a car kit (which is how I'll use it) but it really has a terrible user interface. I consider myself pretty gadget smart but have not been able to switch between mp3 albums yet. The instructions that come with it are next to useless. Also has slow start up times. I might sell it and get an in-dash unit.

Summary: Okay but a real battery eater
Review: I have found the player to be excellent, when it comes to compatibility with CDs I burn. Never a problem. And it works great when connected via the cassette adapter provided with the unit. This is really handy and a great value. Just before I bought this, the cigarette lighter in my car broke. So I have to use lots of batteries. Figure on replacing batteries about every three hours.
If you are using this in your car, with an adapter, it'll work great.

Summary: Just go for it
Review: This is one of the best feature packed CD/MP3 players for it's price. No one comes even close.Except for the non-backlit LCD display, I could not find any cons in this. Excellent Sound, Car kit included, No Skipping at all when I run in my car. Loking for a budget priced player and no brand preference, just go for it. You will not repent.

Summary: Good for the price, but not fabulous
Review: I bought this player because I wanted to be able to play all my MP3s instead of burning 15 or so onto a CD-R. I chose this one because of the price. I had no idea what to expect, but so far the player has performed fine. I haven't had any problems with skipping (as other reviewers have reported) but I have noticed a few other problems: 1. The "Random" function that I use in MP3 mode is not exactly random. The player seems to compile a "random" list of songs but the list does not change- so while the songs aren't in their original order, I keep getting the same patterns of songs over and over again. This is what bothers me the most about the player. 2. I don't know if it's even possible to normalize raw MP3 files, but the MP3s aren't normalized, so the volumes vary greatly from song to song (which can be annoying). This probably isn't a problem with the player itself. 3. The sound quality with MP3s leaves something to be desired, but it's acceptable. All in all, the player is acceptable for its price, but if you're looking for perfection, look elsewhere.

Review: I've read that as 1st generation CD-MP3 players go, this is one of the best. After buying this unit twice, I have to say I'll wait until the technology improves. I purchased the sport version of this player (with the waist pack & water resistant casing). I used it 4-5 times a week while exercising for the last two months. Here are the problems I've encountered: first player bought 12/1/01, returned 12/27/01:
1. CD-R's - sound is good, pauses frequently for varying durations (up to 5 minutes) - ESP button blinks. When ESP is turned off, cd skips & cracks constantly - not listenable in this mode.
2. MP3's - sound not great - slow startup (processing) time, very frequent pauses, often stops running. ESP blinks continuously. Divides tracks in odd locations - sometimes a 5 minute song would be divided into 6 tracks - including the pause while it tries to read the next track (very frustrating).
3. CDA's (store bought CD's) - sound is good, pauses when batteries start to get low. Unfortunatly, I was able to get about 1-3 hours of listening time from 1 set of batteries.
4. Returned because volume dial malfunctioned. Decided to give this player one more try. second player bought 12/27/01, returned 2/6/02:
1. All of the above problems multiplied by 2. If Memorex can't make a consistant product, I will buy something else.
2. Battery door sometimes would come partially open throwing the CD off balance and causing the player to go into ESP (skip mode). I'm giving up on CD-MP3 player technology for awhile. There are way too many frustrating bugs out there that need to be worked out.

Summary: Bargin - Very happy with it
Review: I've had the MPD8507CP for several weeks now and like if very much. One of the best deals for an MP3 player even without the included car kit - you usually have to pay more for that.
I use it almost exculsively for playing MP3s on both CD-R and CD-RW disks. It takes about 10 to 20 seconds for it to start playing once you turn it on while it reads the directory structure and file names. Indexes songs by folders so you can group your tunes in different directories on your PC and copy them to a CD-R or CD-RW. Once in the player you can play them all or pick which folder to open. Songs are sorted by file name on the 4 line display. When the song begins playing it reads and displays ID3 Version 1.x tags( Album, Artist, Title only) and scrolls them across the screen.
If you put it in repeat mode you can play the whole CD or just a particular folder, song or random play. Some other modes: program play, intro play (first 10 sec of each song), song search by file name. Down sides:
The interface is a bit clunky and not very well thought out:ie which button to push when is sometimes confusing but you get used to it. Also, the FF/skip and RR/Review buttons are oposite of what you might expect (FF on the left and RR on the right so the arrows point towards each other).
I''ve read some reviews of complaints about skipping. The ESP feature is quite good (45 sec on Audio CD and 120 on MP3). The ESP logo flashes when it's doing its thing (ie: buffering a skip) so you can tell how well the laser is doing even if you don't hear the skip. I never had any problems with it running out of buffer before an audible skip but I wouldn't recommend jogging with it. Even slight tapping on the unit while it's playing will start using up your ESP buffer.
Another weakness is that there are just 5 preset equalizations (NORMAL,ROCK,CLASSIC,JAZZ), there is no control over the bass and treble, pick one and that's it.

Summary: What a terrible product!!!
Review: I just bought this one and should have listened to those that said bad thing about this product. I use Windows XP to burn MP3 onto the CD-RW disc and MPD8507CP refused to recognize the disc about 90% of the time. It kept reporting Disc Error and when it finely worked it skipped like crazy even though the unit was laying flat on the table. It plays regular CD 100% fine but I didn't buy this to play regular CDs. I am very disappointed with this MP3 player. I wish I could return this thing, I threw away the packaging. By the way, the packaging required you to have utility knife or scissors to rip open the package. Everything about this product is terrible. Avoid it at any cost unless you want to go through the trouble that I just described.

Summary: Little Bugger
Review: well i purchased the memorex mpd8507 almost 2 months back.. and it was troublesome turning it on in the begining.. there is some problem with it. it doesnt switches in cold weather.. for the anti skip protection its not very good but ok.. but the memorex has a major problem while reading CD's. my mp3 player refuses to play any CD .. it gives me a Disc Error..i've tried cleaning the lense and everything i could very well imagine to do with it.. its like a total waste for me.. so if any one can tell me why this mp3 player doesn't works in cold weather and why does it gives me a Disc Error on the MP3 cd's as well as on Audio Cd's

Summary: Happy with the 8507CP model!
Review: I picked up the 8507 model for myself after not getting one for Christmas and am very happy with it. The price was just right for my budget (at 79.99) and the included car kit was a 'bonus' as I don't have a CD player in my car. I haven't run into the skipping problem as mentioned in the earlier reviews and use it every morning on the treadmill ... nor have I learned/used all of the features as there are so many!! One thing I noticed while reading the instructions was that they mentioned the AC Adapter and showed the jack in which to plug it in. This model does not include an AC Adapter and goes on to state so later in the booklet. (??) I am not disappointed however, as I did not purchase this player so I can sit near an outlet to listen to my music!
