Summary: What an amazing piece of equipment....
Review: I've had my Volt for about a month now, and I absolutely love it. Sound quality is great, the LCD display is large and clear, it's not a battery drainer.... this thing is wonderful. Don't understand the people who claim to have had problems figuring out the PROG button, or the different modes... programming a large (250+ song) cd is a piece of cake. Buy this player, you won't regret it.

Summary: MUSICMATCH JUKEBOX USERS MUST READ THIS!!!
Review: Hi; This is the second time I am editing my review! First, I gave 3, then 2 stars. Now, I am giving 4! And, I will tell you why. I used Musicmatch Jukebox Plus to burn my own CD's. Extremely fast compared to Basic. Then, I burned them to CD-R's. The RioVolt player would constantly play the first track, then skip the rest of the tracks in that particular directory (album),and go to the first track in the following directory. I simply couldn't figure it out. I burned different type of media even CD-RW's. Nothing helped. I was ready to smash the darn thing. I sent the manufacturer's tech support e-mail. They haven't responded yet. So, I decided to call them.{(541)967 2450 Mon-Thrs 5am-7pm PT,Fr 5am-7pm PT,Sat 8am-4pm Pt}. A very friendly gentleman tried to help. We checked the CD-R I was having trouble with by using Windows Explorer.(Right click my computer,select Explorer, then click your drive wherever that CD is. All I saw was Musicmatch Jukebox icons and all tag numbers. No file(song titles that I got with CDDB on Internet). The Rep. told me that the way MJ Plus and RioVolt read these files must not be the same. With his directions, I launched MJ Plus software and selected Options\settings\recorder\track directory. He wanted me to change the name track file using. ALBUM_TRACKNUMBER_TRACKNAME.So the sample path should read like this: c:\program files\musicmatch\music\artist\album_tracknumber_trackname. After thanking the good fella, I suggested that they need to provide us more detailed online manual. For instance, by pressing and holding EQ button on the player, you can navigate through features. The manual does not mention this. I deleted all those files, and encoded all those audio CD's. Now, rioVolt recognizes all those directories. I can listen to any album I want. Yihuuuu! The bottom line is this: A lot of things may cause conflicts. Maybe we shouldn't rush to make conclusions. Sorry RioVolt! Try using some good headphones. The difference is tremendous. I used the player walking at the park. It does not skip at all. The batteries last a long time. I believe things should get even better with future firmware upgrades. I hope you all enjoy it.

Summary: Probably the most feature complete CD Player available
Review: I have been looking for a CD player that plays MP3 files, WMA files, as well as regular CDs, and the Rio Volt is the only one which I have seen that is currently available. I have played regular cds, CD-Rs in which the sessions have not yet been closed, CD-Rs/CD-RWs with numerous file types (word documents, pictures, as well as MP3's and WMA's) and it doesnt miss a beat - I think its a pretty safe assumption that any type of CD with an MP3 file, WMA file can be played with this CD Player, as well as regular CDs of course.Its very sleek - not bulky, very light - not much heavier than the average CD Player on the market today. For a regular cd, it has 10 second skip protection with the ESP turned off, 40 seconds with the ESP, and for MP3/WMA files it has 120 second skip protection with the ESP turned on. If you are listening to an MP3 or WMA file, The Volt has a unique feature which stores the music in memory and stops the CD from spinning which I assume is to save battery life. (It's fun to watch too - I mean a CD which plays but the cd itself that doent spin, not your average CD Player). The equilizer works great, it has three modes - Normal, Rock, Jazz, Classical, Ultra Bass, or you can customize one for yourself. It works excellent except on MP3s or WMA files encoded at a low bit rate (which is totally understandable). The backlit screen is extremely easy to read, expecially in the dark, and when the battery is 20% depleted, it alerts you on the display. All in all, I can not find one downfall with this item, except for the fact that the EZ CD Creator version included in the package is an outdated version (but that really isnt a big issue, because everyone who has a CD-Recordable drive should already have the CD-R Software). Its definatly worth the money, and I havent seen anything on the market which can rival it.

