Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Excellent Security Resource
Review: I have long been a McAfee advocate, often shunning Norton because it once interfered with the sound on my machine - but Internet Security 2002 has made me a believer. I bought the download and within 20 minutes, I was installing it on my machine. The set-up was step-by-step and very comprehensive - although for those who don't know a lot about what sort of preferences to set up on a firewall, I suggest getting some reference material. The firewall is incredibly detailed, allowing me to totally configure my machine to work within my home network while preventing outsiders from getting in. The Symantec site also has a place to check the security of your system and tells you how to fix your vulnerabilities. I had a copy of McAfee firewall/virus scan and am currently throwing it out - Norton Internet Security is a MUCH better tool - even the user interface is very friendly and useful.

Summary: Don't buy this unless you really like troubles
Review: Installed it. It installed easily and completely configured itself. Tested it from symantec and grc.com web sites. It performed flawlessly. The system was completely invisible... Until the next morning.
The next morning, the firewall was shut down and could not be restarted. ALL options in the entire system were disabled. The message on screen states it is NOT protecting the system. I was locked out because I was not a 'supervisor'.I attempted to uninstall it but was not allowed to do so. I downloaded the uninstall program from symantec and uninstalled then reinstalled it. I was very careful this time to create three administrator accounts.
It lasted about 12 hours then shut down again. I could not restart it. None of the supervisor accounts I created were accessable. I repeated this episode three more times. The only phone number available on the web site was the number to request a refund. I did. They didn't even ask why. There was NO help availble on the web site. I could have paid 29.95 for a phone call but didn't want to pay 30 bucks for them to tell me how to install a 70 buck program.

Summary: Don't upgrade to IE 6 and expect to use this product
Review: I installed this product when I was running IE 5.5 and it istalled fine, but I kept running into the problem that after a few months of use, it would take all the system resources to 100%, forcing me uninstall to re-install it. This happened for the second time recently, and in the meantime I had installed IE 6, and now it doesn't install properly. As the others that gave it 1 star said, the Cust. Serv. line is virtually useless as is their web support page. I have looked at their FAQ's and still haven't had a resolution to the problem. Their answer was to wait for the upgrade that is supposed to be automatic, but even that isn't working now. So I'm stuck, and my 50 bucks is wasted.

Summary: Works Flawlessly - Professional Security
Review: Two caveats. Read the user manual and follow the instructions to the letter. If you do, it will take several hours to set this program up, but once it is set up properly, WOW! Every feature works as advertised, and there are tons of features. Symantec even has a web site that will test your system for vulnerabilities and then guide you through various means to remedy the situation. I must stress, to get every feature working properly, you MUST spend several hours going through custom setup options. Before I got this program, my computer kept trying to access the Internet even when I did not have any Internet applications running. Now I can monitor that activity and control the number of applications that can access the Net. I never realized that there were more than 80 Internet applications on my computer, and some of them had no business being there. Parental controls blocked everything I could throw at it. And Antivirus not only protects my system, but protects others from unintentionally receiving virus infected e-mails FROM me. You simply get an amazing number of applications in one package, if you are willing to put the time and effort into setting it up properly. Happy Surfing.

Summary: bad deal
Review: I agree with the other one star reviews. I have been trying to update the last verison for weeks. I called customer service and was put on hold for 45 minets then a short session with an incompetant tech. then try something they suggest then call back on hold 1 hour 10 minets. On and on untill I wasted 8 hours trying to fix problem with update. Finally told that they would send new program. Three weeks later I am still waiting. No virus protection. Dont buy this program. It never found a virus. I dont think it did anything but interupt me whenever I tried to go to a new site telling me that the computer was trying to contact the web site. Well da. These people have made their web site purposely difficult to maneuver.

Summary: Doesn't work as advertised.
Review: This software is junk, and in six months of use has never worked as advertised. The anti-virus and firewall protection are marginally acceptable, but the ad trashcan function has never worked and the parental control function fails to load at least half of the time. Unacceptable performance when the primary reason for buying the software was to protect children from inappropriate content. The only thing worse than the software is the technical support. Don't even think about talking to a real person unless you want to pay them even more money, and their web-based support is even more difficult to get to work than the software.

Summary: Norton Internet Security... The Best from the Leaders!
Review: When protecting yourself on the internet, you don't want to take any chances. Viruses and hackers roam the internet looking for unsuspecting and unprotected computers to exploit, usually for bad purposes. The sad truth is that most individuals are vulnerable.

Internet Security holds the keys and locks your computer from the outside world. It includes powerful cookie controls, and privacy controls. Did you know that websites sometimes request your private information and your browser often gives it to them? How many people know your address now? Cookies are everywhere even in some HTML emails, this program will allow you to block them permanently.

Internet Security also includes an excellent firewall program to help keep unauthorized users off your computer, and a parental control tool to help you decide what you do and do not want to see. There is a lot of trash on the internet these days, and parental control helps all of us filter out that junk!

Included with this suite is Norton AntiVirus 2002, to help protect your computer from viruses and trojans. This program scans everything including your incoming and outgoing email to help protect you and your computer. Everything stays up to date for a year with the use of LiveUpdate.

This program is completely customizable, easy to install and configure, and the best that you can buy! Don't waste time waiting for your computer to be attacked, protect yourself now!

Summary: Does a great job keeping my data safe
Review: Internet Security does everything you could possibly need (all of it in the background)to keep your data safe. My only complaints are the irritating messages that pop up on the screen when my outbound mail is scanned for viruses (the message blocks whatever I am doing for about 5 seconds, interrupting my work) and the lack of detail on attacks on my computer.

If you don't own any firewall or anti-virus protection, get something. This product works great and is XP compatible. I especially like being able to enter "private" data such as my e-mail address or SSN. IS will let you know if a web site you are visiting is actually getting this data from your computer. I discovered that DELL Computer was getting my e-mail address from my computer without permission when I visited their site.

I feel very comfortable leaving my computer connected to the internet 24/7 with this application running.

Summary: BEWARE!
Review: This program is highly rated by experts. When it works, it works well. Unfortunately, it only works about 50% of the time. When it fails, it lets EVERYTHING through.

Symantec acknowledges that this occurs but, has no solution. Read this quote, concerning the program's inability to function 100% of the time, from Symantec's technical support group: "This is an issue that has been reported to Symantec. We are looking
into it and have no solution at this time."

Summary: Doesnt get much better than Nortons
Review: Ive been using Nortons over the last few years and have been impressed with the fact that its very easy to use, Doenst cost Additional to have live updates, and offers consistant protection from viruses.
I have been attacked by viruses at about 3 a month on average. Not one has got by. Of course, you need to keep using live update mon-fri (there are no updates sat and sun,..the guys have to rest sometime!) But, you can set it up to do it in the backround automatically. They really have impressed me over the competition.
