Summary: Looks good on the surface but....
Review: I evaluated a trial version of this software that was billed as "fully functional". It was heartily endorsed by a business consultant. But, I found that it was extremely cumbersome. The import abilities are weak, and I am still wondering why there was no provision for printing a duplicate invoice. That is where I gave up. My advice? Go to myob.com and download the trail version before you spend any money on this one.

Summary: A Quick Clean Program
Review: I was suprised at the unfavorable reviews. I like this program and my experience is that other people find this program easy to use, too.

There is a great graphics interface that helps you keep your bearings as you work through your various tasks. For example, it is easy to reprint checks or invoices, just pull up the form in the transaction journal and hit the print button. The drill down capabilities let you go from your reports to the source of your information as well as it is a push of a button to put the report into Excell.

The inventory module is what for me puts this program on top. There are features included that you would have to pay thousands for in other programs, such as multiple levels of pricing. MYOB just leaves others in the dust.

Special note to MacIntosh users. QuickBooks has dropped the Mac platform and given MYOB the lead. MYOB is long time Mac ally and they are investing in the future with a new version that will take advantage of Apple's latest O/S. I like that MYOB will run the same data file on both the Mac and the PC.

This program runs clean and nimble. I recommend it.

Summary: Better Than Quickbooks
Review: Intuit treat me (their customer) with complete contempt. Every year they make piecemeal upgrades to their software instead of sitting down to do the job properly with major releases every 3 to 4 years. MYOB is the small business accounting leader outside the US. My take is that MYOB spend their money on PRODUCT DEVELOPMENT whereas Intuit spend their money on ADVERTISING. I am a MYOB convert. The package is robust and has more features than Quickbooks. Minor whiney comments like "doesn't print duplicate invoices" (ever heard of multipart forms???) just don't stack up. Software is very stable and quite intuitive.

Summary: Looks good on the surface but....
Review: MYOB is the package I've been using for the last 6 years to keep track of the money for my little one person company. To me the key to this whole thing is "Mind YOUR OWN Business." If you really are the person running a small business, are you likely to be familiar with double entry bookkeeping? I'm not. So you're constantly presented with little brain teasers like "is this a debit account or a credit account." If you're not an accountant, this will be more puzzling than you think.

Then there are problems like printing a check, the printer jams, and you have to print it again. MYOB forces you to delete the old check and then start over from scratch creating the new one. There are many little usability problems like this one that just make me want to scream.

In fairness, MYOB has lots of features - reminder lists, payroll, inventory, and more. It does a lot, and the price isn't bad.

Its just that, if you run a small business you wear a lot of hats. You don't want to spend a lot of time figuring out how to use your accounting software. You want to write a check, enter a sale, or check inventory, and be done with it. MYOB makes you work harder than you probably want to.
