Summary: doesn't live up to the hype
Review: I have two primary complaints about this unit:

1) the batteries that are included with this unit only last about two hours at most.
2) the remote's interface is clunky, and hard to operate. just getting it into recharge mode is tricky (hint: put a CD in, and then open the case when the unit is plugged in)
3) the unit turns itself off when you unplug it from an external power source
4) the headphones that come with the unit [are not quality]

ok, 4 complaints

Summary: I'm Loving It, Despite The Price
Review: You *can* buy a disc-based MP3 player for a lot less. But I'm enjoying this one mightily. It's thin ... it's durable ... it's light ... the firmware upgrade actually *worked* ... Compare and make up your own mind.

Summary: Good player
Review: I'm very pleased with my SlimX, I've had it for about a week now.

Good sound: CDA quality is excellent, relatively fast loading and good playing of mp3 and wma files (although if you skip several songs the seek time can be about 3-5 seconds).

Loud enough: I use Sennheiser HD590's (120 ohm imp., open back, which means that it takes a lot of power to kill outside noise), and I generally leave it at about level 30 (of 40). It's loud enough that I can't hear the computer keyboard or normal conversations: if you're trying to drownd traffic noise or shouting people I'd suggest some lower impedance headphones, but I love my Sennheisers. The line out is a little weak and is controlled by the volume switch, but that's a minor quibble.

Construction: I wouldn't try stepping on the player, but I feel safe with it in my backpack. The remote seems a little fragile, which scares me.

Excellent remote: very intuitive. I haven't read the instuction manual yet, but I've got everything figured out.

Firmware upgradable: if some superhot new format comes out, hopefully I won't have to buy a new player

Expensive: as a college student, this is a bummer, but it's much cheaper than a hardrive model, about the same as a 128mb flash, and it plays 700mb discs!! ...

Battery life: I listen for about 4-5 hours a day, can go three days in a row without recharging. Just recharge it at night on the third night. Nice.

Summary: Love it!
Review: I bought the Riovolt Sonic Blue SP250 first. It's okay, skips terribly (even when just walking with it). Bought the iRiver recently - it's much smaller and "slicker" looking and performing. If you were choosing between the two, I'd go with the iRiver. The battery power is great, it's very slim, the remote has a display (the SP250 has the display on the unit - if you tuck it into a backpack, you can't see the display - with the iRiver, you can tuck it into a backpack, and hold the display/remote in your hand). Technophiles - it's a MUST have.

Summary: Brushing off the haters
Review: ... it is incredibly easy to use, and has tons of great features. ... I'll agree that the lid may seem flimsy at time, but that is hardly reason to decide against this great player. Besides, it's supposed to be thin and light, remember? In sum, I'd recommend the slim-X 350 to anyone looking for a CD/MP3 player with good sound quality, ease of use, and useful features.

Review: In this review I'd like to answer some questions that may have been raised by negative reviews of the Slim-X on this page. First of all, if you are not "computer literate" this is probably not the player for you. It is not complicated, but does require general knowledge of how to use electronic devices. That being said it is incredibly easy to use, and has tons of great features. Another complaint I saw was that it wasn't "loud enough." Well, the people who wrote this probably used [poor] mp3 files that were not encoded properly or had low quality headphones. All of my mp3s sound excellent and are definitely loud enough, even with the standard ear-bud phones that ship with the player. Some people said it felt too flimsy for them.

Summary: Definitely worth my money!
Review: I hesitated at first when deciding on whether or not to buy this product. I kept comparing this to RioVolt's SP250 CD/MP3 player. But I decided to buy the iRiver SlimX because it's thin and it looks more appealing to the eye. And I'm so glad I chose this over the RioVolt one! People say that the sound from the earbuds are too shallow sounding...they're NOT! The sound is just absolutely awesome! You can boost up the bass and treble, if you want, to your desires. The earbuds DO NOT hurt! They may be a tad bit big for some people, but they're not uncomfortable to me. I haven't really tested the battery life on the player yet, but some people have complained about the battery life being depleted over time. Well, in the manual, it says that you should discharge the batteries (an option that is given to you when you're charging/discharging the batteries) at least once a month to ensure that they last long. So that takes care of that problem. The FM tuner is pretty good also. The upgradable firmware is a really cool feature! When I received my player, I checked out the iRiver website to see if there were any updates for me to download. I saw that a version 2.02 was available (up from version 1.02). I downloaded the file, followed their instructions, burned the file onto a CD-RW, put the CD-RW into the player, pushed play, it updated the player in about 2 minutes, and that was that. Simple and easy! I DO have some minor complaints about this player though...for some odd reason, the cord for the right earbud is about 2 and a half times longer than the cord for the left earbud (I found that to be a little strange)...sometimes when I skip to other MP3s on my CD, there's a rather long pause for the song to load (approx. 5-7 seconds). Overall, this player is great! I'll be bringing this to school everyday to keep me entertained during my hour long breaks! Buy this now!!

Summary: Great Player great price Great Value
Review: I had been looking for an MP3 player when i stumbled onto this little gadget. It;s perfect, instead of getting an over priced and harder to use MP3 player, i got the iriver 350. Works wonderfully, i've had it for about 4 months now and i gotta say the battery time is amazing, i flew to spain listening to it the entire flight(~8-9h) and still had four days of reg listening time(~3h/day). Do the math thats a whopping 20+ hours on one charge. The only problem i can find for this player is it's durability. It's not flimsy or anything but its no panasinic shockwave either. I'm always scared to keep in in my hands or put it away in a bag because i might break it. It's a little wide when you put the aux batt on but i went out and got an Eastpack bookbag made for Cd players. The CD player stays inside in a neat and sturdy compartment while the remote comes through a hole in the material and gets straped onto the side. This is a great value player and btw the upgradeble filmware will save u a bundle!

Summary: Not bad really
Review: I'm pretty impressed with the slimx. The instructions are a bit useless and it takes a while, or took a while for me anyway, to figure out this bit of kit. All in all though I'm impressed, the sound is clear as a bell--which is most important when you think about it, and it looks good (except for earphones which are a bit star trekish if you ask me).

Summary: ROBERT NEVALDINE! ARGHH!
Review: How dare you! I read your review and checked out some facts about you, you are not a picky person, you are just 100% bias to your little iPod. Plus I guess you love Apple, since you always review Apple products and you said this player is worthless because it can't be upgraded on apple's. Sorry bud, but if you haven't noticed, PC's are much more functional, compatible, and more popular than Apple PC's. And it is just a CD player, and no one ever expected it to save the world. But anyway, I cannot believe you would rate this product a 3. It is the thinnest, has the best skip protection out of any MP3-CD player, it is inexpensive, looks cool, has a very cool remote, and tons of features. Oh yeah, sorry, most of those features are only for PC users. Darn. You know what, you always rate expensive and high-quality products, so why don't you go out and buy yourself a top-of-the-line PC and then we'll see how much you like this CD player. Anyway, this is by far the best solution for listening to MP3 audio. Better than MP3 players because it holds 100's of times more music and the CD's are so inexpensive. It is better than Hard Drive MP3 players because it is a lot cheaper than them, and you can listen to your friend's CD's or trade them since most people have CD players right now. And it has removable media for an unlimited amount of space for music. It is better than normal MP3 CD Players because it has a great remote, it is simple looking, has a great style, is very sturdy and much thinner than average players. So I give this product a 5 star rating because that is exactly what it deserves.
