Summary: Really Great Product
Review: I ordered this direct, since it was not available anywhere else when I shopped two months ago. Service and support was excellent...I did not find the display too small...I was amazed at the software upgrade feature and believe this is a real plus. I did not find the first upgrade to the display size that big a change. I am over 50 and need reading glasses...but I did not need them, by some miracle, for this. I find the rechargeable batteries do not last as long as specified, regardless of the number of discharges and recharges as they advise. Radio works okay. Sound is excellent and never had any loss of signal with lowest shock buffer selected.Search tools and the many functions on the buttons seem overwhelming at first but I mastered them in a couple of days. Highly recommend this product.

Summary: Alfmeister's Slim-X Review
Review: This is a truly world class mp3 cd player that looks as good as it sounds. It is extremely thin (16.7mm) and has a wonderfully smooth texture. The fit and finish is superb, as good as anything I've seen from Japan. The FM tuner has been greatly improved from the previous IMP-250. The new remote is easy to control and with just 3 toggle switches and two buttons you are in complete control. Fans of Old-Time Radio shows (like me) and audio books will be very happy to note that like previous iRiver players this player can fast scan at 1x, 2x, 4x or 6x! This makes finding a passage in an audio book very easy. The audible scan is excellent. True resume is another feature that is extremely useful for long shows and for lengthy musical passages as well. iRiver has listened to users more than any other company. They really pay attention to our wish lists. It plays MP3's (8-320 Kbps!) and Windows Media Audio (WMA) as well. An interesting feature is its ability to play Advanced Streaming Format (ASF.) Many videos are encoded in this format and this player will let you listen to the audio from these shows. Some reviewers may criticize this player for being overly complicated. It has to have numerous controls to satisfy the demands of the sophisticated mp3 listener and that is who this product is aimed at. This isn't any old walkman. It's a player for the new digital millennium.

Summary: Don't bother with the others
Review: This is the player you've been waiting for. I bought mine on the first day IRiver started selling them and I love it. Upgradeable firmware...long battery life (with rechargeable internal batteries and an external battery pack for good measure)...small size for carrying...and a remote control with a screen so you can carry the player in your backpack and control it with just the small remote. I use it for music and audiobooks and old time radio, and so far it has handled every compression level I've thrown at it. If you've been waiting to buy a MP3 CD player, don't wait any longer. Go for it. You won't regret it.

Summary: SlimX is slim for an mp3/cd player but not slim on features!
Review: The SlimX is my first mp3 cd/player and from the looks of it probably my last (unless Iriver can make something better than than the slimX)! Iriver is the sister company of RioVolt so for all of you RioVolt lovers out there you will feel right at home. First I must say in terms of costumer service Iriver handels this very well. I bought the SlimX straight from them before all the major websites had any news about the SlimX and Iriver was with me every step of the way. Now the SlimX is a wonderful, amazing, piece of equipment. I am still truly shocked that I am able to carry 11 and a half hours of music on one cd! Now other players out there can play mp3s, but anyone really serious about music should own the SlimX. Why? Well Iriver offers firmware upgrades. You can just download the latest upgrade burn it on a cd and pop it in the SlimX and it will self install. There are so many benefits, with these upgrades, like better radio reception, better graphical user interfaces, the ability to personalize your SlimX to suit your needs. The sound is awesome. I find that when i custimize the EQ settings i get a richer fuller sound. So far i have not had any skipping problems, with any regular music cd's or my own burnt cds. You get the 8 minutes of shock protection with mp3s burnt at a 128 bitrate, so i always burn all my files with this bitrate. However the SlimX can handle various bitrates well. Also a very excellent feature, when you go to iriver [website] you can download The Iriver Caption Editor program. This allows you to synchronize lyrics with an mp3 file so you can read them on the awesome SlimX remote! Now about the remote you can't help but notice it! I have heard some say its too big, its not ergonomic, the lcd screen is too small. I say its not true. I find that it works just well. The text and lyrics are easily legible, and things like contrast of the lcd screen can be fixed through the control menu. I find that the remote is very easy to use. In Fact I was up and running with my SlimX right out of the box, I played with it first and read the manual later, its real easy to use. The construction of the SlimX is awesome and durable. What I love is that Iriver will always keep the SlimX fresh with the firmware upgrades, and you will never stop learning about your SlimX. If you are planning to buy an mp3 player save up for this one, it is well worth it! I use it everyday, but is even better when you have a long trip! Everyone will have 50 cds, you will have one!

Review: The iMP-350 SlimX is the newest MP3 CD player on the market. Technologically superior with many features and a slim 16.7mm thickness, and light weight for easy carrying, this gorgeous player combines many features. Its very easy to use. The SlimX played every audio CD as well as data CDs filled with folders of MP3s, WMAs, and ASF files.
The remote control is stunning.The small screen has all of the necessary information, helping you navigate through folders on your MP3 CDs and displaying a moving slider when you adjust volume. One jog dial controls volume, EQ, and programming FM presets; the second handles menu navigation, fast forward/rewind, and toggling between FM presets; a third switches between CD and radio and navigates +10 or -10 songs, a great option for dealing with 150-song MP3 CDs. Holding down the Menu button brings up a nifty tabbed interface that might be hard for the farsighted to read, but most people will appreciate the way it lets you choose from General, Display, Timer, Control, Mode, and User EQ in a hassle-free way. Interestingly, the General function offers users a choice of 35 languages--everything from Afrikaans to Ukranian.
The audio is clear as a bell and cranks loud enough to rock even the hardiest ears, with punchy bass and crisp-as-MP3-gets highs. And an automatic Resume feature defaults to fading in the music right where you left off.
The unit holds two included nickel-metal-hydride rechargeable batteries that give you about 13 hours of life. To extend this to 23 hours, you can pop two AAs into the external battery pod.
In all, I give this player 5 stars.

Summary: Could've been better.
Review: I've had this player about three weeks ... and recharged the batteries every single day. I only play it about an hour and a half each day but that is enough to sap the battery power and then it saps the battery extension in about two hours.
I use it at work but have to fumble with the remote control when I answer the phones or go to help customers. Not to mention that I have to hit "play" for every single song on my CD-R discs!
This would be a great product (with all its features) if it only worked! This is going back to Amazon and I am getting a Sony instead.

Summary: Frickin Amazing!
Review: I've had this player for about a year and a half, and it is the best piece of personal electronics I've ever had. I took it with me to Afghanistan for 9 months. Even in the harsh conditions over there, it's never had a single problem. I recommend this product to everyone I know.

Review: I swear u won't be able too find a mutch better cd/mp3 player anywhere else!!! Plus, this is the best price around, all the other prices r the same or higher. Everything about this thing is awesome! I'll list them!(...) Good things:Everything.From FM tuner to mp3 cds great stereo & extremly slim! Bad things: Nothing except the remote. It's not bad but its sorta hard to use. But(...) fur me after u read the remote part of the manual ur all set!

Summary: almost made it a year...
Review: well the slim x 350 did many things with me..it went to school, on many trips across america, and just played music for the ears of my frinds and mine. but after about 9 months of having it, the cd reader began to fault! it would read no disc and i wanted to drop it i hated it for turning on me..but it did.

Review: This mp3 player is so versatile - it's great! It plays CDs, radio, and mp3s. It's very easy to use and is loaded with tons of awesome features. I took it with me on a cross-country plane flight recently and it was so nice to have with me. A must buy!
