Summary: Read this if your computers are networked
Review: I received this product with my new Compaq computer which is a Pentium 4, 1G Ram, running Windows XP. At home, I have a central server which all my computers are networked to access files and the DSL modem. After I installed Norton Internet Security 2002, none of my computer could access the files on the server or see each other. I called support, and the only way each computer could share files was to take off all the security settings. This defeats one of the purpose of the software- internet security. As for the virus scan, everytime I tried to retrieve a file on another computer, ie file server, my computer would freeze. I uninstalled the program and everything was fine.

Summary: Changes IP address and has system resource random trouble
Review: I had Norton Internet security and returned it after a week. It kept changing my IP address which kept me off of the internet. Kind of scary that it has a mind of it's own!

Symatec also aknowledges a problem with system resources - at times they get so low that our computer clock would even stop. We noticed mouse problems too. While Norton was working, our mouse wouldn't!

Our cable network provider says that there are many compatability issues with Norton antivirus and also said that their firewall protection is way over-rated! They recommended McAfee. I have since downloaded McAfee and have had no system failures and my surfing speed is now upto what I had expected for cable!

Summary: Excellent Protection
Review: Norton Internet Security 2002 is one of the best solutions for Internet protection available. Besides getting a top-notch virus checker, you also get a firewall, privacy setting and a parental control to block out sites from children.

The firewall is quite powerful. After installing, I went out to a web site which tests your firewall by trying to hack (without intention to damage) your PC. It passed with flying colors and none of the hacking methods made it through.

Sure, someday someone will find a way around but, but NIS also comes with LIVEUPDATE. This will download the latest updates for all aspects of NIS automatically or by your request.

This version works with all CURRENT Windows versions except 95 and earlier. If you are going to upgrade to XP, this is an excellent add on. A+.

Summary: NIS lets you sleep at night
Review: NIS is better than ever. It is much more automatic at creating firewall rules than the previous versions. Since I installed it, it has blocked a number of attacks. You would not believe how often cable modem-ed PCs are attacked! In addition, the ad-blocking and anti-virus features are a must.

Summary: Excellent protection from Symantec
Review: The best home Firewall software on the market. I've used Symantec products for 15 years plus, and this is but another of their fine packages. Be forwarned though, If you've already bought Norton AntiVirus 2002 or Norton SystemWorks 2002, you'll be getting a 2nd copy of Norton AntiVirus that is included in this package.
Symantec needs to forwarn folks about this.
As far as THIS title goes, however, I would highly recommend it. I've got a cable modem at home, and N. Internet Security has stopped EVERY hacker that attempted access to my system.
5 star software, folks!

Summary: Stopped 3 Hacker Attacks--Definately Recommend!!!!!
Review: If you are Cable modem user, you know that whenever you leave your computer on, it is prone to hacker attacks; that is, unless you have Norton Internet Security. This program is so wonderful, and it is easy to use. Before purchasing version 2002, I had version 1.0 and 2.5. They were wonderful--they worked like a charm. When I owned version 1.0, I did not even have a cable internet connection yet, and it protected me from hacker attacks (yes, through my 56k analog dialup connection!)---three times! Version 1.0 came with the parental control (in version 2.0, it was an option, as is with 2.5 and 3.0, but not 2002). I thought that, even though I would never really need it, it would be great because I would never accidentally run into porn sites. I give NIS five stars, and it has earned each and every one of them!

Summary: It happens...
Review: I finally learned about trojan horses the hard way after I got my cable modem. Internet Security 2001 was the only thing that has totally safeguarded my system. Symantec stays up on internet threats and this is a product 100% worth upgrading every year. Don't mess around, because $... is nothing compared to the woes of your computer suddenly failing. Plus, the upgrade is only $11 per year after you buy the full package.
This version also includes the world standard for virus protection and, hallelujah, ad blocking for those annoying pop-up ads that just about everyone has now. As my mother might say, this product "makes your internet happy".

Summary: WHAT A NIGHTMARE! CAUSED US TO REINSTALL EVERYTHING!
Review: Guess how I spent SuperBowl Sunday!? In complete H*LL dealing with Norton Internet Security (NIS)! It'll be a long time before I ever buy anything from Norton again. You name, it happened. Spiked CPU usage, no more internet connection, IMPOSSIBLE to uninstall, WORST TECH SUPPORT PHONE MENU SYSTEM I'VE EVER ENCOUNTERED, unqualified techs who gave up on us and yes, our only option now is to wipe the hard drive and start over. I'm a software engineer with 20 years of programming experience and am often asked by my friends for computer help. This is by far the worst experience I've had to deal with. Removing viruses and adware is easier than attempting to remove Norton Internet Security (NIS). I've wasted more time with NIS than I have with adware for the past 12 months! I'd rather leave my computer open to everyone on the net than try to install this software again. Okay, I'm done, but as you can tell, this software has caused us a lot of grief.

Summary: Better than average product. Non-existant support.
Review: Symantec's Norton Internet Security combines a firewall, anti-virus and ad blocking in a nice package. The LiveUpdate feature makes updates easy. However, Symantec will give you LITTLE to NO support even if you find a bug with their product. Good luck contacting them because they have hidden their phone numbers on their website to force you to solve problems yourself. The problem is that some problems are not solvable by anyone other than Symantec. For example, they have a bug that basically breaks ad blocking. Ad blocking does not work. I paid for this functionality and it is completely broken. They gave no way of reporting the problem and left us customers in the dust. There are other problems too that happen from time to time. The anti-virus software sometimes can't scan your e-mail. So, you won't be able to read your e-mail until they fix their software OR you take the risk of disabling antivirus and getting a potential e-mail virus. I urge everyone who owns this product to complain to Symantec about their complete lack of support. It's one thing if they want to filter out common user problems that waste their tech support staff's time but it's another issue entirely to leave your customers with no recourse.

Summary: Bloated, inflexible and unsupported
Review: I'm still testing Security 2002 on my XP Home addition so my opinion may change over time. I bought IS 2002 mainly for the parental control. I shouldn't have bothered. The control is entirely unacceptable. Yes, you can pick sites to block and applications but you cannot limit time on the internet or chats. It either blocks everything choosen all the time or not at all. So, if I want to restrict Jr.'s online use right after school, but allow access after his homework is done I have to go into configuration and reset everything each time. Both NetNanny and Cyber Sitter allow you to set access times. I've also heard that IS doesn't block access very well either. One thing I found curious is that one of the default blocked catagories of websites in the parental control is "Religious". I'm not sure what the rational is behind that, but don't we want children to learn about religions?
The instructions are vague and incomplete. Most of what IS does can be done by various freeware available on the net.
