Review: when i decided to buy an mp3 player i looked at everything availabe. i was going to get the riovolt 250 (the black one). but that one is too thick. this is really very slim. i like everything about this player. the fact that there is no display on the unit itself is not a problem at all. the remote has a very good display and thats all you'll use anyway.

Summary: You'd better have good eyes
Review: I bought two of these, one as a gift and one for myself. The sound quality is OK but no better. There's aliasing of high notes when playing MP3s. The user interface is all through a 1 inch by half inch, low contrast LCD display and the type face is difficult to read in low light and the controls are a set of multi-function switches. You _need_ to read the display because some of the modes and functions are critical and the method for invoking them isn't obvious. It took me a lot of false starts before I got it out of the mode where every song got repeated indefinitely unless you manually advance the play list. You also need to control the battery charging mode. Just plugging the damn thing in and leaving it for 12 hours will result in...nothing.

Summary: A brilliant must-have device
Review: After many months using my SlimX, I can say I absolutely recommend it to anyone interested in an MP3 player, without reserve. It is by far the best deal in MP3 hardware, because you can use standard CD-R and CD-RW discs which are easily and inexpensively bought and hold around 700-800 megabytes each. It isn't even possible to buy a memory stick that big, as it would probably cost upwards of 500 dollars, while 50-packs of CD-Rs can be bought for under $20. The remote is simply magnificent, I need say no more. The only reason one might choose a standard MP3 player over this MP3 CD player is size - the SlimX, although very slight, cannot fit comfortably into any of my pants' pockets. All told, buying the SlimX was one of the best purchases I have ever made, no mistake. It's a fantastic value, and you won't regret it either.

Summary: Batteries are fine
Review: A lot of peeps out there are complaining bout the batteries. Quit whining about it. Most rechargable batteries don't hold as much at first. Just discharge, and charge at nights for a while and the capacity of em increases. Thats how almost all rechargable batteries work. I haven't had any problems with the batteries or anything else. I got the SlimX because it's cheaper than an MP3 cd player, and it can do more than one anyway. This is by far the best investment I've made all year. I haven't had much of a prob with skip, but only on a few songs.

Summary: Nice design, but infuriating to use
Review: I bought one of these from [Amazon.com] (good company) to use with audio books converted to mp3 files which I wanted to listen to while biking. The snows came before I could do this, so I tried using the player to listen to the mp3's while walking. Big problems. First, it takes the player a couple of minutes (I am NOT exagerating) to read an mp3 disk before it will do anything. Then, it can't deal with even a moderate walking pace on city streets without stalling. After it stalls, it again takes it several minutes to start again. It also does not seem to like itself to be in the vertical plane (like it always will be when being carried in its pouch). I have had it refuse to even read an mp3 disk unless the player is in the horizontal plane.I am very disappointed with this unit. I guess I should have paid more attention to the negatives that owners had described about it. I honenstly don't know why ZDNET gave it such a high rating. In my opinion it is a triumph of style over function. I rate it as high as 3 stars because it probably works fine as just a CD player. It ... with mp3s. Upgrading the firmware was easy, by the way.

Summary: Wonderful little gadget.
Review: I received my iRiver SlimX 350 today, and am giving it 5 stars. I did a lot of research in looking for my new CD player, and even though a lot of reviews said that the sound quality of the "ear bud" headphones was little more than adiquate, I decided to buy it any way. ...after using it for about 15 hours in a row, I have decided that those people did not know what they were talking about. The bass on these suckers is amazing. I am very impressed with the sleek look of this product. ...the only disadvantages are that the remote is a bit complicated, and there are a lot of cords... but, it is worth it.

