iRiver SlimX iMP-350 CD/MP3 Player with Ultraslim Design

Review: This is my first non-Wal-Mart cheapo and I am more impressed with this than I am with any other portable CD player in my life. It may be because I am new to the music, but I think this is absolutely remarkable. It never skips, has more functions than a computer, and can play CD's with a hundred song plus long playlist. This is absolutely remarkable. It is within a decent price, and has everything I need at this point. I am sure though, that as my music interests expand I will need something better, but this is for now my favorite new toy. There is one problem though, and that is the earbuds. They sound really good but they are very uncomfortable.

Review: i burned through two nomad jukeboxes before deciding i wasn't fit to carry anything rotating at 7200 rpm with me in my pocket. i got this and burned some cds. it's dope. works well. runs as advertised as far as power consumption goes. control is complex but masterable, controller is easy to read, it's light, and it reads pretty much everything i've put into it with very little trouble with skipping -- though there has been some when it's in my bag. no problems in car. werd up.

Review: ...i've managed to compile enough good songs to fill up a CD, and they sound perfect on this player, sometimes it does sort of stall on some of the songs, but you just go to the next song and it's fine. I don't really put the shock protection to the test all that often, but when i walk around campus, it doesn't give me any problems. For college students, i recommend it, because if you buy the altec lansing avs300 speakers for 20 bucks, or just use whatever speakers you already have, you got yourself an adequate sound setup that can fit anywhere, and when summer comes, it's mad easy to pack it up.

Review: I loved this player when I first picked it up. But it doesn't seem to stand the test of time.

I drive truck, so I wanted something that could hold a lot of data (at least 8 hours worth), so a flash player wouldn't cut it (unless at an unacceptable 16kbps). I decided to pick up this player based on it's reviews and 8 min buffer. I figured, just start it playing before I start up the truck.

No good. Well at least, not for long. It started to freeze after a couple of months.

I'm only guessing that's a buffer issue, but either way, it's unacceptable. Player plays fine otherwise, but has done this once while not moving.

PRO:

Great features on easy to use remote

Looks sharp

Plays all bit rate mp3s I put in there (8-196 and VBR), and wma

Fantastic battery life with supplemental battery pack (included)!

CON:

Doesn't keep it's place with very long files (audio books), and bookmarking is a pain in the tucas.

Buffer fails with vibration of truck (maybe not an issue in a regular vehicle)

Would not consider this for biking or running (If that's what you are looking for, it is a given you need a flash player)

As to be expected, the included earbuds are sub par. I use the Sony Earbud Headphones (MDR-EX70LP). I can wear those for about four hours a day and not get sore ears

Summary: Bad anti-shock, otherwise okay
Review: I had this player for about 3 months before the antishock just wimped out. For the first three months, I had no problem, but now I can hardly walk down the street and listen to a CD. The problem is mainly with regular CDs. MP3 CDs play well, and the other features of this player work fine, but I am very annoyed that such a fancy thing can't have good shock protection. I have jacked it up to 180 seconds, the highest it goes, and it skips more than other 45-second ESP players I have had. So take that into account. You can always just rip all your CDs and make a big MP3 CD that won't skip as much, but you shouldn't have to do that for the price.

I recently upgraded the firmware and I must say that's a very nice feature. They keep correcting bugs and adding features, so it's nice.

Review: The only thing I don't like about it is that it may take a looong time to start (up to 30 sec), even with an audio CD, especially in freezing weather.
Otherwise, the sound is excellent and the features and the looks are hard to beat. And seems like every other month there's a new downloadable firmware on iRiver's site.

Review: I spent several weeks researching various CD/MP3 players before settling on the Imp 350. I love this thing! It plays everything I throw at it and it has yet to skip. I drive a lot and use this player in my car. I live in a rural area with lots of rough roads and railroad tracks. It just never skips!

...I have zero complaints at this point. It has performed flawlessly.

Review: This MP3 Player is a wonderful product! It is packed full of features (Adjustable Graphic Equalizer, multi-shuffle modes, plays regular music CD's, rechargeable batteries, a back-up battery system, plays Windows Media Files, etc.) I am completely happy with it. It works great, it is not a battery hog unless you play CD audio CD's instead of MP3 CD's. I use it in my car with a cassette adapter, I don't use the earphones, so I don't know how good they are. I highly recommend the SlimX 350. It's the best Valentine's Day gift my wife has ever given me.

Skips too much, May 6, 2003

Looks great, but skips while walking, which renders it useless. Takes a long time to load a disk. For that kind of money should perform better. Had to return mine and will get a Sony or a Panasonic.
