Summary: Not bad for the buck.
Review: I got it with office 2000 pro.... I used it for my family home website. It does pretty much everything that you want. But, I had to go into the actually code for my site and do some changes/input to get the site to do what FP2000 wouldn't.

Summary: One of the Best Web Design Programs!
Review: I have had some pretty stinkers for web programs when I just started out. So I really wished I had gotten this first. When I got it I was really impressed how easy it was to learn. It was hard a little at first, but once I got the hang of using it I loved it. I have made a few great sites with it. My friend even designed a site for me and with my Frontpage program I was able to edit with Microsoft Frontpage to keep updating the site. And now it's one of my best sites! So I would definately get Frontpage 2000 if your just starting out or again if your a professional web designer :)

Summary: For Inexperienced User's Only!
Review: Microsoft makes some great technologies for the web. But Frontpage is a product aimed for the home user that should not have any place in professional web development. Frontpage extensions(a server side technology that does things like process forms) doens't work well when it does work and can be a pain to administer. Frontpage writes much IE specific code and will automatically put in features that only Frontpage will support. Microsoft has some great server side technologies such as ASP,SQL Server, and IIS.....but for an editor don't use Frontpage, look into something more professional such as Dreamweaver.

Summary: Great for Newbies
Review: Frontpage is great if you live in a MS bubble. You need not any knowledge of programming or development. For true web beginners that never want to learn how the internet works this is your "pay dirt". What You See is What You Get (WYSIWYG), that's all folks. If you ever plan to learn real HTML, JavaScript, XML, DHTML, PHP, or if your wesite requires any kind of good database connectivity, forget MS Frontpage. If your into designing and developing dynamically generated websites or e-commerce enabled websites, look elsewhere. I would suggest taking a look at the free demo version of HomeSite 4.5 before you pad Mr. Gates pockets. What's with all the "vti" folders anyway, why can't they just use FTP like the rest of the world...

Summary: Blah
Review: Microsoft just needs to stop. I bought this for my office at the request of my employer. Before I discovered Dreamweaver. It churns out too much proprietary code. As a result, if you later go back to edit a page with another WYSIWYG editor, things go kaplooey. Spend the money on Macromedia's Dreamweaver.

Summary: Want to move up in your career? Learn FrontPage.
Review: A business teacher of mine recently hypothesized that Microsoft FrontPage will soon be required business software, just as Microsoft PowerPoint became required business software in the 90's. I couldn't agree more.

With FrontPage, 'creating web sites' has moved from some complex 'techie' thing to becoming a straightforward 'business' thing.

Think about how PowerPoint made overhead presentations something that anybody could do. Remember how everything used to be presented with overhead transparency slides on bulky projectors? People used to hire other people to create and print transparencies late at night.

Now, everything is presented using Powerpoint, and you can create that presentation yourself. (If you have worked in a corporation in the last few years, you know how ubiquitous PowerPoint has become)

Similarly, web sites are currently farmed out to 'experts' that can speak in code and who must be relied upon for those last minute web site changes. But soon, web sites will be the responsibility of the average corporate employee.

So, do you want to get a head start on your colleagues?

If so, get this easy-to-use program and learn how it works so that when your next job application says "FrontPage required" you'll be able to check that requirement off.

Feel free to email me with any questions.

Summary: Great for Beginning Web Designers
Review: Microsoft Front Page 2000 is great for anyone just beginning to design personal web pages. It is also practical for more advanced use as well, but I feel it is better suited for smaller website design projects. It is very easy to cut, paste, arrange, and redesign existing web pages with FrontPage. FrontPage will allow even the newest beginner to website design to put together exciting web pages without even knowing how to use HTML code, although a basic knowledge of the HTML language would be helpful and can be learned through trial and error use with FrontPage. (Note: For anyone looking for the most up to date version of FrontPage, FrontPage 2002 is due out from Microsoft later this year.)

Summary: Excellent product------ No doubt about it.
Review: Hi, Whoever says, Site designed with Frontpage will not show perfect in Netscape are not knowing FrontPage 2000 completely. Frontpage 2000 has settings for Browsers as well as servers. If you set these options, the you will not have single item on your site which will not show perfectly in Netscape. Front Page 2000 is a product for 90% of the peoples' requirement. Summary: One of Microsoft's best software packages and fun to use
Review: I tried several webpage packages (notably HotMetal Pro) and I have to say, FrontPage is by far the easiest, most intuitive and powerful software in its class.

In no time I had a webpage up and running. Maintaining it is easy, too. Setting up the navigation scheme is simple. There are nice art themes included, and they aren't hard to modify, either. So you can get an attractive webpage published very quickly with FrontPage.

It has some quirks. Netscape, forget it. And some of the free webpage hosting sites have trouble with FrontPage's web publishing protocol. This means you have to upload the pages one by one with FTP (file transfer protocol.) And you may not be able to some of the features of the themes like CSS. This doesn't bother me a lot, as it is really more a problem of the hosting site, not FrontPage.

The package also allows easy use of ActiveX controls, plug-ins, and Java applets, and normal scripting for fancy stuff on graphics-heavy webpages (careful, as these slow down loading time for many visitors. Know your audience.) If you are going to get heavily into scripts, ActiveX, plug-ins and more, including Flash, better to go into something like Dreamweaver, where you get more control over what goes into the HTML coding.

If you want more than a casual homepage as can be designed by such hosting providers as Geocities, this is definitely the package to use. It's fun, too. (When was the last time you could say that about a software package other than a game?)

Summary: Easy, but clunky.
Review: I have designed many websites over the past years with FrontPage 98/2000. The program is easy to use and fairly intuitive. Unfortunately, it has some MAJOR drawbacks: 1) FP2000 isn't Netscape compatible. What works beautifully in Explorer has the potential to look like a mess in Netscape. I don't know if that's Microsoft's way of snubbing Netscape...but it's a hassle. 2) The layout tables are 'stiff'. In a webpage you use tables to keep your content in place, and while FP has an easy to use table tool, it's very clunky. You can't place certain images in seperate cells because they 'offset' each other. Additionally, it is nearly impossable to customize a table to fit your text correctly...making the formatting of text a pain in the neck. 3) FP extensions are easily corrupted. For some reason the FrontPage extensions at my ISPs servers corrupt often, therefore I have to call them and get them reinstalled.

Other than those concerns FP is a wonderfully easy to use program. If you want a simple yet professional quickie website, this is the program to buy. Eventually you will want stronger tools and a more intuitive interface...When that day comes, just buy Macromedia Dreamweaver.