Summary: Great MP3-CD Player, one thing though...
Review: ...Overall, it's a great device. It has almost everything it has to have. Good options, fairly good screen, etc. There's one thing that they should have done better. Anti-shock is 40 sec for audio CD's. It's not bad, but it could be better, for the price. I think the high price is because of the included remote control, batteries, and carrying case. But that should be sold separately. I really like Sony's g-Protection, which I think is the best there is now in the market. This player should have done a better anti-shock. It has 120 sec for MP3's, so that's good. But that's a minor thing. Everything else is great. Great directory/file browsing. It has an Equilizer which is great because not many players have one. It does many things to save battery life. When u play an mp3, it stops spinning the cd after a while, but continues playing the song. Display is great, could be more detailed though. But it's cool, has ID3 tag support. I highly recommend this product. I dont know if it's the best there is now, but it's one of the best.

Review: I have had it since May, and I'm very satisfied with this thing. The sound is good, easy to use, the remoto control rocks, you can see the LCD display in darkness, can be programed (create your playlist), it has 5 eq presets(not bad but i'd like to make my own presets), the read speed goes up to 6X, it has resume (for example if you turn off the Rio in the middle of a song it will start at the same time of the song when you turn it on). It woks with CD-R and CD-RW. It has cool features, repeat the entire CD, repeat the actual directory, suffle all, suffle directory, etc... I dont know the reason for the dancer guy, that space could be used for band name and song name. If you have winamp's playlist in the CD, RIO doesnt read it. In general it's a good piece of equipment.

Summary: Great Price, Great Product!
Review: Although there are kind of 3 more "look alike" products on this site, I think this is the best! Don't get scared about the price, I assure you, it worth it. Great sound, setup external speakers with subwoffer and you get yourself a party. Great anti-shock system, and also, reads the ID3 from the MP3(like winamp). The only thing I recommend is to record your mp3 within the less directories you can, better if you put them on a single directory, this will speed up the skip to next song function.

Summary: Good Audio Cd , terrible MP3/WMA Player
Review: After using RioVolt about a week, I regret buying it. Before I purchased it, I read a lot of good reviews about it. I wonder whether or not those reviews were sent by Rio's own people. First of all, there is no reminder about upgrading the firmware on Getting Started Poster. You must get that info. from one of the installation cd's that comes with RioVolt. The Manual (22 Pages) on the cd doesn't tell you everything you need to know about navigating the features. The worst thing is you have no access to the newest manual online! You have to download it. I can live with that ,too. But the manual is exactly the same!! Unless you read some of the FAQ's in Rio's web site, you will never find out that by pressing and holding EQ button you can see all those extra features!! ... Their tech support is another story. After sending them a detailed e-mail( I couldn't program the darn thing to play let's say tracks 14-25 (second album on a 107 song CD-R with MP3 files), they responded with a solution for a completely different type of problem and a player (Rio 600 and Rio 800). ... The player randomly plays tracks instead of starting with the first track. Musicmatch Jukebox Plus that I used to rip my own store purchased CD's and burned CD-R's play perfectly on different computers. Tracks 001-002-003 and so on. I can accept a cheap looking case (after all the player that I was after!)and ear buds. But poorly written manual and bad Tech Support are not acceptable....

Summary: Wimpy amp, vanishing EQ
Review: When I set the EQ and then turn the volume up past 30, the EQ effect disappears, so that at 40 (full volume), there is no EQ at all; each preset sounds the same. The EQ sounds good from volume 1-29. I drive a variety of headphone types. This player is not loud enough, and the EQ/bassboost disappears when I turn up the volume -- can these problems be fixed in firmware? This "intelligent" EQ is totally annoying and makes this unit (in combination with various headphones) produce both too quiet of output and poorly shaped and impossible to control response. I have owned several portable players and this has the weakest output of any.

Summary: A Must Have for Music Fans!
Review: I just purchased this player last night and was impressed how easy it was to use. The software included was a blessing especially the online manual as the included hardcopy is not useful. I ripped several of my own CDs so that I have one CD-RW and got about 150 songs and was very pleased how easy it was. The sound quality is perfect. The headphones are not comfortable and the unit itself is not that pretty(I like the look and feel of the Sony Sports portable CD) but overall I am very happy I purchased it. The slip cover as mentioned in other reviews has got to go, but I use to protect the unit(until I find one better). This is great for anyone who travels alot business or pleasure because all you will need is one or two CD-RWs=300 songs and your ready to go. Also saves space in your carry on. If you love music and have a CD Burner-Buy this product!
