Summary: Simply the best out there...
Review: I recently purchased this player [from Fry's :-( ]. I had been on the fence as to which player to buy for over a month prior. I read C|Net's (or maybe it was ZDNet's) review of the RioVolt 250 as compared to similar products. I liked what I read and decided to go ahead and get it. I am so glad I did. The fact that the player recognizes id3 tags and playlists is very convenient: what's more it's fast. I was expecting a significant delay in reading the files, but it was none existent. The menu navigation on the player is simple yet the options are powerful.

I only have 2 complaints:
First, the headphones/ear buds are very uncomfortable (no biggie, just replace them).
Second, SonicBlue bundled its product with lousy software (at least for the PC, I can't speak for the iTunes for Mac). Why they included RealJukebox is beyond me. It is worthless and the readme instructs you to download WinAmp anyway. Once I cleared that up I was all set. Those are the only 2 drawbacks I've found, but they are minor as the player its self is perfect.

BTW, unlike most battery-life claims, i have been getting the full amount of time out of them.

I highly recommend this product to anyone who is in the market for a superior (but not outrageously expensive) player.

Summary: Lots of features, but...
Review: Good:

A buddy of mine got this player not long ago, since he was complaining that carrying all those normal cds was a hassle. It sure is an "ok" upgrade from a cd...if you can stand it's looks!

Bad:

Arguably, this thing looks like a toilet seat cover...it's nasty looking!(I seem to mention that a lot, hmm) And it's sort of huge. Thats exactly why I got a Sony MZ-N1 Minidisc. (Now THAT is elegant!)

Summary: This thing rocks!
Review: It's loud, sounds great, has an FM tuner, cool easy to use display and comes with good headphones and a case. I coudn't be more pleased with this thing. Don't waste your money on anything else, spend the extra cash and get the SP250. You'll be more than happy you did. I'd give it more stars if they let me.

Summary: The best cd player you layed your eyes on
Review: It is a great cd and mp3 player. Just look what all the other people say.

Rating: 3 stars
Summary: Not bad, but not great either
Review: I bought this so I could use it in my car. to keep it short, it did not live up to my expectations.

pros:

Sweet screen
ID3
Remote (good idea)
Good sound quality

Cons:

Remote is too small
cheeply made plastic
sound quality is good but not great (your paying 150 dollars!)

The pro's and the con's are about the same, hence the 3 rating. I hope this helps in your descision making.

Summary: Music lover
Review: I don't know what some of these people are talking about when they are talking bad about this great MP3 player. I have had this great player for about 3 months and I have not had any problems with it. I have bought a better set of headphones, the ones that come with it are not bad, but you can get a much better sound from this great player if you use a better set. Also I got an extra set of batteries to use as a back up.

Summary: Short battery, slow boot up, awkward controls
Review: Battery maxs out at 4 hours. Takes about 10 seconds to start playing. Very confusing control on player and on head phone. I got this because it is the only few CD, MP3 with FM tuner. The most annoying problem is the short battery life.

Summary: Be Careful
Review: The features on the player are amazing. The only bad part about it, that I could find, was that it seems a bit flimsy. I might just be used to my old Panasonic Shockwave because that thing could take a beating. Other than that, I fully recommend this player.

Summary: CD rotation produces noise-interference
Review: The features are great, as other reviews say, but when you play an audio CD, the CD-rotating motor creates electronic noise in the playback. It is particularly noticeable (intolerable) when the anti-shock buffer fills after about 1 minute, and the rotation slows somewhat -- it sounds like a little steam-engine railroad. It's bad enough to give you a headache. I am returning it...! If you want your audio to be free of motor interference, get something else.

Summary: Great Features & Sound Quality, But Build Quality is BAD!
Review: I've had this player for about 2 months now and the left corner hinge of the lid has broken off completely while I was closing the lid and now the lid is loose!

What's more, 3 of the mounts for the screws inside the player that hold it together have broken as well! I havn't once dropped this player or mishandled it. 3 of the screws are now missing and I have to keep it in it's case for fear of it falling apart.

However, I MUST say that the Features and Sound Quality from this player are FANTASTIC! If only they'd used higher quality plastic in making it.

I've sent SONICblue an email about it and they said it sounds like I received "a defective unit..." and I'm now awaiting a reply about the RMA request; it's been 3 days.

I would suggest you buy something else...and save yourself the hassle and waste of money with this one. I regret ever buying the RioVolt SP250! :-(
