Review: Performance on the MAC platform is SLOW and CLUNKY. This new version has nice improvements over the previous version but the performance issues make the workflow annoying rather than enjoyable. I would wait until Macromedia releases an upgrade for this version before getting it. Believe me I've been a Dreamweaver user for many versions now.

Summary: Very unstable, sudden quits, full of bugs...
Review: This has to be the worst version of Dreamweaver ever. Oh, it has it's good points -- WYSIWYG is much better looking and supports more CSS than before, and a few other nice features (but none are *amazing* features), but overall, be prepared for SLOW software that will frequently quit without warning. I can't tell you how many times a week I click that friggin' button to send the crash report to Apple. Could someone please kick in a few teeth at Macromedia and get them to release a bug-fix update? I was looking around the web and found this summary of some of Dreamweaver's bugs. This is only the tip of the iceberg, sadly. http://www.exuberance.com/notes/2003/dwmx2004.html I'm a web professional and I use Dreamweaver MX 2004 every day because I'm not going to shell out several hundred more dollars to try GoLive. But I run Dreamweaver with a bitter, bitter taste in my mouth, knowing that Macromedia has foisted a vastly sub-standard piece of software on us. I will relish the day when I can erase all Macromedia software from my Mac. Even better, I will relish the day when all my Macromedia software works as advertised and doesn't gouge my wallet.

Summary: An example of what the web can be.
Review: This is a note that I wrote after reading a number of reviews of the newest version of Dreamweaver, MX 2004. I am trying to choose an application for a site that I hope to build in the near future. I have read a lot of reviews on Amazon and on specialist forums about Dreamweaver, and realize that the newest version still needs to have some of the bugs stamped out of it. It is for this reason that I originally gave it only three stars. And I cannot attest to the correspondence between the trial version I have used, and the real version that seems to have caused a bit of consternation among more experienced users.
However, I was so impressed by what one of the reviewers has done with Dreamweaver, and how incredibly interesting the end product he has created is, that I changed the rating to four stars. I also felt I had to bring everybody's attention to the reviewer and his site. The reviewer is named Antonio Rubiera (I hope I spelled his name correctly)and his site is named in his review. It is one of the most interesting sites I have seen in a long time. He is to be congratulated for this work of art. I assume that Dreamweaver has to get some of the credit, too, so I think I will give it a try.

Summary: Terrible, terrible upgrade.
Review: This is more of a downgrade than an upgrade, on my Mac. I have a fairly new Mac, it's fast. It runs software like Adobe GoLive great! Panther is wonderful. Dreamweaver MX 2004 is awful. This program crashes more than any other program I've ever owned on my Mac. It's slow slow slow. There's some new features that are nice, but I can't believe I paid money for this dog. It's terrible. As bad as you read on here. Shame on you, Macromedia. You owe us a free upgrade for plunking down cash on this garbage!

Summary: Aaarrrggghhhhhh!!!!!
Review: To the guy who is wondering why he switched from Notepad to Dreamweaver MX 2004....Actually, Dreamweaver MX is very helpful, and you can include code that isn't "boxed", just type it into code view. But this version... - The built in FTP doesn't work on the Mac's or PC's at work.
- For some reason when I'm saving files they are not being overwritten unless I do a "save as".
- And yes, it crashes. Macromedia, WHAT WERE YOU THINKING!!!! I am so glad we bought this for work, and I did not purchase it for personal use. I would cry.

Review: Upgrade? What upgrade? The older versions were much better than this one. This new version runs very slowly, adds redundant and unneeded tags and crashes more often than Windows 98!
Please just don't buy this product, don't waste your money.

Summary: It looks pretty, but sooooooo slow!
Review: Yes, the new Dreamweaver indeed looks great... Unfortunately, that's where my praise for this product ends. I have used DW off-and-on since version 3, and used it hardcore since MX was released last year. When MX was released in 2002, I noticed a little bit of a performance slowdown, but nothing too cumbersome. Besides they added alot of new features in MX, so a little slowdown was to be expected. However, with MX 2004, only a handful of new features have been added, and these features are really more "convenience" features than blatant necessities. MM added this new tag parsing feature that automatically goes through the entire document and pulls a list of tag attributes each time you switch to a different tag. So, let's say you're at a TABLE tag, and then click on a IMG tag. The program will go through and make this list of attributes and CSS options. Decent idea, but it is SO SLOW!! I am very disappointed with how poorly this software functions. My computer is still fairly fast (1.3Gig, 512 RAM), and I am disappointed to see how ineffective this program is. Unlike going from V4 to MX, there is really no need to upgrade to MX 2004 if you already own MX. I downloaded the trial and considered purchasing the suite, but I don't think I will be making this purchase now. Unless you really need the latest and (not so) greatest tool, I would pass on this one and stick with the original MX version. FYI, Macromedia has gone the way of other vendors and requires you to register the product online with a unique serial code.
