Rating: Summary: Conversion from Quickbooks 2001... Review: A word of caution. Peachtree claims to have a wizard to convert directly from QB to Peachtree. They deliberately obfuscated information in their product info: thus 3-stars.Wizard will ONLY accommodateQBpro v4 OR v5. It just grabs a snapshot of your data files (sim to close of year) and imports your customer and other lists and acct. info. I spoke to Peachtree and they say new wiz under development and several months out. Suggest you download the demo full version and try it out. Other than the conversion problem, the demo seems to indicate an acceptable product for business. QB won't handle FIFO/LIFO or Assemblies. Peachtree does.
Rating: Summary: Limited Data Access - Especially Time Tickets Review: I have used Peachtree for several years, and recently installed the 2002 version. While 2002 is somewhat improved, for me, it still carries some of the same frustrations as earlier versions. (I only continue to use it because it is the system my excellent accountant supports.) Peachtree Complete is a powerful, moderately easy-to-use program. However, this user is extremely frustrated at the inability to access data in ways that are meaningful to the user. An accounting program like this is based on a large database, which should be freely available to analyze in any way a user chooses. Unfortunately, the designers of Peachtree think they know better than the user what the user needs. So they only provide a limited number of reports. True, they allow you to buy an ..add-on program, Crystal Reports, to customize your reports. But why shouldn't that simple functionality be built in to Peachtree? And even with Crystal Reports, it is still not possible to link time tickets to reports. If your application involves billable time for clients, this program is not for you! It is impossible to manage a professional services project without the ability to generate good project management reports showing how much time (and the associated cost) has been expended on a project for the various tasks. It appears that Peachtree was designed for businesses that sell things, not for businesses that sell services. This user hopes Peachtree will wake up one day and realize how many small and mid size businesses (their stated target market) are service businesses that bill for time. Until then, this user relies on a separate time tracking spreadsheet system to manage projects, at a heavy burden in unnecessary overhead time.
Rating: Summary: A GREAT software for small to mid-sized businesses Review: I have worked with over a dozen accounting packages over the last 15 years, including beta testing such products as Open Systems, Great Plains, and Profit. I have used Peachtree versions 2 - 2002 for my own company and I have set up the program for innumerable clients over the years. Peachtree is the BEST program for smaller businesses - bar none. It has a terrific payroll module, good a/p and a/r, and the ability to evaluate your business standing right now, not next month when your CPA finishes the books. The key to the program is to have the program set up by an expert and to have occasional maintenance on the system. After setup, my customers have me out about twice a year to perform updates, create permanent backups, fix minor problems, and answer questions. Just because the software costs less than ... (multi-user versions), doesn't mean that you can get by with only spending ... for a class to become an expert. Look for someone to come in and tailor the program to your exact needs. This is a more expensive process, but considering that Peachtree's real competitors (NOT QuickBooks) start at thousands of dollars, you are still better off financially-- and you will have REAL financial information to boot....
Rating: Summary: Peachtree Accounting Review: Peachtree accounting does not serve the small business client. The best value on small business accounting software is Quickbooks Pro Series. I am an accountant that specializes in small business. My professional opinion is Peachtree is not user friendly and you are not able to easily format it for your business. Quickbooks is easily customized for your individual business and it is a superb program. Quickbooks will work well for the business owner as well as your accountant. Don't waste your money on Peachtree!

Rating: Summary: Great software but be careful. Review: The Peachtree accounting package is a very comprehensive piece of software for the small or medium size business. It gives great control of whats going on in your business and is easily networkable, but a word of caution. You absolutely MUST have a good understanding of accounting to set this thing up. If you don't, have your accountant do it. Once it's up and running it's user friendly and very easy to use. I especially like the security features and audit trail. It let's you control who does what and lets you see who did what. My only problems with the Peachtree system is that they could have given it a little more versitaly with the reporting functions and its inventory control features are cumbersome and rudimentry. But you can't have everything in a low price do it yorself system. Overall a very good system and a great value.
