Summary: PRIOR EDITION
Review: I would like to upgrade to QB Pro 2003. However, I am very concerned. I am now running QB Pro 2002. In 9/2002, I upgraded QB Pro 2002. My program never worked right after the upgrade. I run ME and the error message always said "Systems Resources Low......". I deleted the upgraded program and reinstalled the old program. Everything worked find. Tech support cost quite bit but were of little help.

I keep my firm's books using QB but am leary about upgrading to QB Pro 2003. I may have to buy the full version to be safe.

Summary: Poor product, poor support
Review: After buying the 2003 upgrade, we have had real problems. Although earler versions ran well and the computer fully meets system requirements, the 2003 version is extremely slow. When you put the cursor over the menu bar, it takes two seconds before it is recognized. Click on the item and it takes up to 5 seconds for the menu to appear. Call Intuit and they want your credit card to talk to a "software engineer." I understand how they can charge for company specific accounting questions, but charge for software problems? My advice, save your money and don't upgrade. As a long time Intuit/Quicken customer I am very disheartened with the company and their products.

Summary: HIGH Marks from the QUICKBOOKS GURU
Review: I am a Certified QuickBooks ProAdvisor and again, have beta tested the new version of QuickBooks. Frankly, I have ALL my clients on QuickBooks software and found it to be the best user package for the small business owner.

The refinements in all areas including expanded reporting functions, easier and more comprehensive Bank Reconciliations, tracking all Income and Expenses/class, more options for templates etc and more options for backing up data. I love the remote access feature that I can conveniently reach my client's data screen and we can do online training or on-the-spot journal entries.

QuickBooks still is NOT easy enough for most users to set up properly, accounting wise...but very easy to use once you have the initial set-up, it is a basic common sense approach. Basic training for everyday use is simple and straightforward.

For the Naysayers out there....QuickBooks has basically become the standard for Accounting Software for small business for a REASON>>>because it continually improves the product. Intuit has also several add-on packages to customize YOUR business to your specific needs. This is more than any other comparably packaged price accounting software out there. They even are offering customized forms/products to let you stand out from your competition.

Summary: Time consuming to install and negligible improvement.
Review: The installation is tedious and non-obvious. Moreover there is no succinct description in the documentation as to how to migrate files from version 2001. The default installation script for Windows XP did not function without some modification. And Norton Personal firewall must be turned off, while down loading all the patches and up-dates of which there are many. The only reason to buy this product is because Intuit's 2001 version will not function with contemporary versions of Internet Explorer, therefore if you use a current version of Explorer, and are doing a re-install of the product, you are forced into the up-grade, which for my business, offers no, as not any, value added, features.

Summary: I'd rather deal with Tony Soprano
Review: I don't have a problem with the way Quickbooks works, but paying [$$] a year for the tax tables is pure (...). When I was forced to upgrade to QB Pro 2003 it at least came with the payroll tax tables for the year. This year if I wanted to upgrade to QB 2005 they wanted [$$] for the upgrade and [$$] additional for the tax tables. Every year they come up with a clever new way to cheat their customers out of their money.
Utterly shameless.
I've been using QB since 1996 and this is the last year I will use this software.

Summary: Quickbooks Pro 2003
Review: As far as productivity software goes it is the best! It is as easy or as hard as you want it and performs well in either case. I use it for my personal accounts as well as a couple of corporate businesses one with payroll the other without. I could go on but I think this is enough. I have since upgraded to 2004.

Summary: Time consuming to install and negligible improvement.
Review: Well, I have just spent 2 hours reading reviews on various Quick Books products, and was very supprised at the number of negative reviews. I have used Intuit products for years. I was using tax software back in the days of Mac-in-tax (before Intuit owned it). I do income tax preparation and keep my business records on Quick Books 2002 for windows. I don't know how I could survive with out their products. I also use Pro Series for income tax preparation, as well as Turbo tax for all the "freebes" I do for family and friends. (All of which are Intuit products). I can not recall ever having any of them crash.

In another life when I was Controller for a large Corporation, we had to buy new software to solve the Y2K problem. The company purchased a BIG NAME accounting package. The up front cost with trainning and set up was $50,000! That's right, 50 THOUSAND, and I was never able to get a financial report from it. I had to "run" the general ledger, then pick the data out and enter it in Excel to get a financial statement. Then, I discovered Quick Books when I started my own business. I was amazed that for a few hundred dollars I had a very competent accounting program that gave me INSTANT financial reports in almost any configuration I could think of. I will admit there is a learning curve to using the software, but you have that with any new software. I was able to teach myself how to use the software,(no calls to tech support though there were times when I really wanted to). With a little work, I was soon very proficient with it. The information is availible in the documentation. However, that route is not for the faint of heart. I would recommend that new users who can afford it get some tranning before striking out on your own.

All in all I must say that Intuit products, or at least the ones I have used are excellent, and very inexpensive when compaired to many alternatives. But that is only my personal opinion, but one that comes from experience, and I don't even own the stock, but that is another story.
