Summary: I don't understand ...
Review: ... how the company that is #1 in corporate virus/security can make a product which is either: (1) too hard for the average to moderately skilled user to configure properly, or (2) crashes internet access and internet explorer with a combination of rather scary errors. After uninstalling McAfee Internet Security 4.0, all the errors went away.
I bought the program based on McAfee's reputation, and wrongly thought the other bad reviews were sour grapes, competitors, or incorrect installs/configurations. I was wrong.

Summary: MacAfee Does the Job
Review: After finding my computer logging on to the net for no reason, I started looking around for a security program. I have always liked the programs made by Symantec. I bought Norton Security. After installation of the program I spent all the time answering questions from the progam. This got old real quick. It slow by surfing down to a crawl. I thought it was frozen up a rime or two. I purchased MacAfee 4.0 and it works super !! Set it and forget it. Its not a resource hog either. I love it.

Summary: worst product I've ever seen
Review: how can this be a product considering competing companies such as norton and zonealarm?

Summary: Save yourself the headache... don't install this!
Review: I bought McAfee internet security so that I could combine three programs (zonealarm, windows washer, Norton Anti-Virus) into one - what a mistake! First of all, it glitched during installation on my XP computer. Once installed, it caused major problems with Internet Explorer and Explorer. In fact, until I told the firewall to filter nothing (no protection) I couldn't even log onto the web. Then, it caused my computer to no longer accept keyboard entry in explorer and internet explorer. Finally, I uninstalled the whole thing and problems were solved, although it did leave behind at least one startup file problem.

Also, the manual doesn't list any tech support phone, only web support. Once you get to the web (after installing the software!)it only gives you a 900 number for tech support - there is ZERO free support!

I really didn't want to give my money to Symantec (Norton), but their anti-virus program works flawlessly. Do yourself a favor and do not buy or install this product.

Summary: McAfee Internet Security 4
Review: I bought this as a replacement for Norton Internet Security-what a mistake. First, if you can get it running, it is far from user friendly. Too many screens, too many redundant features. Secondly on my PC (running WIN 98SE), the upgrade feature refused to work. The installshield refused to run. I had an IM session with cutomer support (a somewaht "creepy" experience), and did what they said, which was to delete the installshield folder on my PC and download a new version from MSFT which I did, and it did not solve the problem. So, I have run out of time to mess with this product anymore and am going back to Norton (which had its own issues) but at least ran well and allowed me to upgrade.

Summary: It's just not worth it.
Review: I can not recommend this product, it is nothing but trouble from the minute you take it of the box. It permanently locked up my machine using windows XP and was a total disaster when tried with windows 98. It is without doubt the most useless program I have ever seen. Total waste of money.

Summary: DO NOT BUY MCAFEE INTERNET SECURITY 4
Review: I concur with the other reviews. This product is horrible to install, fails to run successfully under Windows XP with more than one user, and McAfee tech support is worthless. Even after loading every patch available and reinstalling the product multiple times it is still not working properly. The folks at McAfee need to read these reviews and get their act togehter.

Summary: A very dissappointing product
Review: I recently signed up for ADSL service and decided I needed to install a reliable firewall/security program. I had used the McAfee anti-virus software and found it to be a good product, so I thought I could expect good performance from their internet security program. Not so, I'm afraid. Aside from being overpriced the product just does not work as advertised. The first attempt to install the program resulted in an unexplained lockup of my PC. After solving that problem, I finally got the software installed and went into the setup screens. I went through those as directed and ended up with no access to the internet. No browsers would work, the application I use to access my ISP over the ADSL line kept giving the message "server not available". I could not get the security settings in the firewall changed to allow any kind of internet access. I found a much better firewall program for free, and it was easy to setup and works great. This is an expensive program that caused me a lot of headaches. I have learned a valuable lesson: Don't equate price with performance.

Summary: "No Security" followup
Review: I wrote the previous "No Security" review. Wanted to add a real upsetting problem that I'd failed to mention. This software provides no indication that it's completed it's actions. There is no notification that what you asked it to do, is actually done. You have to guess when the operation is complete. This could be up to an hour to complete a "fast disc wipe"...several hours to complete a Dept Of Defense type wipe. You guess wrong, and you've screwed up the whole deal.....start over. This software is clearly created by folks who don't know how to write software. Flaws abound and abound. Irritating to any user, but scary in that it resets itself to defaults that allow maximum intrusion. Scratch your head and wonder how any PC Security company could use that as a default setting. Mindblowingly (...) design.
