Rating: Summary: A terrible disappointment Review: For years, I've used nothing but Norton anti-virus products, and have always found them to be far superior to the competition. Those days are over, thanks to my episodes with Norton Anti-Virus 2004. I've had nothing but problems in attempting to install it - ironically, the anti-virus software caused my system repeated crashes, only in the installation process. That should have been the sign to give up then. I attempted to solve the problem on-line, but the support section at their website is useless. After plunking down another $30 to talk to someone at tech support, I finally got it working (after some extensive), only to find that the program then slowed the speed of my computer down to a crawl. This produce was a waste of money and I will now switch to McAfee products.
Rating: Summary: Not Impressed Review: Like most people I like to have the latest and greatest. I went out and bought Norton Antivirus 2004 and had some problems installing it. Once installed it was hogging alot of system resources. My computer slowed down drastically and my uploads & downloads were slowed down. It seems to be too much in controll of my computer. I tried it on another PC to make sure and same results. I went back to 2003 after having to delete some registry settings as uninstall does not clean up very well. I will never buy a Antivirus product from Norton again and McAfee is looking good right now. Unfortunately I cannot get my money back.
Rating: Summary: Still the best Review: I had some trouble after installing NAV 2004, with the auto-protect option. but got it solved through their online tech-support even though it stinks that I can't just call Symantec without being charged an arm and a leg just to get some help. Anyway it's running fine now and is great at blocking viruses and spyware.
Rating: Summary: Huge resource hog, many viruses unable to delete Review: I have a 2.4Ghz, 512ram computer with Windows XP. Once I installed Norton, everything on my computer was extremely sluggish. Once I uninstalled it, everything was normal again. I had kept it installed for some time though and AutoProtect was effective and detecting and blocking viruses or potential viruses from entering the computer. That's the only reason why I gave it 2 stars instead of one. I used LiveUpdate routinely and still, many viruses Norton could not delete or fix. Stay away from this program.
Rating: Summary: Delighted Review: I've had Norton SystemWorks and Personal Firewall 2004 on my home PC for the past 3 weeks. I am delighted with it. Anti-virus and the Personal Firewall continue to work 100% as they have on previous versions. The new Anti-Spam works well; and the new Password Manager is a gem; it's auto complete feature saves time and; so far, has worked flawlessly.I questioned whether or not to update after reading previous reviews. Glad that I did.
Rating: Summary: Problems Review: I've had serious problems with Norton products and customer service is of little assistance.
Rating: Summary: Slow Performance Review: After installing Norton Anti Virus 2004, I immdediately noticed how much my system had slowed down.Prior to the installation my system ran very fast. So I uninstalled Norton and my system speed returned. I sent the product back for a refund of my money.
Rating: Summary: Follow the directions! Review: Uh hello, people follow the directions! It isn't an upgrade because it's not supposed to be! No one upgrades from 2002 to 2004. Who does that? Get rid of the old version and install the 2004 version. It works just fine for me. If you follow the instructions and do what it says then it works just fine. Of course your computer system has to be ready to handle the software so duh! check the system requirements. Its really not that hard. This works better than McAfee.
Rating: Summary: Has anyone else ever noticed... Review: ...that all the five-star reviews to date have the exact same writing style, and are written in the exact same way a corporate press release would be written? Hmm.
Rating: Summary: Doesn't load; Charges $30 for technical assistance Review: I just bought Norton Antivirus 2004 for a new computer with Windows XP. The product will not load. When the licensing window comes up, it cannot be read in its entirety. There is no "accept" or "decline" checkbox. Your choices are "cancel" and "back." Symantec now charges $30 for technical assistance per incident -- nearly the cost of the software -- so I opted to exchange it for McAfee, which loaded easily.
