Summary: This Suite is barely ok!
Review: I just purchased SystemSuite 5 after using SS4 for the last couple years. Besides the new color, I have seen nothing that was improved. All the Utility tests are the same as SS4. The firewall is beyond slow on loading up and appears less in quality than ZoneAlarms free firewall. The anti-virus appears the same as SS4 and still misses virus's. Had a few basic problems, but Tech support assisted via email. Web page support appears useless with a max. of 20 answers for SS5. I was going to see how Norton SystemWorks 2004 rates to see if this 1 goes.

Summary: Good, but can still use some help.
Review: I use both systemsuite AND norton systemworks 2003 to fix pc problems.
As I mentioned in a review about systemsuite 4, this product does some stuff norton systemworks doesn't, and vice versa.

The pro's:
- good registry fixer
- good setup of multiple drive defrag at 1 time.

cons:
Any sort of disk problem and the defragger utility dies !
Tells you to run CHKDSK /F to fix the drive error.

Norton systemworks.
Pro's: disk doctor fixes things on drives just as well as
CHKDSK /f does.

Cons: you have to schedule each drive for a defrag via the schedule utility.

Systemsuite 5.0 :

Pro: - good virus scanner
- good firewall

Summary: Buy This At Your Own Risk
Review: I've been a fan of SystemSuite for years, and always bragged about how good these programs were. That is, until I upgraded from SS4 to SS5. Apparently, there is a fatal conflict between this and AOL 9.0 (and 8.0), and V-Com seems quite unconcerned about the whole thing. Think you'll never see a blue screen with Windows XP? Try this out! Tech support was a joke. No phone support available, resulting in an endless series of frustrating e-mails. The worse thing is that uninstalling SS5 doesn't solve the problem--obviously the installation made some permanent change to the Windows XP system files (a sure sign of sloppy programing). So, now I'm reinstalling Windows. Thanks V-Com. Really swell customer support, too. If you're an AOL user, you'll regret buying this. Oh, and don't expect to see any mention of this in the V-Com Tech Support "Knowledge Base" - that might affect sales. Oh, and one last straw: V-Com has stopped providing support or update files for earlier versions of the software that were actually good.

Summary: Highly recommended
Review: I've been using Fix-it utilities since ver. 3 and have always enjoyed the product and have never had a problem. I evaluated the Norton Internet suite and I got upset when I found out I had to purchase a subscription to it. My Fix-it utilities anti-virus software from year 2000 still receives updates free of charge. I run WinXP and I haven't had any problems with the firewall software. All the software included in this suite is high quality and best of all; no subscriptions, no activation, and software that does it's job. This product didn't win PC magazine's choice 2002, 2003 for nothing, it certainly won my choice.

Summary: I Know What I'm Talking About
Review: I've read all the reviews for this, and I have come to the conclusion that some people are either clueless or have some seriously screwed up systems. I have used Norton Systemworks and System Mechanic Pro(w/Panda Plantinum)and both either caused problems with my system(XP Pro), did not function correctly (Panda),or did not install or uninstall correctly(Norton's especially difficult). Systemsuite has been excellent! I have installed and uninstalled it several times without ever having any problems, the antivirus updates frequently, usually no longer than 2-3 days (Mcaffee and Norton usually update only once a week)and all the utilities work perfectly. The program comes with several extra utilities (Ghost Surf, PowerDesk, Recovery Commander, and MailWash) but you DON"T HAVE TO install these if you do not want to. You also can choose to install either the antivirus or firewall, both, or neither, and the utilities work with other firewalls and antivirus programs if you already have other favorites.(Just remember to have ONLY 1 antivirus and 1 firewall running, whatever you choose!)As I said, I don't know why some people had such problems with this, but after using several similar products, I feel this is the best currently available.

Summary: Don't Bother. Cheap for a Reason!
Review: If you are using Windows xp keep in mind, Windows xp has it's own built in, though one way, firewall. Before installing a software product that contains a firewall, such as SystemSuite, you must first disable Windows xp's firewall. Failure to disable Windows xp's firewall can result in the inablilty to access the internet. This is due to conflicts resulting from having two firewalls running on your system at the same time. That said, SystemSuite remains a great value and provides features for Windows 2000 and Windows xp that Norton SystemWorks provides only for Windows 98 and ME. Norton was once my hands down favorite, but now I think SystemSuite has the overall edge when you consider features and price. SystemSuite is the most well organized Utilities suite I have tried and I have not found a real 'dud' in any of it's features. Norton has a great Anti-Virus and Firewall, but Norton's Utilities need to be updated to keep up with the competition.

Summary: If everything worked it would be fantastic
Review: Maybe I expect too much. Having used Fix It utilities 3, system suite 2000 and system suite 4 I was ready for system suite 5 to rock. Alas, this is not the case.

This suite has always been a little flaky and many of the problems continue from one version to the other. For instance the FIREWALL refuses to work under Windows XP, and will not allow me to connect to the internet via my cable modem. (I even did a virgin WinXP install on a brand new hard drive, the firewall in SS5 is BROKEN, blocking all internet access!) The uninstall and transport utilities exit without warning about halfway through a drive scan. There are too many other little glitches to mention them all, but frankly I feel a bit scammed with this upgrade. It did not fix some long standing bugs, it introduced some new bugs. V-COM is the third "owner" of this software and I honestly believe V-COM did nothing but make a new release to squeeze a few dollars out of the current user base while denying support to current owners. I was one of those that got suckered and I am not pleased.

For example, SS5 comes with a program called Power Desk. I had purchased Power Desk *Pro* some time ago, I allowed SS5 to do a full installation and it OVERWROTE my $39 Power Desk Pro program with Power Desk, a much more limited program. I purchased Power Desk Pro via download some time ago and no longer have the original file, but I *do* have my serial number. Too bad for me that SS5 destroyed my Power Desk Pro, because my serial number is not good enough for V-Com to allow me to download it again. In other words, screw the old users, milk the new ones. The program has not changed in over two years. Does V-COM expect me to buy it again?

What a shame.

Not a single bug fix has been released since SS5 reared its ugly head. Not a good sign in my opinion.

Summary: Very Dissapointed
Review: This product is not worth the money. They offer a too many what appear to be beta version of utilities. They are slow, system hogs and even outdate. I will not buy from this company again.