Summary: Deceiving with it's Ups and Downs
Review: I got the SlimX iMP-350 as an early Christmas gift, as my trusty old one finally broke. I did a ton of research, but had doubts on spending so much money on a CD player. I had a few things that I really liked in it, that can't go un-mentioned... --Pros--
1.) It is amazingly thin - a great feature to have on any CD player. The only problem is, what makes it so thin is the batteries, which I will discuss later.
2.) Nice look (Personal Opinion) - although not as nice of a look as the iMP 400.
3.) Rechargeable Batteries - Great for making the CD player thin, cuts cost on buying regular ones.
4.) Remote - High Tech, although can be confusing to use, it can be figured out and once figured out can be a blast.
5.) Remote doesn't need to be used! - I find sometimes I wouldn't want to use the remote and so I just can unplug that and use headphones.
6.) Headphones aren't THAT bad - people always diss the headphones! Come on people, you think they are going to give us the BEST headphones they have for free!? No CD player comes with FREE NICE headphones.
7.) Upgradeable - although this can be a hassle to learn how to do so and it can take up time, it can be a nice feature (Although it seems more logical that you would want to make just a good CD player period rather than have to fix problems with it constantly over upgrades).
8.) Sound - a big issue for some, I don't see the problem with the sound; it's clear and precise for me. The FM tuner plays fine if you keep it at least 1 inch away from clutter.
9.) FM Tuner - Sweet! Works well, and easy to use! You can "set" up to 20 stations where you will fast skip to them easily.
10.) CD "Holder" - CDs hook on to the circle thingy nicely. Doesn't fall off.
11.) CD Player - Lid shuts nicely, nice latch onto it.
12.) Great Anti-skip - speaks for itself, I shook it for a long time never messed up! :D
13.) Customer Service - some people are saying they are getting no help from the service, which may be true as I've never had to actually call them. Their website - www.iRiver.com has its own message board which is in constant use so you can ask your questions there and get good responses from users and staff. Now for the cons!
--Cons-
1.) Batteries - Huge issue!!!! Yes it comes with rechargeable batteries, that ARE NOT CHARGED YET - meaning all those people who say nothing works, try using the AA battery case and see how it works. The rechargeable batteries are thin long ones (===), that's what makes the CD player so thin! Some people say that they don't last as long as the co. say they do, and some say they do (luck I guess :?). So if you can't use the rechargeable ones yet, you have to stick with 2 AA which you slide into a bulky and ugly container and attach that to the cd player. It does its purpose, but is extremely annoying to use. Not such a Slim CD player anymore is it? And finally, the batteries take a long while to recharge.
2.) Wires w/ Remote - Although its nice if your on a long trip, and you don't need to take it out a lot. The wires can be a pain in the rear to deal with. iRiver did however make them a fairly good length, but there are still a lot of them.
4.) Upgradeable (Firmware) - Confusing to use, must be able to burn CDs. Makes you wonder why the company doesn't just make a GOOD cd player and not one that has to be upgraded constantly to fix bugs.
5.) Remote - Confusing to use, Small, with tiny text. Can be good or bad depending on vision.
6.) Display - Yes I know it has the remote, but as I mentioned above with the wires, sometimes I don't want to take the remote with me, so that leaves you with... nothing. The CD Player itself has no Display on it. Although I find I don't look at the display on my CD player every minute, it is disappointing. But this is another reason the CD player is so thin.
7.) Accessories - The headphones aren't the greatest, and the case is flimsy. But both work, and both do what they are made to do. Maybe not well but they are there and that makes it nice. (Can be both a Pro and a Con).
8.) Price - $$$$$$ + $$$$$ = iRiver SlimX iMP 350. Expensive for what it does.
9.) Customer Service - I've had no experience in this area, but from many other reviews, the support is not so helpful. Although the iRiver SlimX iMP-350 may be the Top-Selling MP3 Player, Top-Selling Portable CD Player, and Top-Selling MP3-CD Player, I find it awkward how it is ranked into the MP3 Player section, as it is **NOT AND MP3 PLAYER**. It plays MP3s that you burn onto CDs (which MANY regular CD players that you can buy at half this price can also do!). ***I repeat, the iRiver SlimX iMP 350 is a CD Player that can play CDs with MP3s on them. You CANNOT --download-- MP3s on to the CD player via the Internet. Both iRiver and Amazon.com, as well as Best Buy made me to believe you could download MP3s onto the CD.**** Although the pros outnumber the cons 13/9, the cons are big ones at that. Taking the CD player from 5 stars to 3 Stars. I hope my review is helpful to all of you :)
